Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Surely Stef Martin is a keeper. He is ahead of Gawn and Spencer.

I would see him being a big athletic 2nd ruckman.

Strengths: good athlete, composure , big frame and kicking accuracy.

Weaknesses: footy brain needs developing (not a natural footballer), injury free run needed, needs to use his frame to impose himself (get his hands dirty)

Would have trade value to Pies and Saints. Saints may offer up a pick trade.

If you really think Spencer will ever be better than Martin there is no hope for you. Order your brain transplant now..

Errr... no, I didn't say that. I said I'd rather see Neeld put development into Spencer, Fitz and Gawn than see games put into Martin. I don't see a future for him at the Dees. Order your reading glasses now...

I remember one of the first games Martin had to ruck on his own. It was against St Kilda and it was a centre bounce between him and Kosi. Just before the ball was bounced, Martin had this animal-like look of determination on his face. He proceeded to jump on Kosi's shoulders, win the tap straight to one of our guys, and we kicked a goal out of it. His leap on that occasion was just phenomenal. Deadset, his knees were planted on Kosi's shoulders like they were two kids trying to look over a fence.

He could be a fantastic first-selection ruckman if given the opportunity.

I remember that game well. Kosi is always known for getting knocked out and on that day Stef kept Kneeing Kosi in the head with his massive leap. He is a keeper for me and needs to put consecutive games together in 2013 to show his true potential.

Martin showed us all what he is capable when he is given the opportunity last year while Jamar was injured! was in the top 5 ruckman in the game!

Well then if he is so fantastic, he'll be good trade bait in a month.

The reality is that Neeld has given him few opportunities (not withstanding his injury issues) and probably sees him as no more than depth behind Jamar, Gawn and Spencer. Whether you think him to be top 5 material or not, he will struggle if he stays at the Dees.

If we pick up a young ruck in this year's draft, his career will suffer further.

He would be better off starting afresh elsewhere in 2013.

Well your brain clearly works in different ways and still requires a transplant. If you want to play Spenc then its implicit you think he will be better than Martin, If thats not what you mean then go back to school champ and learn how to write what you mean.

Are you now telling us that even if you play Spenc for games in front of Martin he will not be better?? Staggering.

And as for your other brilliant comment that Neeld has given him few opportunities I guess that explains why he has racked up all those games for Casey tis year. Because he has been available and Neeld didn't want to pick him. He'll go close to winning the Casey B& F on those TWO games. Quality post.

And Dawes has been shown up for what he is whent the ball doesn't hit his [censored] lace-out.

A big goofy hack.

Stef will stay-Spencer is nowhere near him.

No. Try again champ.

I said that IMO Martin would not be part of our future tall mix and that the development of Spencer, Fitz and Gawn would be a higher priority.

Simple. Get it? Nothing more implicit.

You are putting words where there are none.

Will Spencer or Fitz or Gawn be better footballers for us than Martin? Neither you nor I know the answer. But I believe Martin is not rated highly by Neeld and, therefore, would be of greater value as a trade. If he can be part of a deal with, say, pick 13 to get us a quality midfielder, then I would be happy.

I do not believe that Martin is a top 5 ruck as some here think......Unless you are talking about top 5 at the MFC.

Martin is a better player than Spencer, and more versatile

Looking at yesterday's game we seriously need another tall backman Frawley was undersized Rivers is always undersized as is Garland. Sellar was recruited as a backman I thought but seems to have been thrown forward. Why can't Martin be the big backman we obviously need. As a rebounder he would be hard to stop playing on slow giants. He started as a full back and was then thrown all over the shop. I'd trade a few others before him.

Good point dr. He did well when he was initially played back at the start of his career. Would have thought he'd be tried there this season at some point, if that was the case. Worth some discussion.

Well the football department think otherwise

They're saying Dawes' stock will never be lower and Collingwood are desperate for a Ruckman so it's a classic buy low sell high

He's also a key forward from a premiership side who is one of the fittest guys at the club and those types are not to be scoffed at.

I'd put my money on this coming from some bored, storyless journo trawling through here for trade ideas and has stumbled upon NAH's posts.

If Collingwood are into getting a ruckman I hear Josh Fraser will be available (and people give us [censored] for drafting Jack Watts!)

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
