Scully finishes 4th in Sheedy Medal

yea i was thinking the same thing when i read it, they are obviously trying to make themselves feel better

Fixing the votes to justify the pay packet, has done SFA this year, we would have read about it otherwise.

That's comedy!!!!

Had no impact on any GWS game I saw this year!

Justifies our draft compensation though.

Not if you're a Bulldogs supporter..........Callan Ward won!

In slightly unrelated news, the other player we lost during last year's trade period (Matthew Warnock) has been nominated for the AFL's MVP award (every club has to nominate their three best players): http://www.aflpa.com.au/news/post/afl_players_announce_2012_mvp_nominees

Having not seen too many GC or GWS games, I'm probably in no position to comment. But it looks as though Warnock has been of more value to the Suns than Scully has been to the Giants.

he came about 15o something in the herald sun super player points thing. Still wearing Melbourne jumper as mark of respect.

"Tom's fourth placing was the result of an anomaly caused as a result of the use of a system of weighting the judges' votes," said Giants' CEO David Matthews after the count.

He also refused to confirm or deny that the club's assistant director of recruiting based in Melbourne, Mr. Phil Scully was on the judging panel or that he devised the weighting system itself.

Heavy stuff indeed!

Do they really have to insist on typing GIANTS in capitals every time in this story? Dont tell me they do it all throughout their website (no I'm not going to look) as some kind of ironical branding. UGH.

Was obviously part of the signing. 'Must finish in the top 4 at the B& F

Their lack of credibility just got even bigger...

Pretty much every article I've read involving GWS and Gold Coast have had their moniker's spelt in capitals... no idea why and it's absolutely annoying to read.

Interesting to see the SC player ratings across the league. Grimes is our best at 41.

That's hilarious. He was a tick above rubbish in every Giants game I saw bar one.

It's bollocks, he was useless this year, they are only trying to justify how much there paying him, they know he's a dud but don't want to admit it.

Curious how Scully beat Giles? Giles has had an excellent year for a one out rookie ruckman.

Though looking at the 6-10 positions, they all had crap years so I would could only argue about one place; we are talking about the bottom team here.

In light of Scully's stellar performance at his new club, I propose that the AFL retroactively compensate Melbourne by awarding them an additional first round pick. I'm sure you'll agree this is more than fair.

WARD WINS INAUGURAL SHEEDY MEDAL

What a joke!

I can think if about a dozen players that had a better year than him.

Callan Ward has been very good all year in a crap team. He was a shoo in

When one considers that only 5 players played more games than him then it's feasible.

On a stats average he rated 11th, but it's subjective. And the following doesn't rate efficiency, hurt factor, etc. He's a fail.

An epic one at this stage.

MFC have dodged a bullet with the 2 PPs. Very lucky.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
