Sorry but something just isn't adding up. If everything is as rosy as all the players say then why are we 0-9? Open your eyes people. There are clear issues with certain players and the coach!!!! Team's don't perform this badly without some existing issues. I know our list is poor to say the least but there seems to be other factors at play here. Do you really think that Rivers or any other player is going to come out in the media and admit there are issues??????? If the entire playing group is 100% behind the coach then I'll eat my own hat!!! Read in between the lines..... Don't be so gullible to believe what players and or officials say to the media.

Firstly, thanks for vindicating my original post simma.

Every club no doubt has players that are at odds with their coach as that no doubt comes with the territory as far as being dropped for not performing or for breaking the leadership group's self imposed rules etc goes. However, not every team is coming from ground zero with an almost entirely new coaching group, new game plan (did we even have one before) and more distractions than anyone could imagine (even other coaches and media pundits have been saying Neeld has had the initiation from hell). Perhaps we are performing poorly simply because we aren't good enough yet.

Or Neeld and Misson inherited a playing group who were not at the same fitness levels as the players at the Pies and the Saints and who had no real grounding in modern game plan/structures.

Fitness wise Misson has said that we were deficient with one marker being our players inferior 1km and 3km time trial times compared to the Pies and Saints. Misson also revealed in his interview with Peter Ryan on the club web site that we are doing more running in season compared to the Saints last year because we are still building our fitness to the elite level. This extra running will have an impact on our performance in games this season - we won't be as fresh as opponents - but its all about laying foundation for 2013 pre season which will hopefull allow us to run out in Rnd 1 2013 with a team as fit as their opponents.

Its the same with our tactics. Players are learning the decision making required to implement the modern structures afte playing the flood under Bailey for 4 years. Thats not something players can master overnight.

Just like there were clearly issues with Richmond's players and Harwick when they were 0-9 only a few years ago.

Sometimes it's just a case of new coach, new regime, new game plan and players who aren't quite good or experienced enough to implement it after less then a year when they've previosuly been playing unaccountable, downhill running footy....

Thats OK, it's a steep learning curve for the boy.

He's the type you'd put in a leadership role in the army, on the front line. Made of good stuff.

He'll bounce back bigger & stronger...

That's a seriously awesome post. Thank you.

For what it's worth, Fremantle are going through the same process with Ross Lyon. Just a better list and not starting from as low a base. Everyone thought they would challenge for top 4 this year, but they've been shown up as a team of front-runners with no defensive structures and average fitness.

Freo have always been pretenders. I think its impossible to have any pride in a purple jumper, the players demonstrate this year after year

That being said i'd prefer their win loss record in 2012 than ours.

More quality senior players, Broughton, Pavlich, Sandi, Mundy, Mcpharlin, who generally deliver in talent and leadership imo

That is our only difference to Freo atm

Well if its not the purple jumper its the club song, specifically the widley unknown 2nd & 3rd verses

We’re the rollers

We’re the rockers

We’re the mighty Freo Dockers!

We’re gonna roll ‘em and we’ll rock ‘em

We’re gonna send ‘em to the bottom

And if they get up, we’ll do again

The Dockers stop at nothing – nothing

Freo, way to go!

Hit ‘em real hard, send ‘em down below

Oh Freo, give ‘em the old heave ho

We are the Freo Dockers!

Dock dock Dockers

Show ‘em how we rock

(Freo heave ho)

Dock dock Dockers

Show ‘em how we roll

Go Dockers, Go Go Go!

I like Jared Rivers.

May not be in the leadership group, but has done his best to stand up in a backline under siege all season.

Quality bloke and quality player.................look after him MFC!

Yes the team is performing badly and yes it may be that some players may be feeling uncertain and concerned for their futures, but this is always going to happen when a new coach comes on board. The one thing that Jared said today I find comforting is that the Coach is up front and honest with players in regards to what they are doing well and what he wants them to work on. Also Jared alluded to Neeld being accessible to all players wanting feedback. The problem that I have with the media write up is the talks about their being a rift between senior players and the coach. Like its the sole reason that we are losing when there are a combination of issues that the team are trying to work through.

Neeld seems to be quite clear in his instructions on what he expects from each and every player, the players have a choice to adhere or get dropped down to VFL. If individual players are not behind the coach 100% then I say good luck to them because what the rest of the club as whole is saying is that they are a 100% behind Neelds vision for the future.

SO yes I agree it is a safe bet to say that some players are feeling a little bent out of shape and may even harbour ill feelings towards the coach, but if they think that they can continue to feel this way and still give their all on the field then they will come undone. When they do they may find themselves in the VFL or worse at seasons end.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
