We dont need to use pick 4 to beat Geelong when pick 12 will beat them anyway.

Only competition we may have by using pick 12 is that the Bulldogs can trump us, however are they willing to give up there first rounder?

I like the mentioning of the MOU in regards to JV. Now, for all those that got on here a couple of months ago saying he's contracted, blah blah, perhaps now you will understand that anything is possible in this Viney situation.

Give us some credit, Billy.

I never said it was a binding agreement, only a clear illustration of our intentions.

I also have said that it is necessary for us to 'scoff' at suggestions that Viney is worth a top 2 pick so that it gives GWS and GC wriggle room once they agree to not bid on him - we have to allow them to say "we didn't bid on Jack because we saw some better prospects at the first (second) spot."

If we come out and spout how good he is and that we will take him at 3 it leaves little room for GWS and GC as we try to make this deal surrepticiously to push Viney into the second round.

And I am absolutely certain that if GC and GWS don't bid for Viney - it will be because of the promise of a deal with us. I would do the same if the roles were reversed.

It will be a busy and confusing landscape come the Trade/Draft Period:

Boak, Cloke, possibly Viney at 3 or 25, any other possible free agent signings, who to take at 4 if we don't trade it, possible involvement in the 17 year old draft, etc.

Stay tuned, sportsfans! I will be here to help you through the everchanging scenarios.

I don't know what all the fuss is about on Boak? A good solid player but nothing special. Doesn't kick a lot of goals or lay a lot of tackles. He can find the ball but again his averages are not huge and haven't gone up from 3 or 4 years ago. Going on his stats he seems to have peaked.

agree 100%

i would much rather Beams, and if we cant get him then take our picks to the draft and do what we need to there, but a no for me for Boak

Cloke (On big coin)

Martin (First 17 year old for our first rounder)

Toumpas/Stringer (First compo pick)

Boak (Mid-round compo pick + 2nd round pick)

Viney (3rd Round Pick)

Can we trade picks from PSD? I am sure a player here and there can make the above feasible

I knew your mini draft trade idea was just dumb luck rather than genius.

Love it how we are in the mix for everything (17 yr olds, cloke, boak, Viney ect)

With this in the paper other teams may try make a play for our pick 4 and it could work the other way around with teams approaching us offering the above for this pick.

No, i just like to throw out diff scenario ideas and suggestions and be creative rather then just critique other peoples posts then go and post similar ideas a few months later such as you do.

I will ask again, can PSD picks be traded?

For my money, I'd like to see us go after Beams. I think he'd fit into our midfield nicely, but can't say much about Boak as I haven't seen a lot of Power games lately. Would much rather we put all our effort into recruiting a Beams or a Boak than a Travis Cloke though!!

Keep in mind our 2nd compo pick. Still better than most anything anyone is likely to put on table ;)

Wonder if any straight player swap for boak would be feasible here?

Martin - How is ports ruck stocks going?

Trengove - Boak seems to be performing better, would this ruin the MFC culture?

Rivers - Playing the best he has for his career, his value now would be better then ever and will diminish in next few years

Blease - Young with potential, could be upset that his mate scully left?

I would be surprised if they did. Dogs are okay for mids but desperately need to recruit or draft forwards.

All good fun but no way do we cough up pick 4 for Boak.

Be happy to get him to the club under another scenario, though.

How can we consider trading pick 4 and pass up the opportunity to get another Morton?

In all seriousness, I imagine a straight-up trade may look like:

Pick 4 & 12 from Melb to Port

Pick 7 from Port to Melb

We could end up with Viney, Plowman/Wines/Simpson/Kennedy and Boak.

And if we could convince GWS & GC through trade to let us get Viney with our second-rounder, you could add Hogan or Martin to that.

A bloody great result.

Travis Boak:

Averages 22.4 disposals @ 64.3% efficiency.

Averages 3.2 marks, 3.7 clearances & 3.3 tackles per game.

Boak would get the No.1 tagger every week. Given that, and the fact that he gets little midfield support, these stats are pretty damn good. Would be a great pick-up, and as someone else says, would immediately be our No.1 mid.

Beams is good, but there would be 3 or 4 ahead of him to be tagged in the PIes midfield.

Nah, I reckon that would be fine - no culture-wrecking considerations in that.

Are you serious?

Please suggest a good feasible player swap Undeeterred

Love it how u highlight just 1 out of the 4 names i threw out there though do not have any constructive input at all into the suggestions

He may not want to go to the Doggies.

The Cats & Bombers I think have been courting him for a year or two. Beware them striking a deal.

Forget Cloke, get Boak with a Mid 1st Rnder, a player, & a nice pay packet.

Then we can offer GWS a comp pick (4), (or Sylvia + 3nd Rnd Pick) for Hogan (17Yr old Power Forward) & some nice. ...

Moloney to Bombers for they're 2nd Rnd Pick + Gumbleton. (ready made short term Key tall)

Pick 3 used on Vlastuin or other mid,,,

i dont have an opinion on what we should give up to get Boak.

I didnt think Mitch Clark would be such a good pick up, but we got him with big dollars and he has been a gun for us. I trust whoever saw 'key forward' in mitch clark to make the right call on Travis boak and trade/bid accordingly

I think Beams will stay @ the Pies. I don't think he wants to leave.

I reckon the Pies will sort it out, or Cloke will go, & they're others will stay.

IMO we can't afford to have Cloke.

I highlighted it because it was ridiculous.

I didn't suggest alternatives because I think it is really difficult to get a 'straight up' swap that works. I can't see one on our list that would be acceptable to Port, other than people we wouldn't give up.

Constructive input:

Martin - I don't think it matters what their ruck stocks are like, they aren't going to give up their best midfielder for our third string ruckman who currently can't get a game in front of Sellar (although post-injury form might change that).

Rivers - potentially, but again, I don't think Port is going to give up their best mid straight up, even for one of our best and most versatile defenders.

Blease - basically unproven, why would they accept that?

Now, any of those with a good draft pick or picks might work. But not on their own.

Geelong have the Ablett compo, so they have 2 middle of the rung first rounders, both between say 13-16ish i imagine

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
