I'm really interested as well. Didn't play last year but have played this format before. Any spots available? Or does anyone wanna make another league?

We await for JA to again organize the drafts / league etc.

Quite gracious of him, considering a tiny little baby Jackattack... or perhaps Jackattackette will mean JA's time will be quite valuable these days.

Maybe more than one mod this time to help out if you need it? I put my vote in for OMR.

Amen. Looked like carnage for JA so I'd be more than happy to help out JackA if I can in any capacity!

Appreciate the offer, I'll yell out if I need a hand. The UFooty stuff kinda runs itself but some help on this forum might help to spread the load. We'll see how it unfolds.

Thanks, the MFCs newest member; 'Viney', is doing quite well despite her mum's persistence in calling her by some other name.

Congratulations on the new addition JA & Uncle Dappa

Like DL7 if I am able to assist I am more than happy to offer my services.

My biggest concern in 2012 for UF is being in The States for 6 weeks from start of April.

Free Wi Fi was high on the agenda for all accomadation so I will still be all over UF & SC.

However Mrs OMR might get suspicious when I am lying on the Waikii beach LapTop in hand waiting

for one of you blokes to accept or reject my latest Trade Offer.

Early March is my Vote for Draft Day.

Any day but the 11th of march, will be grooving to Swedish house mafia

Congrats JA on little JA'ette. Jacqueline ? ...in keeping with the Jack theme... :) And congrats to Uncle Dappa.

Don't answer that. Looking forward to UF. DL_7 must be hot favourite after his barnstorming finish in '11. Pressure is on DL_7 ;)

Congrats JA and mum. I'm tripping he'll be on the trade table mid yr. After many sleepless nights, I'm sure uncle Dan will make a decent offer.

Once I set up the league and we get everyone registered I'll start proposing dates for the draft.

My experience from running a few drafts now is that a live draft with 1 minute between picks is the best way. And unless the system has changed I don't believe it is possible to split the draft over 2 nights. With 1 minute intervals the draft will probably run for 2-3 hours and the first hour is really the part you want be there for.

The reality is that we will never be able to get 16 people available at one time for the draft but I will do my best to accommodate as many as I can.

Wouldn't be "Benjamin" would it?

I was on a cruise ship paying 36 cents a minute, at 5am to be involved in draft day last year. Gotta want it OMR... Gotta want it.

JCBwhom is currently suspended.

Oh jeez... what did the little scallywag do this time? :)

Congrats JA on little JA'ette. Jacqueline ?

If it wasn't fo rthe fact there was a Jacqui in the family already, I'm sure he'd have made that happen.

Pressure is on DL_7 ;)

He's the hunted.

Ufooty website is open, class of 2011 will have a PM with login details.

A few changes for this year, check out some of the rules i set and the draft date, these details can be changed before the season starts so now is the time to discuss them.

Highlight of the new additions for this year for me is a slightly different category scoring system I recommended to the site admin guy. Frees for and frees against will be combined into a frees differential, effectively halving their importance and reducing the league to 8 categories.

More later, after my aftrnoon nap (those who have had a baby will understand).

Get on it!

Wait. 8 categories? Are we sure we want to do that? I love that frees are combined. Big fan of that. But 8 categories, not so sure... Can there be any other stat included? Buggered if I know what one.

And massive list this year. 4 backs and forwards and 5 centres? Love that there's more centres than B and Fs... but that's gonna make for more work. In one sense, well done, rewards people who look for the diamonds in the rough, but creates that much more work if you want to fine-tune your list.

I'm 50-50 on that since it gives idiot savants like you more of an adbnvantage.

Posted

Oh one other thing... The draft order. There was some talk of it being in reverse order of results last year, 18th-1st... then the reverse of THAT order 1st-18th.... but then after that every round would be 18th-1st... I like that. Is that maybe going to happen?

Posted

Once again good work JA. Signed up as Wacko Jako. I'm with Dappa on the 8 categories thing - seems too easy for a draw to happen. Needs to be an odd number.

Reverse order for the draft from last years placings seems fair. Is it possible to allow some continuity with last years players? Ie maybe have 1 or 2 players from last years side that are able to kept on the list prior to the daft?

Posted

And not to add to the list of grievances but Thursday 7.30 I will be running around trying not to spew...

Anyone else have issue with that date?

Okay, a bit more of an explanation of my theory with the 8 category system, or the 7.5 system as I am calling it. Keep in mind that this system is something that I think is an improvement on the old 9 category system, but I am open to suggestions and if enough support is given to an alternative system I am happy to change it.

I apologise in advance for the next few paragraphs, it might seem overly complicated the way I explain it but it really is quite simple once you get your head around it.

Last year I heard 1 complaint over and over again; Frees (for and against). People don't like losing 5-4 when 3 of the categories they have lost have been FF,FA and Score%. So the website has added a 10th category this year that I can add when I set it all up: Frees Differential (self explanatory)

When I set it up I selected 8 categories; the 7 regulars (Kicks, Marks, Handballs, Tackles, Hitouts, Score and Score%) and instead of both frees for and against I selected frees differential.

Then to do away of the problem of 4-4 ties that would be all too common with 8 categories I have chosen to weight the Score% category at half the others. Meaning that if a game is tied the team that won the score% category loses. I did it this way because I feel like the score% category is a bit random and therefore a less 'important' stat. Hence the '7.5 category system'.

I actually did the weighting by giving a weight of 2 for all the other categories and 1 for score %. An alternative method I considered to deal with the possible tie problem would be to favour the score category more than the others. Meaning that if both teams win 4 categories the team that won score would take the win. If we wanted to get even more crazy, we could weight all categories completely differently. We could give the Score category say a weight of 10, kicks 6, marks 5 etc.

Let me know what you think.

In terms of the draft date; please post if there isn't a time that suits you and if there is a specific day or time that you think will work well then post that as well.

7:30 on a weekday is my suggestion because typically that is after dinner for me, but not too late so I can stay up to near the end.

I do as well. Is there any way we can hold a weekend draft? Sat or Sun evening?

I'm in Europe on an opposing timezone but have weekends totally free.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
