Positives this Year

Recommended Posts

This year for the MFC has been a complete write off, and there is lots of negative feedback coming through these forums, some is over the top and un called for, some is fair and true.

But in a long failure of a year I have noticed some shinning lights...

  • Mitch Clark - I was worried we were spending alot of money on someone who wasnt worth it, but I have eaten humble pie. Not only on the ground but but I have seen a few pre game warm ups that he is leading, and I think there has been a few times this year he has auctioned off signed jumpers footys etc. Seems to me the exact role model for who want want at our footy club in all aspects.
  • Jack Grimes - For Grimesy to play a whole season without getting seriously injured is worth partying over as far as im concerned. But not only that he is getting better and better each game and going more and more through the middle.
  • Tom McDonald - We have found another beauty here. While he may never be as good as Fletcher or Scarlett (time will tell) I can see a solid 250+ gamer who at the end of his career people will say "wow he really did have a good career"

These are a few good examples, lets hear some more. Ive had just about enough of the doom and gloom that follows our great club every where it goes.

Good gets but as we all know the level of postives this year could never outweigh the negatives. In fact the biggest positive we can get out of this year is that next year and the followoing years could not possibly be worse.

Other positives this year are the outstanding improvement of Nathan Jones proving that the MFC can develop players who have the right attitude. Also positives would be the departure of Barry Pendergast and the shake out that's occuring in relation to the senior players left over from the Daniher era.

I agree, Jones has been great this year. It should be no surprise that he, being a 100+ game player and coupled with his elite preparation, is one of the few excelling and flourishing with the new high intensity training regime that's been implemented.

Has he been re-signed yet?

Hopefully a lot more get on board with him and we will see a lot of improvement.

Mitch Clark - injured, misses half the year, injury could effect him in the future

Jack Grimes - Struggled for form

Tom McDonald - Struggled for form after injury

Love the sentiment of the OP, but the sooner this year is over, the better.

POSITIVES THIS YEAR??

I felt sure this was going to be the shortest thread on record.

Mitch Clark

Nate Jones

Jack Grimes

Jeremy Howe

Jack Watts

All names that have given me hope this year.

Despite the lack of support I think Grimes has thrived in the captaincy role as the year has gone on. He's missed a lot of footy and early on was struggling but he's now consistently racking up the possies and his disposal is getting closer to what we remember.

Clark has done so much in so little time at the Dees and he's brought a completely forgeign attitude to the club. A bit of mongrel, lots of competitiveness, and excellent skills.

Jones will win the B&F by a country mile, and with good reason. The only player that gives 100% every week, his skills have improved out of sight, and is one of a very few that would be a walk up start in most teams.

Howe and Watts have shown the skills they've got and each produced good football. It's great to see Jack silencing his critics, especially given some of he ridiculous statements that were made about such a young player. I feel he's going to become a flexible A-grade at least player for us. Howe continues to excite and when watching a team that's so lackluster, at least he can bring us to our feet in the darkest of times.

As said, negatives outweigh the positives this year, I could write and 4000 word essay on the negatives but it is good to think positively every now and then.

I love how many 250+ game players we have on our list, cosidering we have only had 8 in 150+ years.

Didnt know that, I suppose it is a pretty big call.

Is the weeding out of so called list cloggers a positive from this year? Being able to give Morton, Bate, Petterd and these types of blokes an opportunity and the ones that are no good move on?

Nathan Jones.

Mitch Clark before injury.

That's it. This has been the worst year for the MFC in my lifetime. Here's hoping next year sees a quick improvement or I might just off myself!

definitely Jeremy howe! he takes a contender for mark of the year each game :o he has also proven this year that he is not only a leaping, high marking forward but he can also push up to the wing and have a good influence up their. it may be too early to tell but i think we have no reason to say that he will not develop into a true star!

Jack watts and Jones and Clark have all been shining lights for us too :)

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
