End of Season for Aaron Davey

Even as someone prepared to forgive Flash most of his bad days - I don't think his form against Richmond really warranted an immediate return to the Senior team after his suspension. But with LJ injured, I thought he might get another chance to finish this year on a positive note this week(even if only as the Sub)

But as it has turned out - he's not even part of an extended bench ......and (presumably as he hasn't qualified for the VFL Finals) he hasn't been picked for Casey either. So he finishes a dreadful season with half a dozen possessions and suspension for a careless elbow in Round 22. As Vice Captain,will they take him to Adelaide to watch the game?

What happens now? Does he return for the pre-season as a potential member of the leadership group in 2012? Will he be able to rebuild his confidence in the NAB Cup? Will he be a walk-up start for Round 1 next year if he trains well?

He has been an important member of our team for several years now - and at 28 ( or 27) ought to be an important part of our squad for a few years yet ... but he seems to have a bit of a climb ahead of him.

I would have loved to have seen a few flashes of the old Flash during these last few weeks ..... but nothing.............Where to now?

Yes. I think everyone does. On what I've seen, he shouldn't be voted in though.

Yes. He would be able to, or at least to some extent.

Yes. If he trains and plays well enough in the pre-season/NAB Cup there's no reason why he wouldn't play.

The thing that disappoints me the most is the lack of information from the club about his absence from the team this week. There would have been nothing wrong with an announcement to the effect that he was being rested so that he would be right for the start of next year's pre season but instead we got nothing. He wasn't on the injured list and there was not a hint from the club that, as one of the team leaders, he would be missing this week. What inferences are we supposed to draw from that?

He's had one bad year and there were probably mitigating circumstances (I'm just speculating). Why are we so quick to condemn him? People forget what excitement and class he has brought to the Dees. In the darkest days of 2008, Bails said he wished he had three or four Aaron Daveys in the side. Obviously a reference to the fact that he was one of the few truly class players at Melbourne at the time. Yes, he has shown a lack of discipline, and on a couple of occasions didn't "go when it was his turn". He has lost confidence and rhythm. However, players of his class don't lose their ability. He is still only 28? He had a broken leg at the end of last season and has an interrupted year this season. Trading him would be so dumb. I look forward to him rising to the challenge under a new coach.

Well there was always talk when he got his last big contract that he was a leader of our exciting young aboriginal talent and vital for them. Well the club cannot be happy with his year. He was no doubt playing injured but his leadership was non existent. He pushed the club for a long term deal but has gone downhill since.

When people look at our lack of character and soft tag look no further than Davey. Reminds me of use of yze right now

C'mon Pink, you're disappointed with the Club for not giving reasons why they didn't pick a player? Perhaps the Club didn't want to come out and say "that due to poor form and because of his carelessness during the Richmond game, we deiceded that Aaron will not be picked this week as we beleive players who do the right thing should be rewarded". Oh how the media would love Viney and Co to come out and say that.

Why do they need to explain their selections, or in this case, non-selection? There are 2 scenarios, either;

* He is being rested (I don't know why he would be with 1 game to go, after a poor year and letting his team down in his last game) because of his knee issues for the last half of this season. Or...

* Because of his poor form leading up to his suspension and the FD determined that he didn't deserve a call up.

I strongly believe that it is scenario 2, and because of that, am glad the Club haven't come out and said anything. As I said in my initial post, imagine the media frenzy if we came out and said that about our vice captain.

I'm still trying to find Geelong's response for not selecting Mooney this week...

This idea that we are "entitled to know facts" is such a nonsense. Heres how it works - Clubs are always quick to put out positive spin stories. Any internal rumblings or maccinations, less than happy news stories are kept internal ( and unfortunately leaked) and then the journo's ask the questions and make up stories or just make up stories without asking questions. If the story is way off the mark then the club will come out and issue a counter story. Collingwood have not proactively issued one story about Mick Malthouse. Everything issued has been in response to questions or stories in the press.

To expect communication that Davey hasnt been selected - hardly newsworthy - and if it newsworthy a question will be asked by someone and the club responds.

LY, Davis was a peripheral player at CFC. Davey was at least top 8 to 10 at MFC and is a supposed leader. If you think you can reinvent Davey given his issues atm then great. I dont think Davis/Davey are the same sort of footballers despite obvious appearances.

I am not sure there is better value in trading him given his influence around the club but unless he really changes his ways his options for the future are limited.

There is no way Davey will retire before the end of 2012.

He has a contract for 2012 ( some suggest at $500 000 ) he will be at the MFC in season 2012.

I would have said Flash time to reset and take a break.

He has been injured and out of form makes sense to start his rebuild for next year from now.

I'd like to see him stay and think he needs to work on what role he can now play he is a little slower.

Having watched him closely in the last couple of games its clear he wants to do well and I think he can be a good player for the team if we give him a specific role.

Sorry Nutbean but I think communication is important. Can't really be bothered in explaining why. By the way I don't believe I have said I wanted Aaron out the door. In this case however as there have been previous theories as to Aaron's ability or otherwise to play for Casey I would have appreciated and found anexplanation helpful. Robbie 57 type reply would do the trick wouldn't it? It's not a dirty washing issue, its about having a little information on one of our more decorated players.
