Does anyone else not care about losing the respect we had for being a middling team with no hope for winning a flag?

Because that was the extent of the 'respect' we have lost...

Posted

Our old hard nuts created respect - Viney, Lyon, Tingay, Stynes, Lovett, Febey/s....

Now, it's all gone.

Unfortunately they didn't, an ex premiership player from another club of that era told me that he found the Melbourne players were arrogant and for the life of him he could never understand why. They had won nothing.

Some players like Robbie Flower will be respected on an individual basis but respect for the club will only come with a premiership.

Just like the players who will run out onto the SCG on Saturday, we need to have belief.

Therein lies part of the problem... just how much belief do the players really have?

I'll be there on Saturday, so I hope they find a spark (even though I have said that is probably the "kiss of death", I was at the Shanghai game when they managed to pull out an unlikely victory)...who knows, the smaller ground and the return of Jurrah (hopefully) may see them turn things around, although I have told my 10 year old to be prepared for loss :-)

We have to pin our hopes on something old dee, or all will be lost ........ and like rpfc, I refuse to believe that is the case. Just like the players who will run out onto the SCG on Saturday, we need to have belief.

Deeoldfart I have been suuporting the MFC since 1960, I am not about to fold my tent and disappear.

However over that 52 year period I have not seen as poor a team put on the park since the early 70's.

Right now I have almost no belief that there is anything but pain ahead of us for as far as I can see.

Hardtack the game is only available on Foxtel down here and as I have commitments Saturday afternoon I will not see it.

I look forward to your thoughts as I always think you get a much better feel when you are at a game.

I really hope they make a game of it as the fate of a future supporter is hanging in the balance.

We have been through quite a bit as a club, OD.

I refuse to believe that with all we have now - we are at our lowest ebb.

My wife made the following statement a couple of days ago rpfc I think she is on the money.

" without that web site you would have tossed in the Dees by now"

On reflection she is partly correct.

I will probably keep paying my membership till the MFC folds or I do which ever comes first.

But the contact and banter on Demonland has kept me going to games etc the last few years.

I am with you man. How our list can have the same pay scale as a Hawthorn or Geelong astounds me.

Value for $$$?? I think not. Mitch Clark & J Mckenzie excused.

Nothing that clever hardtack you have made a few comments about your son.

From a similar problem with my daughter 25 years ago I can see a repeat in the making.

I lost her mate I hope you have better luck.

Ah yes... I am hopeful he will stick it out... he is a Jurrah fan, so as long as he gets a game, I think that will be enough to satisfy him (well, I hope so , at least).

I agree totally hardtack, this is one of the key questions. How much belief do our players have in themselves (?); in their team mates (?); in our game plan (?); in our current direction as a footy team (?0); in the coaching staff (?); etc. I don't know the answer to any of these questions, but judging from where I sit, my guess is that at least some of these intangibles are missing ......... and it goes without saying that until we have 'total belief' we will not have the success that we crave. Fortunately, I think that belief can be established fairly quicklly (but definitely not overnight).

Fortunately, I think that belief can be established fairly quicklly (but definitely not overnight).

If they can string together some wins against quality established opposition (that is, not GC or GWS), then I think their belief will start to surface quite rapidly... as they say, it is a confidence game.

Edit: and I hope the first of those wins is on Saturday - for purely selfish reasons, of course :-)

hardtack in our current position I think wins against anyone would help.

I'm glad that you're not going to fold your tent and disappear old dee ..... you are too valuable around here for that. And I'm also glad that you have "almost no belief", because that statement suggests that you still have a glimmer of belief remaining ...... and from small things ..................!!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

A couple of intrepid Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock for the midweek Preseason Training Session to bring you the following observations. Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
