Sylvia is a sublime but slightly erratic talent who, for one reason or another has never gotten the best out of himself in his time at the club.

That is not to say that he is not one of the team's better players (he finished 10th in the best and fairest) but, as Brent Moloney pointed out in Bluey night, he should be aiming for the top.

Hope that Col heeded the sage advice of Beamer. Would love to see him wreaking havoc on the regular. I hope this new coach is as good as we all hope he will be, because if so, we stand to see the improvement in a player like Col that we all long to see. Big year 2012 I'm tipping.

Arguably the most frustrating player on the list because he is also arguably the most talented.

Looking forward to Col Sylvia ver 3.01 Should he ever get his head in the right spot for long enough he might just become the player we all would love him to be. More the point he might just surprise himself,

Yes, if Neeld is the hard man they say he is, then Col will not be shown much love if he continues his hot and cold ways. I'm sure Neeld is well aware of this issue and would not be at all surprised if he hasn't already had a few words. Col would become a real weapon if Neeld can manage to get him to perform to his potential on a weekly basis - Brownlow material even.

A word of caution... saying Col is one of the better players because he managed 10th in the Bluey won't cut it with a number of posters here; just look at the "experts" thoughts on Green who was just one place behind him in 11th.

With all due respect to the Bluey and I certainly dont mean to dilute its importance you have to see it in context. Someone willl aways win it. Its a closed shop affair. Whom ever is deemed the best at the club gets teh points and accunulates his award etc. This only really serves to compare one to another within our own ranks and doesnt in any real shape or form hold them to an unadulterated and less forgiving ajudication. its the likes of A-A_, or the Brownlow, or other inustry awards that will see our players in some less 'rosey' light.

Sorry B59, you're going to have to explain this one to the uneducated. Obviously I'm reading it wrong when I say in your first paragraph you're hinting that the Bluey is really not a recognised award in the greater football community's eyes, and as you rightly point out, there will always be a winner, just like there will always be someone who comes last in it, and there will always be someone who comes tenth.

But, in your next paragraph, your concerned that Col came tenth in our B&F. I wouldn't think B&F position would matter too greatly (if I read your first paragraph correctly).

All the bullsh!t aside, and most have said similar on this thread, or any other time they talk about Col. He is inconsistent, should be our best player, needs to pull his finger out and work harder. If he can do this, he can be a season winner for us, at the moment, he's just a match winner but only for a handful of games each year. Not good enough.

They do that and Club awards would follow in course.

Again, just in case youre tempted ( and I know you are ) to put a spin where its not warranted, the Bluey is a great award. To be cherished by all that have won and wil win it. But it is a club award and isnt as impartial as a competition wide award. thats simply a fact.

If they regularly finish in the Top 5, even if they never win the Bluey, that's the sign of a good player. It's the ones that are Top 3 one year, then 12th the next, then 8th the next, that inconsistency is what's killing us, and it's blokes like Col that are doing it to us.

Billy..im just as perplexed as to how some blokes finished as high as they did.. Imn many respects this says a lot about the Melbourne of season 2011. It will be a different 2012 if for no other reason than those in charge are different.. Anyone is welcome to read into that what they like.

Garland was here and there throughout and if you recall he struggled with injury for a period of time around the North Melbourne game.

There was a 6-8 week period where Rivers should not have been playing seniors let alone moving up the B&F ranks (have to admit, I don't know if he got votes during that period). But, to be fair to Rivers, not many of our players deserved votes in that time.

As I said HT, not taking anything away from Murphy's season, but wouldn't you think a $1.80 favourite for the Brownlow, where a professional betting agency were paying out bets before the end of the season, must have had a pretty bloody good season. As it turned out (through the eyes of the umpires), he polled more vites than Murphy. That was my point about someone winning the Brownlow and not winning the B&F, it will forever have questions raised. That's why I prefer to look at a players placing in the B&F over a period of time. I want to see consistent performances year after year.

Chip Frawley is well on track of doing this. Col needs to do this.

You beat me to the punch -- Col does have the talent and the ability to win the Brownlow; only he himself can know why he lacks the drive, the dedication, or the geuniue will to do so.

I hope our new coach helps him to find his best, but the coach can only help -- OVER TO YOU, COLIN, IF YOU REALLY CARE !!

His contract should have a significant bonus clause for finishing first in our B+F. Most of the time, money is a good enough motivator. Dangle a carrot in front of Sylvia's nose and watch him bolt like a thoroughbred.

I, too, hope Beamer heeds his own advice. However, I hope it more for Col due to how damaging he could be, and I don't think anyone can really question Beamers drive and motivation. They can definitely be forgiven for asking such questions re Col.

Neeld will be on to Col with a red-hot poker in hand.

Col is the gun we need to fire on a consistent basis. On his day he can be a game-breaker, but on any other day he seems sullen and disinterested. He is fast, strong, a beautiful long kick and has great hands. In short, he has the talent to be a top-liner, but he seems content with mediocrity. No doubt the new coaches will be searching for the right buttons to push to get Col up and about on a weekly basis. If they succeed (said more in hope than expectation) he could take the competition by storm. If they fail, he will continue to frustrate.

He's currently the best player on our list, but for whatever reason doesn't deliver as such every week. It feels like I've been waiting forever for Col to come of age. Continue to wait I shall...
