A spanner in the works....

Blues lost to the Saints, and now look to be on shaky ground going in against Essendon in the first week of the finals.

I predict a Carlton player or 2 will miss the game after stepping on fingers and other indiscretions in last night's game.

If the blues are swept out of the finals in the first week, Brett Ratten will be lining up at Centrelink on the Monday.

If we are seriously making a run at either Ross Lyon or Mick Malthouse, and they are in fact available, we will face serious opposition in the race for their signatures...

Worsfold could be the smokey ????

Would prefer him ahead of Lyon and even Malthouse.

There has been murmurings that he was not happy with the treatment he received from the Eagles heirarchy before their monumental rise this year.

They would be hard to leave after all the hard work getting them to where they are now though.

Not sure when his final year of contract is up????

But what a coup it would be!!!

Worsfold? Really?

If he's not happy with the Eagles hierarchy, imagine what he'd think of ours, after the way we treated Bailey!

I really don't consider him an even remote possibility.

I did say it would be a coup..... :)

If they can't get any of those three I would prefer Viney to stay on if he wishes to.

As a matter of fact I would prefer Viney to Lyon anyway.

Absolute crap, whoever mentioned these murmurings has their hand firmly on it! He will be at WCE until he retires

If Carlton end up being in the market for a coach at the same time as us I'm going to stomp my feet, fold my arms and pout. Geez I hate those bastards and their blank cheques.

I'm not sure of the murmurings and their source, just relaying what i read elsewhere.

I do have a question though...

What makes you so sure he will be there until he retires ?

Do you know him personally?

Nasher!

If you are going to have a tantrum because you didn't get the last Malthouse, then no ice-cream!

I will call up and see if they have a Lyon in stock, ok?

And how are you going to take care of it?

Look what you did to the Bailey I got you...

Haven't you heard?

Carlton signed Malthouse up last October for the 2012 coaching gig. Ross Lyon, Rodney Eade and Dean Bailey are slated to be his assistants.

I'm 98% sure of this.

1)If you read it about three weeks ago on sportscene or whatevr Hagdorn writes on, take it as crap

2)The fact Woosha did not get the boot last year suggests enough that he is not under any pressure at WCE, the board and the fans love him and he is treated like a god. This season has done enough to get him another 3 year deal and he will not be sacked. He is a James Hird, Nathan Buckley of the Eagles in years to come he will be offered a role as footy development officer, director of coaching or one of these type of roles

3)Don't know Woosha personally, know a few family members and close friends. The way they and all others in WA footy circles speak of Wooshas bond to Eagles, I am pretty confident he will not ever go elsewhere.

Kim Hagdorn is to AFL media, what Freak is to demonland.

One can but dream though....

I don't think Ratten will get the boot.

So it's Malthouse or Lyon I guess.

Who else would be in serious contention I wonder?

Malthouse or Lyon are still far from certainties to be available.

I think more realistic fallbacks are Mark Neeld and Brenton Sanderson.

I've heard Gavin Brown somewhere, but I'm not convinced.

Eade would be a serious chance.

The jungle drums are beating...

Well, it's actualy just Caro in the car park with some bongos... but if Ratten doesn't win this weekend, we'll have some serious competition for coaching candidates.

Worsfold sucked everyone in last year.

Tanking (not necessarily for picks) at its best.

I think Carlton are searching for excuses to let Ratten go.

I think they desperately want someone who can help wreck eD's boat. Malthouse would be the perfect Irony to add a little cardboard cut to eD's Brow.

Imagine that, one Black Eye, & one white. B)

I can confirm this. Judd's Grandmother told me.

I wrote a month ago that Carlton's Swan will already have chatted to Malthouse and come to a heads of agreement decision to step in as soon as Ratton slips, or at least when the blues perceive him to slip with a little help from his friends

I read an article that said Malthouse has assured Ratten he's not taking his job. I'll be supporting Carlton on the weekend though, we don't need them in the market for a new coach.

If Ratten does get the bullet at the Blues, any interest in him as our next coach?

He was supposedly a good assistant when he was with us but I have little idea to be honest.

Seems to have done a good job with the Blues list.I doubt we would be playing bruise free football with him as the coach.

So perhaps but he has to get the flick first

IMO the Carlton fans over rate their list a little, take out Judd and I think it is average.

PS great comment on that other thread RD

Agreed..........I'm not a big wrap for their list either, and it still appears that so much falls to Judd for their success.

I would imagine Ratten would be re-appointed as coach of Carlton. He would be stiff to lose his job, considering their overall improvement despite missing top 4. Hopefully it's a 2-3 year contract. But it wouldn't surprise me if it's a 1 year extension, leaving the door open for 2013.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
