hahahaha - loved the bit about publishing his name on their website - LMAO - want it on facebook & twitter too.

You are so good at English - What does the word quit mean? What does the word poached mean? Read AMac comments

Cant remember the last time someone referred to our list as "talent laden" - well not around here.

What does an "opposition analyst" actually do in AFL football circa 2012?

Would you remind me how you obtain players in the recruiting process circa 2012 ( Hint trade, for picks or players, or recruit 18 YO - free agency)

Yip I will be happy to stand by my contention - the job is pivotal circa 2012.

a/ he is going to gain an intimate knowledge of the Carlton list - he is coaching them on opposition weakness & strengths

b/ he is going to gain an intimate knowledge on every teams list in the AFL - Carlton do play everyone once dont they?

c/ he has a recruiting background - has an intimate knowledge on every under 18 kid in the system

WHERE DO WE SIGN THIS BLOKE?

But go ahead - believe Range Rover Demonland guru - I dont care.

So he's going to do all of this in the future but you want to sign him now before he does; is that right?

He has had such an intimate knowledge of the U18 competition that he didn't even bother to have an interview with probably the best player in the 2009 draft even though he had first dibbs at him. He recruited some of the more ordinary players at Melbourne when he had the chance to pick up some exceptional talent. Yeah where do we sign him; anywhere but at Melbourne that's where.

No problem you are entitled too your opinion - Obviously the AFL football club Carlton dont agree with you - but hold that opinion of yours.

What would Carlton know they are only sitting on top of the ladder, unbeaten, smash a team that smashes us (twice), premiership joint bookie fav's, geez they must be doing something right.

- I think I might listen to the boys at Carlton - hope that does not offend you.

Mate I dont care what his name was but if he had a skill set like that I would want to talk to him - especially on the eve of

a/ the best draft in modern history &

b/ the introduction of Free Agency

But you listen to RR - he reckons you "sack/get rid" of these types of blokes.

publish his name on their website.

CFC heavies - are "strongly" considering posting his "phantom drafts" on their website in future just FYI.

They have asked could you do the same just to prove how much more you know. Since you seem to know everything about football sure you will be happy to go first.

Rumours are BP inside contacts are pretty good - you better be on your A-game.

I'm backing BP irrespective where he is - but give it a crack yourself - should be fun.

2009 wasn't a bad draft but he sure as hell stuffed that up, but you keep on getting impressed by the fact that he was still employable after the disasters he bestowed upon us. I guess one thing, he will learn by his mistakes and there have been plenty of them.

Perhaps Carlton are getting ready for their next tilt at tanking, BP will be a great help for them there.

By now, enjoy the Blue Baggers (as opposed to Carpet Baggers) site and don't forget to close the door on your way out we don't want to lose anymore of the superstar drafting team we have at Melbourne.

Who's given/ing up.

Were just beginning, but I want to ensure we start to change the Clubs Off field cultures.

The ones which hamper our kids growth, the ones which get our kids ahead of themselves, the ones which turn them out as choirboys, the ones which keep us all in a perpetual motion of soft & flashy football without substance or grit.

This is what I Don't want brushed yet again under the Long Room Rug.

Otherwise we'll just continue going round in circles until we eventually fold.

I was just having a small joke dee-luded.

I think the last 3 weeks have been hard to take for all of us and we are all getting very edgy.

Lets all relax a little.

PS Hope you can see the joke. Tell if you cannot I will try harder next time

Thats quite an interesting comment. Are you suggesting Carlton will pull out all the tricks to get the job done - I would be suggesting "who in the whole league" would be safe if they wanted them.

But surely you would need a quality opposition analyst to compare what you have to what is on offer? Especially one that is well-respected in the industry.

Dont know if you will like this reply. But I dont want to be accused of "carpet bagging" another thread - as funny/strange as it may sound I respect that opinion - plus you and me are "cross-thread" chatting.

Happy to take it up in the Dennis Cometti thread - probably only you & me are ever likely to read that again. (hehehehe)

Cheers

Since when has ruining a thread concerned you ? More likely is that you have a glass jaw.

I was more concerned about repeating myself. The "Dennis" thread already contains many/most of your answers - hopefully you would have at least read that thread. "quick skim" - or confess to "not reading" - your words not mine

Once we have determined that you have read the whole thread & the reference article. We have a starting point. Then you can "name names" which you seem to interestingly ignore - Your "top 5 draft picks" that are gold - the offer is still there.

The "glass jaw" - "rocks in their head" - "gene short of a moron" - "You really have no clue" - comments I will just ignore and say its par for the course around here.

See you in the "Dennis" thread or I understand.

Don't take my comment as a bad mannered slight to you.

It was just a comment that its business as usual for our list & recruiting dept, IMO.

I'm OK with what we've achieved on our list. We could have done better by now, & we could have recruited worse. I can see the talent, & I think all the postors were happy generally with most of our picks at the draft table.

Afterwards, re their development, thats another story.

So stay cool re the comment, it was nothing more than the job goes on sort of thing. Not a barb.

Hopefully with BP's knowledge of our gun recruits he picked we can have another Brock situation, well that is yet to be noted as a win for us as yet with Jordie... BUT he has more potential at this stage than Brock.

With free agency, the opposition analyst position does have an overlap with recruiting and list management.

Pre-free agency he also had an very important overlap - just some clubs recognised it more than others.

With the advent of free agency the overlap is even greater. Now you have to work out where the "potential FA sits on your list comparing his weakness & strengths" very similar to the trade process.

Wonder if we will see more movement because the FA's preferred location/club dont actually have to pay the compensation? I'm not saying it will happen overnight - but I wonder long-term when club get their heads around it.

Geez I have a feeling in my guts the "opposition analysis guy" - might just turn out to be very pivotal to AFL clubs success circa 2012.

Just a thought.

PS - Imagine you could find one that new all the 18YO kids as well - geez worth his weight in gold I'd say.

PSS - Imagine "if he was really respected in the industry" (what did AMac say again) when it actually comes down to the wheeling and dealing & had the resources you could get the "job done" - geez worth his weight in gold I'd say - plus some.

Ohhhhh - thats right RR reckons you "tap" those blokes on the shoulder and tell them to FO - I dont think so.

It's win win really. The blues get their man and Neeld gets to install his recruiting man. Everyone's a winner

Exactly, they get a guy who is intimate with all the under 18 kids in the draft, so what? Revolutionary stuff.

The current recruiting department at Carlton would be as well so what's the big deal? Wonder if they bothered to interview Martin in 2009 and I wonder if they asked BP why he didn't?

Let's hope that Carlton don't try to latch on to all the A Grade players BP recruited for us.

Yeah my point is losing BP is no win for us circa 2012. RR contention was " an "opposition analyst" gig at Carlton, which let's face it is really just a glorified number-cruncher," - (cough cough)

This has been answered a 1000 times - but you wont listen. Just like you dont know what BP's new role at Carlton would be, just like you dont know the true value of BP.

You have your head stuck in the sand.

All we can hope for is that he gives them 4 years just like he's given us.

BTW Why are you still here, I thought you'd made you point and was going to scurry back to carlton to see if there are any brown paper bags that need delivering.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
