Gary Ayres and Chris Pelchen having breakfast at table next to me this morning. The words "great new facilities" were heard. Might just be a couple of mates catching up or could be more.

As Senior Coach or Assistant. The way I have been going he will end up at South Morang.

Senior coach, I wouldn't think there'd be a market for an assistant would there? Surely his record at PM would have to put him square in line for a top job wouldn't it?

It's a nice thought, but 2 failures and being out of the AFL system means he won't be in line for the top job. He'd make a good assistant to a young coach, but may well be happier being in charge at Port Melbourne. He's obviously got a good set up.

I could imagine him being targeted for a Neil Craig / Mark Thompson role.

Not sure if he'd go for it though.

Damien Barrett on sunday footy show named about 10 people being interviewed by Saints for roles and didn't mention Ayres. You may have heard it here first.

But seriously, I've heard the only one interested in the job is the St Kilda schoolgirl.

I've also heard that Lyon is about to be sacked and Freo are signing Malthouse.

But I could be wrong.

Run Gary run, theyre a basketcase...or at least a rabble of nutjobs ever ready to self implode or eat their own. Strangely im not making that up. History is the worst ( or best ) judge of StKilda and it isnt kind.

Wouldn't mind Gary Ayres at Melbourne as a defensive coach.

Geez he could play...One of Hawthorns meanest when they were just plain mean & Nasty

Coached by Allan Jeans, i have always been a little suprised Ayres didn't crack it big in coaching.

He knows the game.

I always thought Ayres was a key back with the luxury of playing in the pocket.

Where we would have to put a Warren Dean, Grinter or a Sean Wight in the critical positions hawks had the langfords mews and knights.

He almost never took the biggest or best.

My jaundiced eye may be telling, but i reckon he was good not great.

Bruce Doull however could play anywhere down back.

I see where you are coming from, with some merit....But to play in Allan Jeans sides a player had to be top notch....They did play in 7 GF's in a row...dropped a year then won the 91...Ayres was right in there, with Langford.

Obviously Ayres doesn't keep evidence of his coaching intentions in the rubbish bin.

After Harvey was sacked I heard Barrett say something along the lines of "I heard murmurs earlier this week". What a crock, no one knew, not even Lyon's management.
