I said lightweight because you have to question the whole scenario. (1) It was some sort of non official [censored] up. (2) At such functions people are careless (3) Robbo wasn't there so he's relying on hearsay from a function that was (see 1 and 2 above)

Thankyou. And today he writes..."But what if it were true"...i mean really.

This has to be one of the worst peices of "journalism" i have ever read,

Resignation required.

So every time a journo gets it wrong based on the perception of others, they should resign? Wow the newsrooms

of Australia would be barren. We'd have to rely on the twitterverse for our 'news'

I dont care if it was a throw away line after a few drinks as WYL has alluded to . Totally inappropriate.

Approached twice apparently. The latter approach of the two was considered that the League's interest was genuine.

Cook should eye off the CEO role of the AFL.

Formality. It was an off the cuff joke made after numerous bottles. Not a back page headline.

Wrong.

Demetriou wouldn't work that way. Everything he does will be calculated. All it would take was Cook showing the slightest intrest or hesitating, and AD would then know its an option. Nothing at that level happens by accident over a 'boozy' lunch.

Good get Robbo!

The point is that journos, like all everyone else will make mistakes, however, many of them are less than scrupulous in checking or verifying their info - that is the problem. Anyway, I'm not sure that a few less journos would be such a bad thing!

This is the sort of rubbish that gets journos into trouble. Just for my benefit what exclusive insight do you have into AD's thinking? How do you know that AD wouldn't "work that way"? That everything would be "calculated"? Are you Andrew Demetriou? What stupidity?

Mark Rendell says hi.

He had a few drinks and a throw away line with which Mr.D threw him under the bus.

The double standards in our games administration are a blight on everyone involved in it.

The amount of Booze and the size of glasses for that Booze would have a lot to do with it.

An off the cuff reply is a lot different to a formal request.

Please...are you really that naive?

Because a man is judged by his actions and we know from history that Andy D acts like a corrupt politician or businessman.

This gets even sillier. Not only do you know what AD thinks but you apparently have insights into the minds of "corrupt politician" and "businessman". Just give us next weeks lotto results.

Posted

I repeat my questions. How can someone know what AD is thinking?

Its a fair point to suggest we CAN NOT know what he thinks.

But we all see his actions and can do a little reverse engineering within certain parameters of suspicion.

This too is a fair call

Haha so you just take everyone at face value do you, despite what their history tells you? You probably think Bush really wenty into Iraq for WMD?

Hey I've got a bridge in Sydney for sale, PM me.

you are 100% right - we cannot know what he is thinking therefore those on here saying that he knew exactly what was he was saying are guessing exactly the same way as those who say it was a throw away line after too many wines are also guessing.

So in absense of knowing what he was thinking he can only be judged on what he said without any "tinting" and for the CEO of the league to say to a CEO of a club that he should be at a different club (or head of the AFL) is entirely inappropriate.

It was a causal discussion and absolutely nothing in it! Robbo as he does unbuckled his pants, got a hard on and fired blanks. He's made an absolute mountain out of a molehill.... Awful article. Hang your head in shame Robbo!!!

It's not so much what A.D. said or thought. It's the way Mark Robinson reported it.

I mean he called the Boozy iceberg lunch a "secret meeting" & a day later wrote "But what if it was"....humorous at best & hardly back page material.

Spot on nutbean.

Yep absolutely.

Even though it was apparently informal and in jest, Cook still confirmed that the AFL "made an approach."

Interesting choice of words if it was just a passing flippant comment.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
