Actually it does, the priority pick at that stage was awarded to teams winning less that 5 1/2 games. Bulldogs, Carlton and The Demons were awarded priority picks in the 2003 draft with which Cooney, Andrew Walker & Sylvia were selected.

That means that the PPs, for all intents and purposes, are at the discretion of the Commission.

Make the formula public and introduce a lottery system for all teams outside the eight.

Surely Port deserve one if they have an awful season. Stuck at the bottom through two compromised drafts as the two new clubs pick up all the guns.

It's a travesty of justice for Port Adelaide - they've been royally shafted if they win less than 5 this year. The AFL should have kept it as-is for one more year.

The Fs dont make sense when you see what we have in return. And you dont know how they will turn out at this stage? If we got nought for Scully and McLean then its an F.

How can Sylvia be a B and Morton a D??? Both have underdelievered to date. Col has just done it longer complete with off field stupidity. It says alot about a player who is in his 9th year and is still talked of "potential". Has yet to put in place one solid high performance year to date.

Its too early to make a call on Watts and Trengove...although there is deifinite upside.

Absolutely shafted. AFL will have to make a "special case" for Port IMO if they perform as expected.

The last club to earn a priority pick before the start of the national draft was Melbourne in 2009 when it selected Tom Scully, now with Greater Western Sydney, after successive years of three wins (2008) and four wins.

Confused- how can pick 1 still be called pick 1 if it's not the first pick? The priority is in essence pick 1 and pick 1 is the second pick.

PPs come before the first round.

In 2007 Carlton finished 15th and Richmond finished 16th and last. Carlton won less than 5 games 2 years in a row so qualified for the PP before the 1st round. So the pick order was"

1 - PP - Carlton - Kruezer

2 - 16th - Richmond - Cotchin

3 - 15th - Carlton traded to West Coast in the Judd deal - Masten

4 - 14 th - Melbourne - Morton

Richmond qualified for a PP at the start of the 2nd round - pick 18 - Rance
