The Tommy Walsh Thread

I saw a bit of Walsh pre-season, and he looks like he has real potential. He's a huge unit with massive physical presence. The only question is whether he can develop the skills he needs to succeed. I'd be very happy to have him at full forward just to monster the full backs and break packs open. If he brings his skills up to par he'll be a genuine gun.

can he take a grab? He needs to be more than just a big body.

I know it's a different game, but I went to the International Rules Game 2 un Dublin last year and the kid dominated. He was tall, fast had fantastic hands (must have taken 12-15 marks that night) and had a huge physical presence. I had to ask the Irish bloke in front of me who he was and when he told me it was Walsh I was very keen for us to have a crack but thought it would be impossible to get him considering how much potential he showed. Thought there would be no chance the Saints would let him go as I know they held him in pretty high regards. He was clearly bog that night and I think he led Chip a merry dance for a bit as well.

As I said, I know it's a different game but he's obviously shown something in the VFL and he's got huge wraps on him at the Saints. If we can get him somehow I would be all for it as he's exactly the type of player we need. I have no idea what type of pick Saints would want from him, but hopefully our 3rd would do the trick if he tells them he wants out. We'd be able to offer him more cash and with Jimmy at the club, surely he'd find it hard to say no.

We probably wouldn't lose too much if we offered what we get for Maric or take that pick from Dogs for Bate and use it to Saints. A straight swap for either of our boys is worth a chance to see if the kid can improve. Maybe we should offer Bate to Saints as a swap.

Bate would be getting paid more than Walsh amd I don't think the saints have the cap space...interesting offer though...

He was absolutely brilliant, wasn't he.

For some reason, I am very excitied about the prospect of drafting Walsh.

I think if we get him, at worst, he can throw his weight around and be an Earl Splading type.

Stkilda have too many big forwards, ie Reiwoldt, Kozi

No news today on this front. However, with Clarke turning us down I would expect more effort to be put into luring Walsh, so that could be seen as good news. We still have a lot of money and a lot of good picks to throw around, so you'd think we could get a deal done. Only thing that could hurt is that Lynch has been traded, so they have one less forward on their list now.

Is he any relation to Nick Walsh? Y'know, because all Irishmen who convert to Aussie rules must be related ;)

Hopefully not related to Mike cos he couldnt paly footy for shyte !!

The fact that he has indicated that he wants out puts us in a good position to target him.

Will be looking for more opportunity and higher pay which we can provide.

Obviously depends what BP, TH and MN think of him. Again I say some Saints mates think he was hard done by and blame Coach for not giving him games.

.....you mean like Luke Ball. ;-)

Of course it can ever only be speculative, but one has to wonder what maybe a different coach may have got out of what is / was a pretty talented Saints list.

So he has expressed an interest in going to Sydney based on the fact that they will give him games. Surely the same could be said of Melbourne? Are they offering him more money? What would motivate him to specify one club over others at this stage? How much of a preference does he really have? Would he be happy playing anywhere that would give him a game or is he doing a Mitch Clarke and throwing all his eggs in one basket?

I also question the Saints proclaiming that none of their players are up for grabs despite being desperate to clear some space under the salary cap. Every single player who has been mentioned has been declared off limits in their press releases. Obviously, given that they are in such need of offloading, this can't be the case with them all, therefore they are playing silly buggers in the hopes of getting payed overs for their players. Personally, I would love it if the other clubs left them to burn, but there are a few really good players there who can be shaken loose, so reality suggests they will get out of it.

In conclusion, ignore what the idiot is saying to the press and push them for Walsh. They have to give ground somewhere and it might as well be to us. We have better picks to offer than Sydney, so if they want to maximise their benefits from the deal (which they obviously do given the games they're playing) we're the team to deal with.

They have delisted 4 and traded 1 out and traded 2 in. That leaves 3 draft picks at the moment. They will want another pick or two so 1 or 2 more players to go.

A lot to do with his desire to go to Sydney is the Irish support structure. Taigh has endorsed a move to the Swans for him. Hes ( TW) is listenign to someone whos done the journey ,...and successfully, twice even. StKilda to be honest will have struggled to pour a Guiness let alone understand this kid. Sydney are wise in these matters.

We on the other hand have in our midst the bloke who wrote the book on all this...well both of them.. JS and RDB

This is very much about getting into his mindset...if this is who we want to go after.

StKilda , even with a new coach are going to have to make some sacrifices.

What a story it would be if it happened. Having lost Sean this year and with Jim ill, it would be great to have another big Irish kid play with the Dees. Maybe even a lift for Jim. Oh well I digress.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
