Do we take a leaf out of Essendon's book?

Our serious lack of on field leaderrship has got me thinking. Do we go to the drastic scenario of asking Junior to come back to the club as a player to give us some leadership?

I know it sounds stupid but Essendon did it with Tim Watson and Paul Salmon and with a fair bit of success also. Granted they weren't as far back as us but it may well be worth considering???

I know Sydney did it with Lockett and it was a disaster but drastic times call for drastic measures.

At this stage I'm looking for new coach, new captain and some more on field leaders, Junior coming back to the club I think should at least be considered. I'd even consider getting as drastic as trying to convince Brett Kirk to come out of retirement and play a season with us if it would help us!

He played well last week in the VAFA. nearly won the game himself but we were too strong.

I wouldn't be surprised if GWS were strongly considering him. Sheedy was/is a big fan of him, and they will need some good, senior leaders.

He probably also has a good relationship with number 31.

Would have probably pulled the plug after this year anyway so no.

But at least he'll be in the first few lines of "reasons why it went wrong" lists forever.

Yes but NO. Yes to getting him back around the club in some official paid capacity, but No, it's too late now for him to play. This would have been his last year of footy.

Couldn't possibly at 35 but has he expressed an interest in being involved at AFL club level? He could be a development coach or assistant coach

Shrewd thinking dee_star. Jnr's AFL playing days are over, but he may have much to offer in such a role.

Here me out with this. Brad miller was a great clubman. He was a fantastic off field presence at the club and although he wasn't the most talented bloke on field he would try his guts out and he would protect and stick up for team mates ! Take the chapman v dunn incident on the weekend not one player helped dunn out ! FFS I would have pulled chapman of him ! Our tam is soft and unwilling. This was typified for me in the Brisbane game where jurrah was being pushed round, greeny was running to the interchange saw it and just kept going! I woul have split the pack apart before coming off ..... And that's our captain .... Enough said

to be fair, nicholson helped. He was holding Chapman's jumper by the cuff from behind, which I was though was fairly ballsy of the young fella. more ballsy than nathan jones anyway, who watched the whole thing and let it slide.

I think we have missed the trio of Miller, Mcdonald and Bruce more than most think.

For the exact reasons you list.

it seems a large number let a lot of things slide.

I know I am from another era but in the second half why did we not just play one on one football.

yes I know it is not played that way these days.

Tottally agree! At the review of the game I hope Viney pauses it when jones looks over and does nothing. I have lost a lot of respect for jones.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
