Game Plan

Holy Moley! What to say after that?

If you want to blame umpires then you're dreaming boys.

Today was the third full game I've seen this year.

Seems to be kick long to contest and kick wide then scrap like hell with the object of forcing a goal. The past 3 years the losses have not seemed so utterly despairing because at least there was some system, some spread not simply kick the ball long and wide to contest. Melbourne tried hard today and still lost. Bulldogs made us look better that what we were. Bulldogs were in fact ordinary. Sorry boys this is the way it was and I am passionate red and blue.

If anyone is satisfied with today then culture of losing will remain for many years.

Melbourne need some leadership of the ilk of Judd (for next year) and 2 more gun players and possibly a coach.

Recruiting has always been poor as well as players we have let go.

Lots more I could say. So many mistakes. Where to from here?

Perhaps an overall lift from every player and a review of the Game plan.

Hawthorn would of beaten MFC by over 100 points today. Bulldogs are bad.

Dees can recover. Hard to take though. Lost for answers.

Stop worrying about pot hills in the road and enjoy the journey might be a start for our Melbourne boys

Geez, none of that has been covered in the many many posts on Demonland over the last few weeks.

Our gameplan appears one dimensional does it? Our skills are poor? We need new leaders? Wow, groundbreaking stuff there pantsman. You should be on the coaching panel.

I don't think anyone is satisfied with the loss.

But there are signs not seen before of a preparedness to do the team oriented things. and go in harder. Theres a nice start we didn't do before across the whole team.

What happened to natural instinct, hunger for the pill, working hard for your team mates and beating your opponent. Seems like neeld has sucked the life out of us. There seems to be little belief. To much structure will kill natural talent. Bailey was all about belief, neeld is all about structure. We needed a smooth transition. ATM, neeld has a lot to answer for. If we don't win games and soon, he will be under enormous pressure. He is responsible for getting the most out of each player, developing them and the team into a side that wins. Our players look like they have gone backwards. Last year, jamar was hitting moloney 5 times a game, they were the best clearance duo in the league. Now, we look like plodders. Slow, unskilled, uncertain, and lacking belief.

The buck stops with neeld. Do not let him off the hook by always blaming the players.

Neeld is responsible. We nearly made finals last year. It was the lack of a defensive game that got Bailey fired.

I want to coach. Firstly, I would have played pettered and couch.

Secondly teach the players how to kick a drop punt straight, and how to handball the pill at least 2 metres to a player on our team!!!!!!!!

If anyone thinks our "game plan" is to just whack it on the boot and kick down the line on the wings/flanks they have rocks in their heads. Do you really think Neeld, Craig and the rest of our team of coaches are telling the players "get in there, win the contest and then bang it on your boot as quick as possible without looking"? Our players do this because they panic, because they are trying to become accustomed to a new style of play and because they are put under the pump by lousy disposal from teammates.

Bartram on 774 after the game indicated they had KPI's they were looking at (like every team would) and they are focussed on the process at this stage rather than the outcome. You take care of the porcesses and the outcome will take care of itself. Neeld is trying to implement a game plan but is doing it step by step. Step one is to win contested possessions and teach a more accountable and defensive side to our game (something we have been crying out for for 20 years). Step two is to get our defensive structures right (forward press) something we saw implemented quite well in patches tonight. Once we get these things right (and it will probably take all or most of 2012) then we move on to implementing the attacking/offensive side of our game.

As much as it is painful 2012 is another "development" year. We will not win many games. We will finish in the bottom 4. I am not happy about this but really how many sides turn everything around in one off season after sacking their coach the year before especially after losing by 31 goals only 10 games ago. If we can keep improving our defensive game and have it down pat by the end of 2012 with a view to implementing the offensive game plan over the next summer and into 2013 I will be happy.

On top of all this we are still one of the least fit teams in the league and will take another one or two pre-seasons until we are we need to be fitness wise to be able to compete with the top sides.

So you want the coaches to instill belief over structures but also want the defensive game plan that Bailey lacked implemented?

How did "instilling belief" go for Bailey? A: 186.

Sorry Dr G but I've been watching "developing years" for way too long, is this what we have developed into? A team of players who can't kick, run, or hand ball?

It's bazaar and embarrassing that the skill level and anticipation of players who were fair to good last year are now absolutely below vfl level, maybe even auskick?

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
