Yes folks it's that time of year. Saw on 'on the couch' tonight that mikes top 50 will be out soon and just saw robbos top 10 on twitter.

For those who like to have a bit of fun and healthy debate let's go top 5 in afl and top 5 at the dees (in order)

For mine:

AFL

1.Franklin

2.Pendlebury

3.Ablett

4.Judd

5.Cox

Dees:

1.Moloney

2.Frawley

3.Trengove

4.Jamar

5.Jones or possibly Mitch Clark

I have left number 5 vacant, as I think there are a lot of players that are fighting for that spot, including Trengove, Jones and Garland. I can't put Clark in our top 5 yet.

The 2014 MFC Top 5 could be an interesting list, with players like Howe, Watts, Tapscott, possibly Viney (hoping he may have an impact similar to how Selwood did in his first season or 2 at Geelong), as well as the players mentioned above.

Judd.

Franklin.

Bartel.

Hodge.

And if the game was in the balance and something had to happen .... Bartel would be the man .

Franklin- Unstoppable when on and can single handedly destroy teams and win games

Ablett- See above

Pendlebury

Judd- Still rate him higher than Murphy because he does it with 3 blokes hanging off his back

Hodge- Another who when he is fit is almost unstoppable

And for the Dees i have tried to go with our top 5 most critical to success:

Jamar

Frawley

Clarke

Sylvia

Moloney

Surprising seeing how the reigning Brownlow Medallist makes so few of these lists...

Not really.

Johnathon Brown.

Wayne Carey.

No brownlows there but at their peak they had no peer.

Swanny was extremely consistent but if all 5 or 6 of the best were playing at their peak, I believe other players ate ahead of him.

IMO, he gets a lot of the ball, which attracts the umpires' attention, but is far less damaging with it than any of those players mentioned. Very rarely able to change the trajectory of a game off his own back.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
