Reminds me of Clint Bartram. Does a few good things but then spoils it all with Suburban like footy clangers.

Wouldn't be too upset if he goes, but could provide important depth with the depature of Warnock.

Not fussed one way or the other with this bloke. I absolutely love his endeavour and his competitiveness, but as a footballer he's 'par'. Replaceable, and if we're short on spots after trade week (read: can't offload Bate and/or Dunn) I'd be happy for a line to go through his name to clear space.

Agree, in some ways it is a bit sad.... he and Bartram show the competitive and aggressiveness that we want to see from ALL our players. But.... lets face it, if Neeld succeeds in making the team the hardest to play against... then all should show such traits... and then these guys don't have anything.... although if they can follow the team plan and be a role player there is a spot I guess

In a way, but Bartram makes far more mistakes per game and is much more of a liability.

Macdonald is genuinely tough and can break the lines like no other player in the side, give me him over Strauss any day.

McDonald and Davis may be better than him in a few years, but at the moment Macdonald is better, more experienced and tougher. I am all for playing the kids, but at all times you need a mix of experience, Macdonald is currently best 22.

yeah towards the end of the year MacDonald was killing his opponents, especially in the air.

He is far from a list clogger in my opinion, he is a fringe player who can be relied on to do a job if requried to play in the 1's.

Infact, i have a gut feeling that players who are willing to play a role for the team will be the types of players Neeld embraces as he tries to teach his style of game plan

Laughing at those who think we couldn't do with someone like J Mac in the side. Hard bodied defender that uses his muscle to good effect and with warnock wanting out and the rate that our backline go down he will definetlu be needed!

With so many soft players at the MFC Joel Mac is precisely the type of guy we need around. Muppets!

Give me Strauss over Joel MacDonald any day.

Thinking about it, Joel may be saved if we end up making "too much" space on the list in the year of a bad draft.

By that I mean trading players and picks for kids that can't come onto our list for another year.

But I still think he's one of the 1st to go.

Macdonald played a few really good games in a stretch mid season, especially against Essendon.

But he turns it over!!! So what does Neeld want to fix first? The skill level or the attitude. If it's the first we should axe him, if its the second we should keep him.

If we lose Warnock and Joel we end up with little to no depth in the back 6. I have no issues with Joel getting another 2 years with us. He is not in our best 22 but does a nice job of doing his role when he does get in our best 22. Never one to disappoint when he gets a game.

Rivers, Grimes and Garlo don't have a great history of staying fit.

Maybe thats the issue. The length of Contract may be the sticking point? 1 Yr stay, or if you want more, look around?

Way better than he's given credit for. I would not get rid of him. In fact, he'd be one of the first I'd select each week.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
