Too radical? A man in a velvet coat playing the trumpet? Sounds positively revolutionary!

Indeed, we are the Demons and we can do whatever we like. It's just that many or even most don't like this.

Now, after we get some on-field presence about us give me 20 hornblowers in velvet jackets with those bloody long horns hanging Dees flags from them giving a grand regal processional immediately before the players' enter the arena, and I'm sold! That would drive the opposition totally mental and done right, would be more like a proton pill than kryptonite! By comparison, the bugler looks and sounds like he's busking for lunch money.

No offence to the guy but I absolutely can't stand it and have told Cameron Schwab over twitter.

Cringe worthy in the highest order. I would love to know our win/loss record since we started this terrible "tradition".

If they have to do anything like this I'd rather see a different "act" each week attempt a cover of the song. That's IF we need to do this at all.....which we don't.

I really, really, really don't like it.

I cant believe the negativity. So a guy wants to blow his horn and wear a silly coat. Is that too radical? We are the Demons and we can do what we bloody well like!

To be honest, and maybe I should have been a little bit clearer earlier, I wouldn't care if he was a punter in the stands, blowing his bugle. I don't want him broadcast on the scoreboard for all of us to listen to.

i would prefer as a pre game entertainment stream, some real & proper jousting (Game of Thrones style)...By this i mean real swords & real action

Let's see some real blood on the MCG Turf before the Demons run out onto the ground to finish the job properly.

That would get the crowd fired...sod the boring music that is too loud.

I love the idea in theory, but I'm not sure the velvet fog is the best way to execute it. I think the club could make a higher quality, perfect, error-free rendition of the Grand Old Flag over the speakers, very faintly leading into the opening bounce.

I really like the club's intentions to lay traditional foundations at the club, but people would probably enjoy the trumpet more if he'd arrive at the club, at say, any time BEFORE 2008!

I am happy for him to stick around until the club starts winning, but it sucks for him that he started doing it right as the club started losing. I certainly see more ties to Demons traditions, and stronger ties with the MCG, which is awesome.

IF we were successful on the field I doubt if so many would worry about this. The big problem is that we aren't winning matches, not that we have an innocuous bugler.

I $%@&ing hate it

I know the Bugler was on here a couple of weeks ago & full credit to him for presenting his position. Probably a nice bloke.

But still I $%@&ing hate it

If someone can show me where our founding fathers pronounced "Let the trumpets sound" then I'll concede it has something to do with our tradition but I won't be holding my breath. Something I wish the bugler would do more of.

Non MFC supporters who have attended the footy with me are unanimous in their condemnation. They all reckon that this little ceremony makes our club look like a bunch of tossers

Now there will be those who'll have the view that they couldn't give a rat's about what others think. Well I do - I think how the club is perceived externally is important.

This crap does nothing for us. It's like letting the air out of the ball before the first bounce

Plus we've been rubbish since it started which doesn't help

I'd like to see the entire coaching staff wear these at all home games.

I like it kind sir, if one can't reminisce the grand old days of smokey rooms filled with the smell of wafting old tobac en pipe whilst listening to the wireless of a great team known as the Melbourne Fuchsias demoralizing another team then off to Gaol you shall go!

Embrace it you twots bit of harmless fun, I've never copped any [censored] about I ever, I think opposing clubs either don't give a toss or quite like it

If you want to face cold hard facts, then that is not a bugle he is playing, it is a trumpet. He is therefore a trumpeter, not a bugler.

I quite like it when he plays the theme from Superman...I reckon that could be quite effective symbolism at 3 qtr time in a close game.

The Trumpet will sound awesome when the Melbourne Football Club is a top 4 side.

It is a battle cry. A call to arms.

At the minute General Neeld is still training & recruiting his preferred army.

Not sure they even have the recruiting booth sorted out yet wyl.

I guess you have to start somewhere but 2014 -5 looks like it might be the time for a battle cry.

I hope our Trumpeter does not run out of spital over the next 55 games.

It could be viewed that way. However, I would find it difficult to take orders from or be inspired by someone who looks like he has just stepped out of an English country mansion. Perhaps a more military flavor could be added to it?

I still reckon we play 'Sirius' by the Alan Parsons Project. The club would have to pay some royalties to the band but didn't they have to last year as well to Metallica when they played 'Enter Sandman'?

I don't know CBF it looks a lot like this years Player Blazer to me.

I think it fits in perfectly with what the GP think of the MFC

It's time we looked at the cold hard facts... The Melbourne Football Club has kept this bloke around the place for nigh on 5 years now and despite for all the patience we have had, he is taking us nowhere...

You know who I am talking about....

That's right. The Bugler. Damn, that stuff is grating. The bloke himself might be a perfectly nice guy but if we want the club to move away from this wanky, private school elitist image that is prevalent among fans of opposition clubs, stuff like this (and that stupid blazer) need to go. I sit near the cheer squad every home match and I know Melbourne supporters are no different to any others. If Melbourne wants to be known as a serious footy club that is more about substance and less about image (why the club wants to foster this image is beyond me), they need to cancel this pre-match 'entertainment'.

To this end, I have started the following Facebook group: http://www.facebook....92595587502674/

Please join. If we can get enough rank and file supporters to join, we might be able to get the attention of the higher ups.

P.S. I am aware I am shamelessly promoting a group I have started so let's not start the pile on. I thought if I should make a first post, it should be aimed at provoking discussion and working towards a goal of some description. Whether or not you feel that goal is worthwhile is entirely up to you!

P.P.S. I am also aware in the bigger scheme of things the bugler is only a small part of the problem. There are other underlying issues at the club but I reckon the sooner they shed crap like this, the sooner we will move away from being a club that, to paraphrase Mick Malthouse, is about anything but football.

Complete rubbish, you should be ashamed of yourself. There are issues with our club, but alienating certain segments of our supporter base is only going to divide and split the club rather than unite it. The MCC and its members are one of these groups that add significant financial backing to the club, further the MFC was born and inside the MCC for over 130 years. Why alienate them or any member who happened to go to a private school? Jim Stynes spent his time as President undoing the damage crap like this creates. We are a diverse club with diverse supporters from almost all imaginable demographics. The MFC does not stand for one group or another, it stands for united supporters regardless of their demographic. Wearing a traditional blazer has no effect on whether we win a premiership like you suggest, but the financial support of certain demographics of our supporter base will. The MFC stands for all members and it is time you joined and embraced the diversity of the club or resigned your membership. There are plenty of other clubs to support. The club does not need idiots trying to divide it. It needs leaders from all demographics uniting its members and supporters to the one common cause…….. A PREMIERSHIP.

I have no problems with people dressing well. It's called style.

The English & French have led the way for years. & it never stopped them going to war.

"The single trumpet rings out over the battlefield" uniting all Demons to the cause. Wait until 40,000 are cheering during the rendition. Then you will know the cry.

It sounds lame now i agree...but it won't as the success builds.

And opposition supporters will hate it.
