Leadership group announced; Grimes and Trengove co-captains

Good stuff for the club and supporters and going forward.

Would never have thought of Barty and Col Grland in the leaders goup. Or Maloney not being there.

Well times are a changing, all great thus far.

Congrats guys and good luck.

My take on this is that the older guys apart from being part of a misfiring leadership group could not have been retained in a group which had Grimes & Trengove as Captains.

Congrats to both boys, they are both well suited to the role. The leadership group is a clear statement to move on and I think that is fair enough after last years debacle.

Yes, and safe at the same time.

Yep, was thinking the same, sometimes playing it safe is the riskiest thing of all to do.

Love the decision, sounds in a new era.

I personally think Jack Grimes has not done enough on-field to warrant being named a Captain. He must be an impressive personality so good Luck to him.

Congratulations to both Jack Trengove and Jack grimes. 2 Half back flankers.

Grats to all.

What I love is that only Jones and Grimes has survived the absolute leadership debacle that was 2011.

Completely agree.

BLOODY BRILLIANT!

Love this choice (as an outsider). Both these guys can take us all the way into our premiership window and beyond.

VERY exciting!

The only option for captaincy really.

Glad to see a few of our last 'leaders' missing from the leadership group. Congrats to Bartram in particular.

Love 'em both.....I feel a bit emotional...... one a lifetime Demon, the other, Mister Loyalty !

Great moves and congratulations to the new leadership group. Not surprised Green, Davey and Rivers werent there. Well done Barty.

Maybe he bleeds red and blue that much that he sacrificed the role thinking that there were better candidates

I have always wondered which MFC players dont bleed red and blue.

I guess it shows the real worth of whatever bleeding red and blue means.

Maybe Moloney was not chosen to be in the leadership group...period.

it's bold!

it's not a big leap to expect similar big changes in selection

Very pleased with the co-captains. Not a fan of the concept in general, but think we had no other good options in this case. Really pumped for the two guys. I wonder if (or when?) we'll see a single appointment in the future?

What makes me most happy though is the complete overhaul of the leadership group. Jamar is the only "old" player in the group (unless you count Jones) - and all the young players who you'd hope would be there are, but more tellingly the players who have failed us as leaders are gone. Brutal, but I couldn't be happier.

Very Interesting on a number of levels.

- Was not going to happen till close to the NAB cup. What happened between wednesday night and mid friday approx. 36 hours!

- Not surprised at the co captains but leadership group is a shock.

- most from last year gone, is this the result of the geelong disaster week?

- Trengrove may well be captain for the majority of 2012

- would appear Green and Davey are on the way out unless they have stellar years.

- to all the Bartram haters " can we now lay off him" Neeld and company think a lot more of him than lots on here.

- the new FD has made a big statement IMO, the future is these guys.

- Neeld said we would not die wondering looks like he really meant it.

Interesting to see how the dropped group handle it particularly Maloney

2012 was always going to interesting but this increases the level.

Is it possible that this announcement was somewhat sprung upon us to ensure that Trenners was indeed the 'youngest captain ever' and therefore thereby receive increased media coverage? I haven't done the sums but seems possible...

As much being said about the club at the moment by the list of names left out of the leadership group IMO. No Davey, Beamer or Green (in particular) sends a message to those players specifically and to the younger players coming through. This announcement marks a genuine generational shift at the club and I think its a bloody good thing.

Something said previously about Beamer perhaps not wanting to be in the leadership group rings a little true. I don't know why, his omission is very notable and needs to be explained (not publicly, just in my mind).

Overall very happy with this appointment. I can't help but think on Trapper and that pick 14... thanks Brisbane, you handed us our co-captain.

I dont see Rivers in the leadership because of the onfield leadership traits he displays

For what reason? I thought Riv was getting back to some of his best form last year, albeit his disposal was average sometimes but other than that I though he took some telling defensive marks.

I won't hijack this thead, I'll reply in another thread next week rather than take this one off topic further than I already have.

Neeld seems to be making a big statement here, that this is his team now and he doesn't care the slightest about what has happened in the past before he arrived, and maybe that attitude will be good for a playing group needing a fresh start, but at the same time, it could affect individual players badly. I just can't help wondering how Beamer would feel being rated as less of a leader than Bartram or Garland after winning the b+f and getting the most brownlow votes of any Demon. If you read Martin Flanagan's pieces about the Dees last year, he was wholly convinced that Moloney was the playing group's heart and soul. I also wonder whether Clark deserves this before stepping onto the field once for us.

I also worry about what that kind of attitude could mean for a Jack Watts or an Aaron Davey. I don't want to see Wattsy dropped to Casey if he has one bad week so he can get [censored] from suburban footy fans and be the opportunity of a lifetime for some hack defender to prove themselves each week. I also don't want to see Aaron Davey handled in a way that could destroy whatever is left of his confidence.

I know we all want to believe that our new coach is the messiah who will lead us to the promised land, but I have to say that this decision has me a at least slightly concerned about his attitudes about himself and the playing group.

I won't hijack this thead, I'll reply in another thread next week rather than take this one off topic further than I already have.

Note Thomo, the Locker Room is open for discussion on past & present players. You could start one there, preventing any derailment of any other topic.

Well...am still not a fan at allof Co-Captains but hearty congratualtions to both. Both are well deserving candidates for the role even if I have some misgivings about Grimes ability to stay on the paddock ( I surely hope he can )

Go Dees

Bartram, while I love his endeavor, would be struggling to hold his place in the team wouldnt he?

Clearly not, The club rates him a lot more highly than people here. Check the B& F results.

Interesting selections all round, and time will tell if it's a grat choice.

I wish all leaders at the Club the best of luck. Let's hope our holding of a pair of Jacks turns out to be a great pair of Aces.

Great news about the Jack's! Strange with Moloney but I think these fairly useless tittles of 'Leadership group' shouldn't faze him. He is a natural leader and our best on field leader. Kind of similar to Dane Swann being left out of COllingwoods.

Havent been a huge fan of the co-captaincy (but probably because its been a St.Kilda thing) all in all a good ploy tho....means we,ll always have a captain on the field..... Captain Jack it is then!!

I think he would be happy if you could just learn to spell his f&(*&(*& name.

Good point jnrmac.

my excuse is i am trying to squeeze it in between work emails.

thought you would have picked up the wrong spelling of Trengove.

Oh well seems we can all make mistakes.
