What do we think? Unrestricted free agent who's had 2 top 5 B&F finishes at Cartank.

Over 100 games experience and is in their leadership group.

Has the ability to play on smalls and mid sized forwards.

If Bartram can't come back from his injury he'd be a like for like replacement with slightly better kicking and provides more run.

Will also be useful if Rivers were to walk. I'd take him personally.

Told Carlscum that he will be exploring free agency. Would he fit in well at the dees? he is only 25 with his best footy ahead of him I would imagine.

I dont know much else about him apart from that he is played off the half back.

Anyone else got anything to add?

No doubt will be named an absolute spud

Looked good there a year or two back, but went backwards for whatever reason otherwise I guess he would still be at Carlton. I wouldn't really be in too good a position to comment on him specifically, does anyone know if he is a decent kick?

If Sydney can grab spuds and make them stars, so can we!!!

The great part of free agency is we don't have to give up a draft pick for them, we only lost a spot in our playing list.

Agree. Jordan Russell has good kicking skills and I can see him playing a midfield type role as well. Maybe a wing oir half back. We could do with a "quarter back" type.

In fact, if anyone wants to come to MFC, I would welcome them at the moment. WE seem to be slipping into the abyss.

Absolutely. Like you said, with Bartram's career up in the air we could really use him. Right age and doesn't seem like a lazy player. Could do a lot worse

I'm all for russell I think he has a great upside would easily fit into our best 22 off the half bank flank with superb kicking skills. Not the hardest bloke getting around but smart. I'd be very happy with him over most other FA's to be honest and think he will be sort after!

I must confess my eyes lifted a bit when I saw that he was avail. Was a bit of a gun then fell out of favour. I wonder why . Thats probably the crux.

Might just be the kind of player Neeld might savour. If Riv was departing then Russell could fit in well. Wouldnt even have to change initilals !!

Go get him if we can.

yeah - looks good at first glance. by why wouldn't the blues have played him if he was a good defender and more importantly a good kick. the blues ended up shifting quite a bit of their firepower down back (gibbs, yarran etc) because of a lack of foot skills coming out of the backline.

if he was fully fit, a good defender and good by foot why would they not play him?

otherwise i agree, i think he would be a good addition.

They didn't play Shaun Grigg and he has made a resonable impact at Richmond.

We should expect that we are at least talking to his manager.

A very good question to which I don't have the answer.

All I can say is that I know I've seen him play good solid footy in the past and sometimes some players fall out of favour for no real reason. Look at Grigg at Carlton.

I trust the FD to make the right call.

Get him.

We need drive coming out of the backline, which is now top heavy. He provides a bit of pace and decent kicking skills. He's out of favor at Carlton because the two back flank rebounding roles belong to Yarran and Gibbs, Both are more talented and are persisted with despite inconsistent form. He's been in and out of the team due to that team balance. I think he'd be a good fit on a half back flank for us. We need some smaller defenders as we have too many talls down there. With Grimes moving into the midfield and Bartram injured and a ? on his return at this point, We are relying on Nicholson and Strauss down there. To add a 100+ gamer who's a proven small/medium size defender with decent pace, skills and ball winning ability can only be a big plus. We need senior experienced players. He fits the bill of what we need. I say we chase him.

the one thing I've never liked about him was his decision making..............for this reason i would pass.

If we were to recruit him as cover for Batram I'd argue his decision making is better then Barters making it an upgrade!

slight upgrade! Joel Mac part 2.

If it keeps Strauss and / or Macdonald out of the team, that is more than enough reason to get him.

This.

Can't say I've seen much of him play, but from what I'm reading he'd fit right in with what we need. We've got plenty of key backs, but no smaller running backman, and we rely on Chip for our run out of the back half. From the sounds of it on the Carlton board at Bigfooty, he's a confidence player, and some injuries the last couple of seasons have dented that confidence. They were confident he'd be able to contribute at another club. 2nd in the Blues BnF two years ago, lets hope that club is us.

With so many of the usual suspects gone or soon to go, Russell would fit in nicely as the Demonland whipping boy.

Get him!

I actually don't mind Joel Mac but Russell is much better.

Not the most inspiring comparison from a stats perspective with Joel Macdonald.

Yes, I know it doesn't mention efficiencies or top 5 best and fairest placings!
