The Mitch Clark Thread

Heart Beats True

Recommended Posts

Quite frankly if Neeld and Rawlings havent been able to sway him.. we just keep looking. No point in my mind taking a player as some sort of hostile captive trophy.

All i can say is if he wants to go home...let him. Tough bikkies for us.

Yeah trade for any dud and say we got a player who wante dot play for us. woopy do.

So you would prefer us to waste more time chasing this dead end? I'm not sure if you understand this but the most important thing about any trade is the player in question must want to come to the club - this is of paramount importance. If the player doesn't want to come to the club then the trade doesn't happen.

I do understand. My point is that we cant seem to find that player who both wants to play for us and meets our needs.

You do realise that Trade week is not just about getting players. Keeping your most dangerous opponents accountable is also part of the game. Getting involved in the Clark negotiations was always a win-win.

Rubbish. Unless we actually get some draft picks out of it it's not a win at all for us.

If our offer to Clark forces Fremantle to offer more $$ and use more of their salary cap we have still achieved a small win.

Freo could well be one of our major opponents in finals over the next few years.

Cool. With that attitude MFC would get nowhere.

Very true. its all a game within a game of sorts. Not a lot occurs in isolation.

Well if nothing else everyone was forced to sit up and take notice, we're not stuffing around anymore, we're here to play for keeps.

Possibly Clark to Melb was a bridge too far.

Bloody spewing to be honest. It has been determined that we need a KPF, we've targeted 2 this trade period, and have failed on both for various reasons. But seriously, why the f**k can't we land a player that we target?

I would have to say in the 30+ years barracking for Melbourne, this has been the most disappointing for so many reasons. The loss to Geelong - the way the players showed no respect for anything associated with the MFC was disgusting. For me, losing Scully was a tragedy. We are not a 1 man team, but this bloke had the makings of a superstar, and the way he treated the MFC was also disgusting. And now during trade week, we were told at the start of the week we were going to focus on the mini draft selections - MISS. Then we focused on filling the key forward role, offered great dollars/contract - 2 MISSES (Dawes, Clark).

No doubt I'll get my ass chewed off about this post, but FFS, what next?

Billy... Mitch wants to go home. Hes more than aware that should a deal not happen with the Lion sthen he could stil wind up a Demon and would be happy enough with that.. Again, he wants to go home. Not he doesnt want to play with us..he wants to go home. Why is this so hard for people to understand.

B59 - It's not about understanding it, I can perfectly understand that he wants to go home. BUT...we wanted him, we made him a great offer, but still couldn't convince him that "home" is going to be in Victoria for the next few years. All credit to Clark - he knocked back an outstanding offer, I respect that. Doesn't mean it's not a kick in the guts though that we targeted someone, offered them something good, and they still rejected it.

Let's see - one who plays with the biggest club in Australia, in this years GF, is a current premiership player and can look forward to a number of years of real contending ahead and one who expressly said he wants to go home to Perth. It's good that we took a decent shot - there's only so many KPFs around. We just have to work down the list.

I understand the frustration that fans feel when we cannot attract players, but not long ago we were a basketcase. It's a steep climb.

We have been able to attract off-field names and that is promising, but we are still wading through the inertia that comes from being as poor as we have been.

As for Clark, he wants to go home.

As much as some don't like to admit it we have to build up some respect within the football community before we can attract top line players to our club.

At the moment we are not the place they want to go to and the way we have been over the last so many years why would you blame them. We have to begin to rebuild our club and that process has started.

It's not the end of the world guys - we were never going to get him and must move on. Time to land a Lisle or perhaps a VFL/SANFL/WAFL Key position player. Moving forward Lucas Cook is the man - we just need someone else whilst he is developing. I'd also like to see if we can land 1 or 2 mature bodied midfielders as this is an area we need to work on.

Yeah you will because there is absolutely no benefit in thinking this way. You're a committed, long term Melbourne supporter and you're not jumping off. The more we focus on our negatives the more we'll be viewed as losers. No-one wants to be associated with losers. We're the club that invented the game, we're debt free, great facilites, talented young list, increasingly large football department, an inspirational president and a fine young coach. The only negative I can see is the 'woe is me' mentality that has gripped so many supporters of late.

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm
