Training - Friday 9th December, 2011

Anyone see how the new recruits went. Especially interested in James Sellar? Also Dan005 you said that Clark kicked a goal or two... did he look like a natural forward? like leading to the right areas, good marking and second efforts.

Cheers guys for the reports!

Don't worry about Clark 'looking' like a natural forward. He certainly is one. I believe that last year at Brisbane there is a stat something along the lines of he had the most score involvements of anyone in the team last year (ie involved in the passage of play) or they went through him the most or something like that.

It's more about our ability to get it to him frequently enough.....

I notice a few posters mentioning a guy called Maloney- is he one of the permission to train people?

Better check with Face plant.

don't bother H_T he can't spell.

It's odd.

Yeah, it's never a "fitness cardinal" or a "fitness mufti". They must all be Hindu.

Thanks guys.

Looking forward to seeing the new kids on the block in 2012. You know....Maloney, Fitzgerald, Bleeze, Pettard, Trengrove and see what coach Nark Meeld has to offer....

Now let's not get precious!

I happen to be an aspiring 'fitness Pope,' so there you go. Or maybe I should be an 'exercise Rabbi' instead. Choices, choices.

How do these 3 x 1k time trials work?

I run more than 3k every morning and I can do it no sweat. Do they run flat out?

it's not about 'making the distance', its about doing it quickly. How quickly do you do your 3km. If you do it over 10 minutes then its really nothing to gloat about

Fark, congrats on the in-joke. Welcoming lot you are.

Demons tweeting about training:

Sam Blease:-

@m_quattrocchi battled away but improving every session, fittest I've ever been, alot more work to do.

James Sellar:-

Big day of training at @melbournefc capped off a great week of training for the boys... Couple of hours tomoz morning then a quiet weekend..

Some of us are bitter and twisted- and the rest are certifiable.

So how was training? Does anyone have any decent info? Sounds like they had a full on day but the sounds of Trengove, Frawley, Sellar, Blease...

The goal I saw Clark get was with him running back with the flight of the ball into the square, still impressive, but no, it wasn't the straight forward lead and mark. Having said that, it was very congested in the match simulation with all the players in only one half of the ground. It was more about stoppages than goal scoring.

I am not writing off Davey, just commenting on what I noticed, its good he is with the main group, guess thats a step in the right direction.

Oh, and welcome Faceplant, don't let any snide comments get to you, the more the merrier on here I say.

Cheers mate, appreciate it, and the other welcomes as well. Might change my name though, looks like it's gonna get me into trouble.

Great reports coming through this place.

Thanks Dan005. Sounds good with Clark running back with flight of the ball, shows dedication and he's brave.

Although he has the most scoring involvements what we need in Melbourne is a KPF who can consistently kick multiple goals a game. Hopefully Watts or Howe can turn into a CHF marking the ball around the wings or centre square, both have good decision making and have better kicking efficiency compared to the rest of the team so hopefully good distribution to jurrah, clark or green who can stay inside 50. Last year our game plan was flawed, regularly relying on running back with the flight, very poor.

Yes it is.

If you can do 3km in 12 mins you are a fit young man.

If you can do it in 10 mins you are an elite runner.

Holy jumpin' jellybabies. I can do 1 km in 12 mins. That's walking and a little jogging, but then I give those blokes 50 years start.

Nah leave it. It's all good. What started as a light hearted post regarding spelling errors of players names is all a little too much for some. You will soon see a lot of instances of such examples I listed in your reading. Welcome and enjoy.

Name change is optional but I reckon most of the blokes are happy with the avatar.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Geelong

It’s been a season of grit, growth, and glimpses of brilliance—mixed with a few tough interstate lessons. Now, with finals looming, the Dees head to Kardinia Park for one last tune-up before the real stuff begins.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
