Colin in the news

Precious? You lot really confuse me sometimes.

You cry when an outsider has a pot shot at us, yet when one of our own transgress it's just water off a ducks back, isn't it?

A minor reflection on our club still damages. I want more from us then what is expected out of St Kilda, Carlton etc.

If you want to be ignorant that's your prerogative. I have stated how I feel on the issue and I'll leave it at that.

I don't buy that this reflects badly on the footy club. What's the brand damage to the MFC? I put it to you that there is none.

An individual employee, in their private time, is involved in an incident.

It may reflect on Colin, but I don't buy that it reflects on the MFC.

Sloonie, stop being so precious. Colin went out with friends, he did not drink or drive.

The reflection on the club is minor

From the HUN: "Sources said he had spent the night enjoying drinks and watching television with the friend." On what do you base your knowledge that he did not drink?

He certainly did drink otherwise he would have been driving...

It was his BMW.

Oh, well done Colin - you didn't drink and drive!!

Now if we can just get you to not commit to things you don't care about and not leave the scene where your car damages property - you'll be coming along nicely!

Hey Sloonie I understand your confusion. My view is different people have different perspectives on these kinds of issues which can be entwined and cause us all confusion.

1. The Circus - From the furthest out this incident is reported in the media as irresponsible and us fans feel other supporters mocking us (as we would mock other clubs fans if the situation was reversed) and worry it might put some prospective fans off. My view on this is that the media generally slant things to the negative because this allows then to roll out an endless stream of editorials (judgements), as many have done here.

2. The Club - From the Club perspective incidents like this can be irrelevant (see Hawks win flag with Buddy or Eagles win flag with Benny) or detrimental (see Saints with Milne, what's her name, etc...). and us fans fear that these incidents are a sign of malase and ill discipline. My view on this is that footy clubs are institutions for young men and as such they have various internal methods to help keep their young men within a defined range of social behaviour, i.e. Todd Viney singles Sylvia out for a special training session or punishes the whole group to establish the behaviour... this is club business and I have no doubt the MFC is on top of this. This is private club business and should rarely be made public. I also think that a level of vibrancy in a group of young men is essential to have them bond and commit to the effort and dedication required to win a flag, and that some times these group bonds are formed with the assistance of alcohol..

3. The Individual - There are many reason why someone might get hammered, for example their girlfriend just dumped them, they are celebrating, what ever... Its not my business to judge and none of us know Colin well enough to do anything but gossip about him. Sometimes growing up can be hard.

Anyway, Bring on Pre-season and a big year from Colin. The torch is well and truely on him this year.

Sanctimonious tripe..... and mindless defence..... the whole discussion is an indicator of the void that the end of the season leaves in our lives.... and btw........ Anyone who quotes any newspaper in the 2000's as a fact base to support any argument, under any circumstances, wants their head read....

Those who love him leap in to defend, those who don't see it is as a sign of moral turpitude....

Me?.....I'll be interested to see what Sylvia says, whether the club requires an dressed up faux hand-wringing exercise a la Beamer.

Sources? The usual way newspapers get around it when they have no facts.

We don't know for sure if Colin was drinking, we don't know if the driver was drinking, but we can make some wild guesses I suppose.

Hardtack, I think WA might have meant 'drink & drive' instead of 'drink or drive'

Yes, and what a low bar Colin has to reach now...

"You went out drinking before IR training and couldn't drive your own car home and you left the scene after your car damaged property?"

"But you weren't driving!!"

"Who's a good boy?!"

"That's right, Colin is a good boy!"

Why do you say that he clearly was drinking? I don't drink at all but there are times when I can't be bothered driving and I will get my son to drive or my wife to drive. If Colin has a BMW the driver may have asked if he could have a drive, that happens when you have a good car.

Íf the driver was over .05 then Colin's insurer won't pay the repair costs of his vehicle nor will they pay the cost of replacing the pole or the damage to the mini that was in the car yard, so there will be a lesson for him there; if that's the case.

Yeah, I often let my friends drive my car when I'm sober... Get your head out of the sand!

I'm peeved that some people consider those that judge this as serious are being viewed as sanctimonious. So I want and expect a high level of conformity from our players- sue me! Let's see where turning a blind eye to these matters gets us.

Calm down rpfc. Being possibly over .05 the next morning is not necessarily being drunk or an indication of excessive drinking the night before, and therefore not driving is a reasonable sensible precaution.

We don't know how much he drunk. We don't know whether he had a sleep at his mates place, we don't know how long he hung around after the accident.

We do know his mate can't drive, we do know the press is so short of stories they would jump at anything and we do know Col is not the sharpest tool in the drawer..

But....you seem to know all the facts. I'd prefer to wait until more facts are available and I certainly wouldn't believe the first flush in the Hun.

Fortunately not everyon's you. As I said I let others drive my car and my previous cars whenevr they want because I simply don't like driving.

I wouldn't call you sanctimonious, oh hang on yes I would.

BTW Your registration doesn't cover third party property damage it cover bodily injury.

The facts are he couldn't drive his own car home because he was drinking the night before, and got kicked off the IR team for poor professionalism.

And I agree that these are minor indiscretions.

What I have a problem with are those that are simply excusing his behaviour entirely.

He's on his break. The IR means nothing. He wasn't driving home - he did the right thing. Why should he stick around for the police?

Call him an idiot and move on (that's all he is), but don't give him excuses.

Be interested in how Mark Neeld approaches a number of players now, namely: Col, Aaron, Brad, Cale to mention a few of the obvious ones.

What would you say (or do) to Colin if you were his coach?

Lets dismiss everything except for what we do know. He wasnt driving the car that was involved in an accident and both the driver and Sylvia left the scene. No law broken by Col but prima facie evidence of him being a goose. One must suspect if everything was kosher except the bad luck of having an accident he wouldnt have felt compelled to leave the scene.

So a quick straw poll ( and there will be a follow up question for all those who answer yes !) - Who has been involved in the sort of accident that has caused major damage ( like a power pole being knocked out) and has had both the passenger and the driver leave the scene ?

Are you saying you supported that debacle? think it made a difference? set us up for a great year didn't it....

That wasn't PR .... it was pathetic... making your vice captain "confess" to a binge drinking problem

....and in that case at least Moloney admitted he was out drinking hard in season....but the rumour mill (subsequently unfounded) was all around him urinating in a bar

Compared with this story...

You don't know that that he 'couldn't' drive his own car.

He could well have been under .05 but he was unsure, so he decided the safe option was to not drive. I'm sure players are instructed this way.

If you had 4 or 5 beers on Sat night over say 4 hours and a meal, would you be confident that you would be under .05 at 6am on Sun? I suggest you couldn't be sure and the recommended safe option would be to not take the chance.

Anyway this all conjecture, just hold your horses until you know a few facts.

And fortunately for me and many others on this site your narrow-minded views are inconsequential.

I'm not going to be drawn into another long winded argument with someone who is as arrogant and stubborn as you are. Your content need to get the last word in shows your maturity level.

As you would say- end of story.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
