I'm giving the other 6 votes to the lovely pair of shoes I bought today, they deserve them more. They are pretty and make me happy

Sorry Sloonie but as much as I love Howey he was very ordinary today, could not stick a tackle. Really needs some adjustment time at Casey but there are about another 15 or so in front of him there.

6. Clark, for the goals he pulled out of his arse. He sure as hell can't pluck a thing out of the air.

5. Magner, for the hundreds of times he dove in for the ball, and for his disposal by foot, which was amongst the best in the side.

4. Jones, for the things he does every single week, but that nobody else in the side seems to want to emulate

3. Bate, for coming on and extracting the ball, running hard back and forward, and kicking it long and straight to targets. Contributed at least three goals in his limited time on the ground.

2. Dunn, for providing a bit of a forward option. Honestly though, he should have done more, as should everyone.

1. Howe, for giving us some leading options up the ground and for working hard back and forward most of the day. Again, made a hell of a lot of errors and goes the big leap too often.

Magner 6

Clark 5

Jones 4

Howe 3

Trengove 2

Frawley 1

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
