So do we pick up Jake Stringer or Travis Boak? I'd like both but Boak could be another huge get for the club, or it could get Beams, a lot of options this year!!

I'd suggest Boak as he would provide us with another mature age body in the guts and I don't believe it would cost us as much as beams. Either way we are in a prime position to strike. very interesting also that MFC are playing tough with GWS and GCS Viney pick.

Bout time we grew some testicles

Definitely a change in attitude since the new coach has been on board, and I love his approach

Looking at his stats this year pick 4 may be overs, i would give pick 12 but he was a 5th pick in 2006 so its hard to place his value exactly, are we going to give overs and lose a potential gun in stringer who has had endorsments from Joel Selwood, Cameron Ling and very strong praise from Brett Kirk?? We shall see

I don't know what all the fuss is about on Boak? A good solid player but nothing special. Doesn't kick a lot of goals or lay a lot of tackles. He can find the ball but again his averages are not huge and haven't gone up from 3 or 4 years ago. Going on his stats he seems to have peaked.

Guest José Mourinho

We're up tp our necks in this.

But as I floated in another thread:

Pick 3 from Melb to GWS

Mini-draft pick 1 from GWS to Port

Boak from Port to Melb

Petterd from Melb to GC

Viney with 2nd rounder

It's the best GWS will get for the mini-draft pick, and we're only really losing our 2nd round pick & Petterd (or another player).

That is assuming we don't string a few wins together and play ourselves up the ladder a bit (which is quite possible). I do like the idea though.

Also, I would be very disappointed if we let GW$ or GC take Viney...I'd rather pay overs and have that sort of player at our club than play hardball and risk not having him at all.

Stringer? Pssh, Toumpas is where it's at

This is the exact reason why Pick 4 for Boak is a reasonable consideration. We have no bloody idea what Stringer, Toumpas or anyone will be like, but we do with Boak.

I admit, Pick 4 would be bloody high - I would've liked to hear it was our mid-first round pick.

Some will look at it as a Stringer or Boak-type argument, I look at it as a Boak v Scully situation.

I like the mentioning of the MOU in regards to JV. Now, for all those that got on here a couple of months ago saying he's contracted, blah blah, perhaps now you will understand that anything is possible in this Viney situation.

Welcome to the MFC Travis Boak.

Either way we will get what we need to finish the puzzle , another topline midfielder to compliment Viney.

Whether it be, Boak, Beams ,Stringer....i beleive we will snag one of these players...then watch out!

I would probably prefer a mature bodied player, who can double as a leader on field.

I am now completely over Scully and very content with what we have.

Here we go fellas.

The new management team brought us Mitch Clarke.

Now for Travis Boak.

Melbourne's trade advantage could trump Geelong in race for Port Adelaide's Travis Boak

I'm glad we are able to be in a good position to lure players.... but Travis Boak...set the world on fire has he? No,no he hasnt.

He plays solid footy but is not an outstanding player.

I wouldnt be paying him a massive wage...more than what port will pay sure.... but sorry hes just not anything special.

MFC have stated a little while ago that alot of players managers had contacted the club knowing we have $$ to lure their player atm.

There will be more talented free agents yet...wait and see...

I'm not saying Boak isnt worth a lure...I just think hes only a good footballer. We need a star midfielder to recruit.

If we want potential that we look at young kids in the draft. At this stage Boak remains potential - he has yet to really light up midfield footy - and so I question his worth to us. Can anyone tell me if Boak is an in-and-under midfielder, an outside runner, strong over the ball or whatever other cliche we might use to describe his basic footy attributes? Does he have explosive pace or an excellent kick?

At the moment he is not in the same park as Dane Beams. We have the $ and should pursue him.

Having said all that I thought Mitch Clark was potential only and, well...

Boak doesn't rank in the top 50 midfielders in Dream Team calculations. On his current points (795) he would be our 9th best, behind Col Garland (809) and just ahead of Jack Watts (767). Is this enough to get this excited about? We need to be careful we don't get sucked into paying more than he's worth. I'm sure he would be a handy pick-up but can we do better?

Does anyone actually watch Port play?

Travis Boak would immediately be our number 1 midfielder. Currently as the primary midfielder in a poor midfield group he has had 25+ possessions on 50% of his games played this year. 5 of 10 he has had minimum 4 tackles. 6 of 10 he has had minimum 4 clearances.

I am not saying we should use it but anyone who thinks pick 4 is overs and a speculative kid makes more sense is kidding themselves.

I agree, we shouldn't use a Top 5 pick for Boak, but rather a Mid 1st Rnd pick + a player.

Our early picks should be used for potential young super stars, Our 1st pick & 1st comp' pick.

What has the world come to when we are rating the ability of a player based on DT score.

TT - the list of available Free Agents is already out, and there aint much quality on it, especially those leaving a premiership contender to come to Melbourne. There are certain rules in regards to the players that we can pick up through FA - I hope you realise that (apologies if you do!).

If we can get him at a reasonable price, I think he is well worth it. It will add to the good group of 24 year olds that we have, which we are needing to rely on in the short term.

I also laugh at the comments about him having a poor year - averaging 22 disposals a game would see him toward the top of our possession getters.

Personally, I'd pick Boak over Beams in a heartbeat.

try package our 2nd rounder and mid-first rounder. then tell gws they can have our first rounder for first 17 yr old

with that, we can get 17 yr older, stringer/toumpas, boak and viney (3rd round) (if GC dont bid, which is a high possibility)

How many times does the F/S bidding system have to be explained on here?

how have i not taken into account the f/s bidding? if we are already discussing things with port then whats stopping us from discussing things with GWS. And in my scenario i did mention (IF gc dont bid) meaning i understand that the bidding process is before trade week

We should also be careful not to get sucked into recruiting based on dreamteam or supercoach scores.......

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
