  1. BD - if you are referring to Fitzy, watch his set shots, and the way he disposes of the ball. He has great mobility for a big guy and his attitude is terrific and he is getting better and better at using his body, but his kicking is sub standard - snaps or no snaps. This is no great secret - even the recruiters / and commentators made note of this when he was playing in the State Carnivals. I like him, and think he'll be a goer - but i don't think he should be our first choice to place in the key post of CHF.
  2. Not that he'd be the only one i'd cull - but for me we should be looking to move Dunn on. He tries hard, but i don't think he's one of the smarter players on the list / in the comp. Despite having a good long kick, he turns the ball over more than most, and his decision making skills are often less than great. In his defence he's been played in so many roles, by so many coaches, in the forward line (as a KPP and as a flanker) , midfield (run with roles) and down in defence, but he's never really made it in any of those roles has he? A few good games here, a few good games there, but he is constantly in and out of the team, and i cant remember any consistent seasons. or if he has, then he has not gone on with it. The most damming thing i think will be that he has been on the list now for quite some time - 7 yrs or so and hasn't established him self as a player, let alone a senior player. And i think he knows it. He's not the only type of player to fall into that category in fairness, but now has to be the time to move him on, even if we are bereft of players with experience, and try and attract players with similar levels of experience but who are more capable and consistent - if we have to spend a little $ so be it. he's had he's go - and he's not up to it sadly.
  3. Yeah, good to see them out having a run, but i think Dunn's time is up and we should move him on. Dunn tries hard, but i don't think he's one of the smarter players on the list / in the comp. Jetta has had less time on the list and been injured a lot - but i much prefer him to bennell. deserves another season to get fit and see what happens during the year but if he doesn't deliver then it could be time to move him on.
  4. Neeld said today that Davey is a required player. Denied talk that he would be traded. So i suppose i cant see melb agreeing to that. Unless of course Aaron wants to go and is keeping his cards close to his chest. like the idea though - maybe another player... got the feeling though that gumby will stay at the bombers for one more season given the amount of faith shown in him by the bombers/Hird. They love him. and i think he feels he owes them. if it doesn't work out after another year i'd reckon he'd be on his way to freo for more $, more years and more importantly a chance to play finals footy. (assuming freo dont do their budget signing other players) he just turned 24 so another year at the bombers (failed or not) wont hurt him. having said that i reckon he is worth a punt and we should we tabling an offer.
  5. cardies, designer flannys and non perscription glasses all round!!!
  6. do the bombers need inside mids, or outside? or both? i read somewhere that they have plenty of young mids but none of them have really come on. otherwise i reckon that would be a worth a go if the bombers would take it.
  7. Yeah, sellar does seem like a confidence player, but i dont know if he's the answer at CHF. He's seems to have poor hands when under pressure, and could learn to position himself better/ use his body better in contested situations - particulary when playing forward. He seems to look more comfortable playing down back...maybe he'll be the negating type player if we have to play teams with multiple monster forwards.... watching him play he tends to do well in the first stage of a piece of play and then fumble the next when under pressure, so yeah, im guessing thats an confidence thing that will improve once he gets a few more games under his belt. i think for a confidence player like sellar - in and out of the team sometimes CHF, sometimes CHB its going to be tough for him. Fitzy is improving and seems to be a real trier but not sure if he's a natural CHF (he looks a bit awkward at times). In fairness - i know you suggested these guys as stop gaps until hogan or some other player comes along, but looking at the other CHF's forwards in the comp, i dont know if these guys are really the answer. My opinion is they are at this stage both going to be good depth players, I hope im wrong, but thats my feeling. The young guys from GC Dixon and in particular Lynch (cant believe we missed out on him by one lousy pic) look terrific, but i don't know if we are a chance to get hold of either. If tippet does go to GC - maybe we are a chance for Dixon (i dont know his current status in fairness - wether he has resigned or not) given that they'll have Dixon, Lynch, Day as understudy's to Tippett. I suppose a lot will depend on who they want to play in the ruck, now that frazer is gone. for a moment i thought maybe martin may be a trade option to ruck up there - but i dont think that they would let lynch or dixon go for martin. anyway those are my thoughts...
