Of our current list, this is a far easier question to answer.

I can only think of 12 guys

The dirty dozen who have the right stuff to take us forward .

Mitch Clark

Frawley

J Howe

Col Sylvia

Trengove

Grimes

Watts

Sylvia (edit-Jones for the 2nd Sylvia)

Tom Mc

Stef Martin

Jurrah

Blease

The two Jordies should be on this list but they are not yet worthy.

Who are the others that show they have the ability to play consistent winning football?

I'm hoping I've forgotten a couple of gems.

I dont include guys like Cook ,Fitzy ,Spencer ,Jetta in this list because they need more of a go .

Nicho and Bail I would keep only because they have potential.

Are there any other definate keepers?

Posted

Gotta keep Garland superstar he is not but a premiership team isn't chock full of them he does a job forward and back I can't complain with him. Nicho is a keeper to me. I would prefer to him being pushed up the ground a bit more instead of being a deep defender on the small forward but i like his stuff.

Posted

I left Judy off because I doubt he would be a walk up start at another club. l like Judy alot but he leaves me weeping at times.

Posted

Probably lock in Nathan Jones too for me, probably our best player. Rivers too has shown enough this year both in his traditional and an unfamiliar role.

Posted

The bloke leading our B&F by a mile, Jones.

Sorry -forgot him in a moment of insanity.

Posted

You have to have Jamar on that list is he is first ruck and an AA(how quickly ppl forget) who has just been re-signed for 3 years

Garland has to stay, No Jordie Mac- are you having a laugh? Rivers is a general down back, he stays- Nicho is the closest thing to a running defender we have- he stays, and your omission of Jones is disgraceful.

Not a huge list to b honest

Posted

Well we have him for another three years so enjoy

Don't get the Russian bashing. If he was surrounded by decent players no one would ever question him.

Agree on the Jones comments. Has shown a lot of fight this year.

Posted

Jordy Mac and Judy Garland are great clubmen but not hitting any heights.

Where does Riv fit in? I dont know.

Leaving Jones out was disgraceful Sloonie. My apologies

Posted

Every player can't "hit heights" though, you must have your run of the mill blue collar workers. Jordy Mac is blue chip in the gritty stuff. Judy Garland, like Rivers are versatile backman who can plug holes and on their day can be more than handy. And they have to stay because there is no one else to play their roles.

You can only think of 12 players we should keep. You're right - let's make 33 changes to the list then.

Alternatively, we keep every player who isn't one of the 6 or 7 we delist.

Well if you're on your way to MFC headquarters with this thread Nasher fill your boots lol

There are only 12 guys of consistent and competent AFL standard Nasher-I wish we had more but we dont.

Obviously we have some guys on the list we need to develop.

Jordy Mac ,Jordy Gys ,Jamar ,and Judy maybe.

Nicho and Bail maybe.

But not quite rock solid yet .

Gysberts? Can be a ball magnet.

Gawn was showing something...needs more time.

No to Stef Martin, yes to Jamar.

I reckon we "Need" all 3.-Stefan is the best of these because he has mobility ,skill, second and third efforts .

What's your take on the end of year cull, Biffen? Do you predict (heard?) 6? 10? 13?

What does your source tell you?

Posted

I predict 10-12 delistings.

My source didn't give me a number but he used the words "ruthless and brutal"and nodded after most names I mentioned.

It gives me no pleasure to pass this on but be prepared to see the new broom come out .

I reckon there are 10-12 guys we could name to go but no more than 18 to 20 that we should keep .

Remember that I love the club and I love some of the players that wil go -but do you really think Neeld is a nurturer?

We employed Neeld because he is very difficult to F&ck with .

Definitely keep:

Bail

Blease

Clark

Cook

Couch

Davey (worth more as a risk than what we could get as a trade)

Frawley

Garland

Gawn

Grimes

Gysberts

Howe

Jamar

Jones

MacDonald (been good this year, needed for depth)

Martin

McDonald

McKenzie

Rivers

Sylvia

Trengove

Watts

Trade if for reasonable return:

Bartram

Bate

Bennell

Dunn

Rest of season to put themselves into one of the above:

Davis

Fitzpatrick

Green

Jetta

Jurrah (just because of the legal proceedings, future uncertain)

Moloney

Morton

Petterd

Sellar

Spencer

Strauss

Tapscott

I haven't included a "delist" section as yet, as that will take the rest of the season to work out I think.

I know you're not a Tappy fan, stuie, but Sellar's been okayish and Strauss needs another year - it takes a long time to recover from his serios injury...

I hope Jurrah stays out of gaol.

I think probably Tappy, Sellar, and Strauss will still be around. Tappy is a Neeld kind of player, Sellar is exceptionally handy for depth, and Strauss hasn't been given a chance really yet, so I think they'll be around just didn't want to say 100% yet.

Posted

More useful to have an out of contract list and start with that.

The remaining contracted players can then be looked at as potential trade bait with a view to between 0 and 2 players being traded.

Then there's the rookies - have to delist and/or upgrade at least 2 as the rookie list is being cut this year.

It's an excruciating snore fest to see endless demands to delist contracted player x, y or z.

I agree with you on Tappy and Strauss although they have to iron out inconsistencies.

Sellar has been OK but he doesn't really float my boat .

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
