On top of this Telstra customers will receive access to watching every game live to mobile handset next season.

This looks good. Wont be as good quality as TV but cheaper than Foxtel if you have an iPad and you get the mobile iPad benefits in place of the Foxtel channels:

Im told that you can get Foxtel on Xbox, then for $19.50 a month you can watch the footy channel on your TV.

Xbox are $149 (Im told) at Harvey Norman, it has built-in Wi-fi and the d/l are about 800Mb per hour in high definition.

Thats $250 for April till August, all up. Hope its true as thats what i will be doing!

whoops plus $70 once a year for Xbox Live Gold.

I'm unconvinced that "AFL" channel in the "Get Started Package" is the new Foxtel AFL channel with live games

Let me know what you find out.

See this link for T-box and Foxtel:

http://telstra.com.a...-tbox/packages/

Looks like $19.50 + $10 and it's not clear whether the Sport package gives you the Foxtel AFL channel with live games either

I bought a Tbox yesterday. Pretty happy with it so far but it's only been set up for 15 hours.

According to the AFL's broadcast guide all games will be live on Tbox

http://www.afl.com.a...51/default.aspx

$300 up front and the only costs from then are for movie rentals and $30/month during footy season for foxtel. Long term I think it has to be the cheapest way. Plus you get internet channels including Deetv.

Edit: Forgot to mention, instead of the $300 upfront you can go on a plan and pay monthly. I think she said it was $11p/m but I'm not 100% sure.

and presumably you also have to have a Telstra ISP Broadband package

No DC. If you have a Telstra ISP Broadband package then the d/l are free.

If you have a different ISP you are taxed on the d/l. I believe its about 800Mb per hour Hi-def, 400 Standard def..

You dont need Xbox live Gold, only silver (FREE).

It's approx 1.2 GB per game in HD as you can switch off your bandwidth at QTR/HALF time. If your internet is through bigpond, streaming will be free.

This really is a great option on the cheap and you get an xbox out of it. Winner Winner Chicken Dinner.

I have FOXTEL on Xbox. You need Xbox Live GOLD to watch FOXTEL channels on an Xbox. You can buy Pay Per View titles with Xbox Live Silver. I dont know where you get those streaming figures for HD but they seem very low. An hour of SD streaming on an Xbox is about 800MB.

I have said my piece on Foxtel before, basically I agree with DC.

I will add that I hope those with Foxtel also have health insurance, otherwise I can suggest a better way of spending that money...

So Big Red do you think it is worth going with the Foxtel on Xbox to watch the AFL?

Depends if you have the bandwidth and data to spare...

Big Red,

Sorry mate, as I have only ever watched Pay Per View. And the figures were for a 2 hour movie - approx 1.2 gig. I dont know much about bandwidth but could your provider/wireless or cable make a difference?

OK. What effective broadband speed do you need for smooth video

I'm on adsl2+ but I get nowhere near max bandwidth despite being close to exchange (plus I have to share with my wife most times)

I've also found Telstra video to be problematic. I don't want start/stop, buffering issues

Im not sure DC but the X-Box at Harvey Norman for $149 seems to be a great deal anyway.

Ive got iPrimus 80 Gb per month and my d/l speed is anywhere from 50kb - 400Kb per second so i will using standard definition to watch a game rather than Hi-def.

I must admit all these unknown possible problems have got me a bit leery. I will probably give it a try but it may well be the Elsternwick pub yet again for those few matches that this would all be in aid of.

Thanks Franky. Let us know what results you get if you give it a try-out.

FOXTEL on Xbox channels are currently only in Standard Definition so I assume the Footy will be the same. The service is unmetered with BigPond which I used to have. I currently run it off an iiNet plan metred but have 100GB on/100GB off which seems to suit it fine.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
