I think our priority during trade week should be using our compo picks to acquire the pick for either O'Meara or Crouch.

Along will filling the holes in our list, of course.

Good find Lulz. That's great news about the deals having to be stitched up by end of Thursday trade week - I was worried Sheedy and Gumby would hold up all other trades until the death.

RPFC, my understanding is the trades work like any other, there's a week long Trade Period starting on Monday, half way through is the deadline for these trades. Clubs offer GWS trades, GWS makes a decision on what to accept and gives the picks out in order, clubs are bidding for pick 1 first, then pick 2 - through to as many as GWS want to trade up to the maximum of 4.

From what i have gathered is that u can bid for pick 1 or pick 2, which are seperate bidding systems!! GWS then choose the best possible deal for each pick and hand out picks 1 or 2. They do have 4 pick and they dont all have to be used this year.

A question i have of my own is if we traded our pick after our 1st rnder to gws, when they use that pick does it go off our ladder position or theres?? Therefore if they finish last next year and they get that pick they will have picks 1 and 2!!

They've got a maximum of 4 over 2 years but they don't HAVE to trade any. They'd be mad if they didn't but they don't have to. Thety can't take O'Meara this year, but if they don't trade any this year, they can pick up O'Meara with ND pick 1 (which they'll probably have for finishing bottom next year) in 2012 when he eligible.

rpfc surely the reason no one understands the rules is because the vaguer they are, the more the AFL can manipulate them to the their advantage.

If you wanted to trade John Smith for O'Meara as part of the mini draft and had to wait to find out the result, then you might find yourself holding a player you don't want after the trades if you happen to be the losing bidder.

RPFC the mini draft is totally seperate to the national draft, this does not affect our picks in ND. i think there are about 26 17yr olds in the mini draft where theres only 4 picks but gws dont have to hand all 4 picks out this year!!

In your scenario, if GWS only decided to give up two picks in the mini-draft and we were given pick 2, then we get to pick the second most talented player from a pool of 26 or so 17yr olds (with O'meara likely gone at no.1)

The following year GWS have to trade the last of these 2 picks to clubs who then auction of for a new batch of highly rated 17yr olds born from 1 Jan 1995 to 30 April 1995.

GWS can determine how many picks they will offer up to maximise their trade value to gain experienced players or more draft picks.

Well clubs can bid for what pick they want!! so if a club feels pick 1 would cost too much they can therefore bid for 1 of the later picks!!

Players in this mini draft will not be in nxt years mini draft coz its 17 yr olds. so thats the incentive if theres a player u really want eg. o'meara. He will be in the ND nxt year!!

There's Trade week this year, there's a Mini Draft this year at the end of the Trade Week, GWS can trade up to 4 picks in this year's Mini Draft, deals have to be finalised by Thursday of the Trade Week. The traded picks are 1.2.3. up to 4 in this years Mini Draft. If GWS don't trade any picks there's no Mimi Draft this year. If they trade all 4 picks this year, there's no Mini Draft next year.

If GWS trade less than 4 picks this year, then next year same thing happens as this year with the remaining picks . Next year's picks become picks 1,2,3 etc in next year's Mini Draft.

I expect it to go down to the wire on Thursday with clubs bidding for pick 1 - the offer GWS thinks is best will get pick 1, they'll offer pick 2 to the next best offer - the club making that offer can accept pick 2 or decline, etc until the the offers are not acceptable or time runs out.

IF GWS likes the offers it gets from this.... all 4 can be done this year. If they hate it, they pull up stumps and say try harder next year. The 4 picks are just that.

Seems like you are geting confused by reading too much into it.

OK, IF Gold Coast say we want to give you pick 4 in the national draft for a pick in the mini draft. If that's the best offer then GWS Say here have pick 1. Someone else might trump that offer with players, and then GC might say not interested without it being pick 1. It would be no different to anything else that goes on in trade week... except you are trading for picks. Some clubs might be gunning really hard for pick 1 to get O'Meara... where other clubs like Geelong, Hawks, Collingwood would see it as an opportunity to get a player who is possibly a top 5 pick in two years time (again there is a lot of speculation in draft order) but they can jump the queue offering a player and a pick given the likelihood to get a top 5 pick after being a top 4 club is highly improbable

The incentive to trade is to improve your list, same as it always is!

Where have you "heard" that "picks are seperate bidding systems" - link please. How will they know "pick 1 would cost too much"? A club could wait until pick 1 is gone before getting involved but why do that - they might make the best offer and GWS might accept it for pick 1. It just makes no sense.

Think I was getting confused when they started throwing around the words "auction" and "bidding" when in essence it’s just more trade negotiations that happen every year, except you'll be trading for the right to select a player that won't be eligible to play until 2013.
