Leigh Williams hurt himself last week at Casey. Looked like an ankle. I don't understand why he wasn't named on the injury list or mentioned in the weekly Dave Misson interview.

Is that Kyle Matthews on the bench? If so that is fantastic, a wonderful player to watch.

Leigh Williams did get hurt at Casey but let's face it, we need a mystery injury every week and Williams looks like he's it this week. He was doing well before injured.

And it is Kyle Matthews who has recovered from two shoulder injuries. He kicked five goals about this time last year on his return from injury, so here's hoping!

Viney? Viney!

School footy has finished for the year so I suggest we'll see Viney playing the last few rounds. I wonder if he's eligible to play finals? KC?

Don't go too well Jack, we still want to take you with a 2nd rounder!

Was it Kyle Matthews who was king hit a couple of years ago and ended up in a pretty bad way? If so great to see him playing again, good on him and hopefully he kicks a few.

Yes

No Pickles or Nicho... disappointing.

More candidates for the mystery injury of the week.

Looking at the two line ups, you can see a significant difference between the Magpies and the Demons.

Collingwood has 17 AFL listed players available compared with Casey's eight.

Things are going to be tough for the Scorpions from this point on.

Excellent to see Matthews back in again. Inspirational stuff.

Cook on the bench...

Leigh Williams?

Its telling that while a rookie FF is now out injured it does not result in Cook being named in the 18. Hardly a vote of confidence. Will be watching ABC with interest to see whats on show.

So, by my count, we have 16 players unavailable this week? Our inability to get our players on the field is breathtaking.

yes, its that time where Melbourne's contribution to Casey goes from 14-15 players to 10 to 9 to 8. By the end there will be only 3-4 MFC listed players in Caseys finals. Straight sets for the 3 year running !!

39 listed+ 7 rookies = 46

22 Demons

1 reserve - Magner

5 (??) - Nicholson ... rested. Martin ... rested. Jamar ... rested, Evans ... rested (played last week and finsihed the game). Mystery illness - Leigh Williams.

2 Lawrence and Jurrah - leave passes.

8 Season ending injuries- Gawn, Bartram, Clark, Davey, Taggert, Bennell, Morton, Petterd

= 8 to Casey

Imagine us having a standalone team (we have David Misson as the master ???????????)

Not sure what the point is here but on the injury list we haven't had the soft tissue injuries that a club like Essendon is having, mostly structural which you can't blame the him for.

Think we will see the benefits of Misson in the next couple of seasons, as for Casey well I guess with the Dees struggling we put more focus on Casey, at least one of our sides has been winning. In the end game it's really not that important.

It certainly isn't a great vote of confidence that our much maligned first round pick is "coming along nicely".

I know he hasn't had a preseason, talls take time etc but even he must be starting to have his doubts.

Worrying signs even the super optimists would have to concede.

According to some on here it is not his fault, or lack of ability, it is development. He is obviously a great footballer who is being hampered by MFC development. When he takes his eyes off the ball again it is the club's fault. I hope he makes it, but agree it is starting to get worrying.

I hope it IS on ABC, but the programme guide says they're doing the Port Melb game.

This is not a comment on Cook - this a comment on teamsheets.

Does anyone take the slightest bit of notice of the positions ? I expect that team selection may be over a couple of hours and they take about a minute and a half to put them in positions. In the seniors this week Grimes in on the wing - I have seen him play in the middle - has anyone ever seen him on the wing ? Scully is on the wing and McKenzie is in the centre - does anyone doubt that McKenzie will start on Scully ? Howe has started nearly every game up the ground - he is named in the forward pocket. Player positions named by clubs should be taken with passing amusement at best.

Fair point.

If Clark, Gawn, Willams and a couple of others were fit, do you think Cook would maintain his position on the bench?

Pizzed off its not on the ABC especially playing Collingwood!!!

Scorps kicking to the Yarra Falls end and score the opening goal but not before Jack Fitzpatrick kicks the opening behind of the day (as usual).

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
