It would beg the question then Tweed..or anyone.. How far into say a 5year Million dollar a year deal does he start being worth the pay ? It all becomes a deal needing very careful thinking..

To point that GWS need to spend their salary during the first few seasons on some decent players rather than none and rookies

Media attention it all gathers, if i was GWS i would have started rumours with about 300 more players than they have

As the denouement of Scully The Opera fast approaches, I can only think that TS has allowed himself to be mis-used by those who should be representing his interests. The player-manager stands to make a whole lot of money, and the GWS and Melbourne are caught in an unwarranted bidding war. Scully's performances on the field in the light of these shenanigans show that far from not being distracted by off-field matters (in delaying contract negotiations), he is totally distracted. The greatest impact, however has been on the club he plays for and the potential to stuff up signings for those who will commit to the club.

Player managers are generally on a flat rate, rather than a percentage of the player's contract, so that it removes a conflict of interest in going only for the highest pay deal.

It's about getting the player the best deal for him, and part of that includes pay, but also a lot of other factors.

That his performance is a direct result of 'distraction' is hardly conclusive - there are a myriad of other possibilities.

Same as the assumption that it's had an adverse effect on the club as a whole.

just playing devils here e25... do you know for certain what the management cut is with Scully ? Any management has bonuses and incetives.. but who knows the criteria. That could be equally leveled against my own reservations.

I don't know for certain, but when most aren't on deals like that, wouldn't it be a bit silly to assume he was one of the very few to be on one?

Not really...no more silly to suggest he is as he isnt. Given that he was the #1 pick going into the 2 year incubation period and likely to be extremely sought after...then I might think hes not the average bear ?

Even if this is so, the end result is the same: blucher Inc., which has future free-agent ccandidates knocking on his door.

Of course it is!

When you know that most AREN'T, in the absence of evidence either way, of course it's silly to make the assumption that he IS.

My god, you love to talk in riddles...

What doesnt ? Vlocity have signed probably the most unique client the game has seen since.. well..whenever.

Scully is the #1 pick. He immediately enters a draft allocation to a club. But whos to say he stays at that club after the 2 year period, or as I call it the incubation. For if he does goe to GWS after his stint at MFc weve been nothing more than baby sitters. He was always going to be in GWS's sights from teh moment he was the #1 pick. ergo Vlocity have on their books a unique assett, in just a unique situation.

Why would he not possibly require a special handling or circumstance ? Seeems a natural extension of things.

Scully has had a very injury interrupted season, is still small, and must have much on his mind. That said, Gubby Allan must be nervous as hell, cos right now he looks like a turkey. Scully wouldn't be in the top 200 players in the league, but he'll just about be the hghest paid player. Pretty funny really.

And the highest paid player (I believe) would struggle to be in the top 400.

Bizarre scenario.

Yeah, ok, using that logic...

So Scully is unique, therefore he must have a unique contract? Ok, I'll go along with it...

Unique in what way? Why does it have to be unique in the way that supports your absurd argument?

How about unique in the way that his agent's commission varies inversely with how much Scully gets? Now that is unique...

How about Blucher decides what's best for Scully and where he goes and Scully gets no say? That's unique!

But neither of those scenarios are in Scully's best interest.

Neither is yours. And that's why they are not the norm in the AFL.

Sage comments. I concur that he has been poorly advised from day one.

Then again, who's ultimately responsible? The advisor or the advisee who pays them?

Joel Selwood on Footy Classified said he feels that he owes the club and that he and other players are happy to be paid below the odds to keep the group together.

Great attitude to have, probably easier to have this attitude at Geelong at the moment though.

I don't care if he stays or goes. But wow $600,000 is a lot of money. Knowing Melbourne, it'd come back to bight it in the bum.

agree.... really makes me wonder weather RR is a MFC supporter at all? hmmmm.... seems to have more love for silvagni than the MFC? :o TROLL :o

If not blindly following the herd and asking a few hard, uncomfortable questions means I'm a troll in your book, then yes I'm a troll.

It may bite us in the bum, if the amount is correct.

Remember, this is has not been confirmed and is just a figure bandied about by the media, who don't really have a clue.

I doubt GWS have offered him $5mil over 5 years too, or whatever it's supposed to be, according to journos.

How will YOU feel if Scully signs on to stay at MFC?

I guess chastened and apologetic ... to an extent. It is evident to me that things have not been entirely above board whether he stays or goes. But I will apologize nevertheless if he stays.

How will you feel if he doesn't?

Quite comfy I'd imagine because you'll no doubt say he weighed up his options after round 22.

Clearly then I haven't brought up the issues I have for some sort of [censored]-for-tat battle with you, rpfc and co. I admit it has looked that way at times but my own ego aside,

I do feel there are some genuinely odd circumstances surrounding this case that the majority of posters have remained strangely silent on.

Despite what Tatu said a few posts ago, I'm a passionate Melbourne man and just want the best outcome for the club.

Maybe I'm old fashioned but I revere players who put the Melbourne footy club's interests ahead of their own.

He can decide where his desks come from in September, because we are only going to offer 6 and a quarter desks no matter what.

With that in mind - we can plan how we give out our desks now.

Beauty! We can start organising our Deskchairs now then? LOL...

Good point, and we just started clearing players who wanted pension funds, at the expense of the club fighting for it's life. I'm happy for GWS to get all the Mercenaries in one leaky boat.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