  8. he does... especially when you consider that he's waiting behind tippett and walker and the form that they are in. as discussed, a lot depends on what tippett does. the word on the street is that the more success the crows have the more he is being swayed to stay - which of course is perfectly understandable given how may young stars they have on their list. Anyway - McKernan has been there since 2009 so you reckon Neil Craig would be in a decent position do decide if he he's worth chasing or not.
  9. Got some footage here. Looks like a good mark! and he looks ok kicking for goal. obviously this isn't much to go on though. At least Neil Craig would have seen a fair bit of him so he'd be able to make a decent decision on him you would have thought... the only question is if the dees want him, would the crows let him go (assuming Tippett stays with the crows) anyone know anything about this?
  10. Has anyone seen Shaun McKernan Play? Cant seem to find much info on this bloke. Everybody seems to really rate him here on this post - on that basis he sounds interesting. What are the chances that Tippett will be leaving adelaide? Do we have anything we can offer Adelaide to get McKernan if Tippett stays? draft pic maybe? No shame in being the out the team with Tippett and Walker on fire this year... Agree that i don't think we are a chance to get Tippett.
  11. ha ha - i thought that would be the case!!! having said that everyone has dominated us this year, except the expansion clubs!!! if we keep on going like we have this year then they will be putting the boot into us too!!!
  12. Yeah i agree with redleg. We have Clark who is now our main KPF (who can play relief ruck), Fitz, Spencer, martin not to mention Jamar as our no 1 ruck, im not sure if another ruck who can play forward is the answer we need. especially as he is a young draftee. i think we need someone who is a specialist CHF. Having said that i do like the look of grundy but just not sure he's the first place we should be looking when we need an established or semi established CHF. Not that i think its a priority for them, but i reckon they'll also be taking into consideration someone who'll be putting bumbs on seats to create a little bit of buzz given the disastrous year we have had.
  13. beautiful - keep it coming... the common denominator seems to be taking a risk with Gumby and to continue developing fitzy. sounds a bout right i reckon
  14. the stuff i've heard is he just wants to go home, and the suns /bris arent offering that much more. i know he's a decent player, but i haven't really seen him play a good game at the G (mind you i didn't see the last Dees v Crows game at the G - he probably kicked 6...)
  15. Yeah its border line, and it is a tough one. Darling is obviously a freakish talent, and he's a small for a KPP, but the eagles have a diff forward structure where Darling is essentially the 3rd tall, because you often have Cox and nic nat rotating through there (playing as forwards), which the Eagles can get away with because they are so mobile and so strong overhead (aside from the fact they are both freaks!). Im not an expert on Leigh - ive seen a little of him, but i suppose i was thinking of someone ready made to hold down the CHF. Perhaps with Leigh as a 3rd tall or as a development sort of player until he finds he's feet a bit?
  16. Note sure if Leigh is big enough to hold down the CHF position. Do admire Fitzy's dash and attitude and i thought that neeld warmed to him toward the end of the year, but not sure if he's a natural footy player. he looks pretty awkward. he's kicking isn't great, but he is pretty quick for a big man. not convinced hes a long term solution at CHF, but maybe a depth player. Tarrant does sound interesting to me but dont know a lot about him, except seeing him play in a few games and that north people generally have good things to say about him- if anyone does have some info or an opinion please, share your thoughts. My hopes of getting Q Lynch have faded. Gumby does look good, but would be a fair risk with his back ailments i would have thought, and any trade there will depend on so many other choices, that the bombers/St Kilda/freo make. any other team likely to play finals that needs a KPF would be in a better position than us though i would have thought. You're right, there isn't much of a diff b/w dawes and martin (at least i dont think either of them have footy brains) but martin seems more of 2nd ruckman and Dawes seems more of CHF. could be a trade option, but to be honest i'm not keen on it.
