Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Supporter Alliance - Sponsorship

Recommended Posts

This is an idea I have had for a while, if you think it's rubbish that's fine but I just want to put it out there following the events of today.

I know a lot of us out there have put a lot of our own hard earned money into the Melbourne Football Club through memberships and the recent Debt Demolition. However, I am proposing a "Supporter Alliance" whereby we supporters donate money (however little) under this banner and sponsor the club. The money wouldn't be anywhere near what the club will have lost from "that company" but at the very least it is a sign of support

Again, I fully understand that many people feel they have given their fair share and that's fine, if you feel that way please just keep those thoughts to yourself. This is an opportunity to support (figuratively and financially) the club on top of memberships other areas, even if what is raised is just a small donation (not a "sponsorship" as such), the club needs some good news after all that it has been dragged through recently.

As a starting point, I am willing to donate $200 to get the ball rolling. Any thoughts or suggestions please let me know, if it is a rubbish idea I will just donate the money privately and you can lock the thread.

I like the idea, but it does sort of smack of desperation.

And ultimately I'm sure they could easily sign 2 sponsors for more than we could tip in. CS is just holding out for the right sponsors at the right price.

Not sure how this would work from a pragmatic or legal point of view, or how it would work ongoing? Who takes ownership of this "sponsorship" form the supporter side?

Doesn't donating money/buying additional memberships to the club achieve exactly the same aim for all intents and purposes? Surely the club would be better served in seeking out external corporate sponsorship as to an extent, money from the supporters will always be there.

Don't mean to be a naysayer and I like the thought behind it, just not sure how practical it is.

Like the idea Clint as long as it is done through the club.

I also want some assurance that the club is going to get itself in order. This week has been very concerning.

If we have hit rock bottom, great. But if it is still free fall, throw it all out first.

I am still trying to find out how EW makes $$$, i applauded Cameron at the time, yes. But the company was always a dodgy affair.

I already do - it's called membership

Well, you get something for that.

As an MCC member, my MFC membership doesn't allow me to go to games, but it does give me ownership of the club and that let's me opine on matters.

I will buy an interstate membership for my missus, a 3-game membership for the hell of it, and possibly a $200 raffle ticket.

Great sentiments, CB. But I would just give straight to the club.

I will happily match you - if 5-6 posts you have double it. Great idea. Count me in for $200.00 PM if we can work out the best way to kick this along.

Cheers

I'm an interstate member - it's a donation

Incongruous sentence.

Gives you ownership over the club, and gives value to your voice so that you can be taken as a serious Demon and comment on Schwab, sponsors, et al, and if you get to Melbourne - entrance to a game...

Membership is more than just a ticket to a game.

Please delete this thread, was a silly idea.

No, it wasn't.

And I wish the club had a Support Alliance Donation Tally on the website to show how much we give beside our membership dues.

That's a good idea, I like that. That's all I was after really, by "sponsorship" it really was just a donation but under the "Supporter Alliance" banner to highlight the support for the club.

Clint, I like this idea. It's not stupid at all. Working it out might take a bit.

My thinking would be something similar to how the club did Debt Demolition.

A site like that (possibly the same one), if we can raise (let's say $5,000) then maybe the club will let us feature a "Supporter Alliance" (name can be changed) logo on the sponsor page of the site. Even if enough money isn't raised the club still keeps it. Again, it's a sign of support and trying to generate something good for what has been a month of pain.

CB, you've inspired me to do that just then.

$215 worth of donation and another $200 worth of 'probable donation.'

My credit card is a little sore but that is life - proper action requires sacrifice. Those four words have been ringing in my ear this year...

It's a great idea Clint. I already donated $400 to the Club earlier today ($100 for each member in our family). I think a Supporter Alliance tally board on the official site would be fantastic. It would never rival a business sponsorship but it would show everyone we are a Club of the members and supporters.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