  17. Don't know much about him - looks promising, but don't know if a first year kid is ready to hold down the CHF position.
  18. We need a CHF so its just a discussion. Lynch isn't geting enough game time with Kennedy and Darling (he is in the team this week though). by all reports he wants a 2 yr deal and the eagles are only offering 1. at 29 and a free agent he is entitled to look elsewhere. the word on the street is it will be the pies or blues, depending on what cloke does.
  19. yeah dont mind azza when he's on - he can be exciting, but he has big tendency to go missing and not sure he really fits the bill for a CHF at 184cm 92 kg. we also have howe who is high leaping and 190cm. I think we need a bigger body to crash and bash, so at least if we don't grab it the footy we are bringing the crumbers into play.
  20. Hi all, A new thread to discuss key position forwards. I know we have talked about them a lot in several other threads re general draft/trade prospects, but I thought we might try a new one just for the KKP. Would love to know your thoughts/or if you have any imput. .......................................................... Q Lynch - I was keen on Lynch, but it looks like if he goes anywhere it will be to the Blues or Pies according to recent media. Seems to make sense given he wants a 2 year deal and depending on what happens with Cloke both clubs can afford him. 29 yrs old - Carlton first in queue for West Coast free agent Quinten Lynch T Cloke - probably staying at the Pies or if can't come to an agreement - probably going to the Blues. Neeld has also said not interested. T West - might be able to do a deal with Gysberts and or some draft picks to Geelong. Cats are a little light on ruck stocks though so I don't know if he's a real option, or if he is more than a ruck than a CHF. Don't know much about this one except some people on here like the look of him. 24/25 and a premiership player. S Gumbleton - Essendon has an abundance of tall timber in the forward line and with J Danniher coming into their forward they are short on mids. The Bombers want Caddy from GC - so maybe the Dees are in a position to do some sort of a deal to ensure the bombers get what they want. By all reports Hird wants to hang on to him given his talent and the amount of effort they have put into him, but the Bombers are an overwhelming team and the need for good mids may outweigh the desire to hang on to Gumby. Apparently Freo are into him if they can't land another KKP so there is a big chance he might go to Freo (he's a WA boy as well). On that note, a lot will depend if Freo can get Goddard (re salary cap wise - maybe they cant afford both). Obviously the big drawback with Gumby is his dodgy back, his kicking for goal can also be iffy at times (in particular his ball drop), but its still ok. He is great in the air though with a strong mark (when he is actually on the park). 24/25 yrs old C Dawes - Premiership CHF and had a good few seasons, but last 2 seasons have not been great. looks to have lost all confidence and i don't think he looks like a natural footballer. Trade deal may have some currency with the Pies keen on Martin. 24/25 yrs old Norths KPP's - The only other thing i can think of is maybe having a look at north's KPP players as i know they have an abundance of them but don't really know anything about them. They have two good Ruckmen Goldstein and McIntosh (injured i think) and Petrie at their main KPF (a fair gun & senior player, so we are no chance to get him) but they have two other KPP Hansen and Tarrant. Don't know alot about Hansen or Tarrant but people at North I know rate them as good developing KPP's. if anyone knows anything about these two. Both early to mid 20's I think. Jack Watts - don't laugh, its a possibility. If he fills out a bit more and puts on a few kgs on his frame and keeps his growing in confidence, he might feel a bit more comfortable in the contest. Second efforts need to improve. Obviously a lot of big if's with this one, and where Neeld decides to play him, but its still an option. Look forward to your thoughts and any other ideas Cheers.
  21. agreed. seen him play a few games and he played well - has a lovely kick, but to be honest don't know a heck a of a lot about him - just hope the recruiting dept do their due diligence on him thoroughly.
  22. yeah - looks good at first glance. by why wouldn't the blues have played him if he was a good defender and more importantly a good kick. the blues ended up shifting quite a bit of their firepower down back (gibbs, yarran etc) because of a lack of foot skills coming out of the backline. if he was fully fit, a good defender and good by foot why would they not play him? otherwise i agree, i think he would be a good addition.
