Why does Dean keep playing this guy? I was a bit of a fan during 2007 - 2009, the guy looked like a promise kicking goals during our sour period. I hate writing of a player unlike WYL (Davey), but this guy has no place in an AFL side. Surely, with getting rid of JNR (due to getting game time into the youngsters) Lucas Cook gets a game.

Excuse me?? Did i write off Davey? His game against the Saints was a shocker, but i still hope Aaron Fires more shots.

Big statement there J5.

Sorry mate, but you did have a shot at me when I rated Flash. He was in the top 5 ball winners for MFC before he was injured. Can't wait for his return. No hard feelings OK?

There's already one Bate thread, not sure we need another especially if it was just infighting.

Bate was picked today due to his form in the 2's and the fact that really our options are limited.

And what did he do with those possessions? Davey hasn't fired a major shot in a game for a long time.

No hard feelings accepted.

Is he a fire into finals (I know we wont make an impact, but I just want this team playing finals). Where do we play him? I think he can come back and have an impact. HB flank is wrong, put him in the FWD pocket? No, keep him in the game. The guys a gun and his foot and run is lightning. It's like Sylvia and Green, we need our long term to fire.

Bate beat his man today and not many can say that .

He took marks on leads ,drew players ,made a contest ,and delivered .

Should be in our best after todays game .

I want to see Aaron played forward...his disposals do not hurt teams when he plays back.

Matty Bate was not disgraced today and deserves another game. The Midfield were monstered today...thus kicks forward were always rushed.

Fair point. I love the bloke, and as said before, he was a promise during our bottom years of late. Should we be playing Cook instead?

Davey, Morton and Bate should go! Trade them out. Absolutely hopeless...

Davey hopeless ?

maybe down on his best or ,in fact ,injured .

Bate saved us getting thrashed by more

and Morton is already at Casey.

Bater is only 24 .

Cook deserves a go for sure

Green needs a run on the ball ( i would have him mano e mono on Mitchell today) or a rest .

All things considered Bate was worth a punt and as others have said he was not our worst and showed some encouraging signs. However if our midfielders bomb it on his head he has no chance.

I think he gets another game should Jurrah not come up. What is the word with LJ anyway?

According Brad Green after the game, LJ has the flu!

I'd take Bate over Morton anyday!

I would to.. I'd like some time with Bater to help his deficiencies. I reckon I could get him to perform better over a 15 month period.

That to me would be much better than Mortons problematic scenario.

Had the most marks out of all our forwards today (8) and should have had a few more as some of the delivery was ordinary. He presents well does Bater and we will need his body size at the Cattery next week.

Wasn`t great by any stretch, but deserves another run next week

We are never going to win premierships if Bate and Dunn are a core part of our attacking zone.

Harsh, but true.

We have to stop falling into these traps, the sames one that left us with the most horrible. aging, useless list in 2007 (and from which we are still trying to recover).

Bate doesn't really cut it at the top level, he tries hard but has glaring deficiencies that will not change. Time to move him on. I'll be disappointed if we don't seek a trade for him at season's end. Same goes for Dunn and Warnock.

Your right & it points the the extremely Poor player development from our previous footy dept, resources or not. Something was wrong there, but ow we must be patient whilst these talented kids mature their games and are taught what to do and what not.

And of course those who'll have the desire to develop themselves to a higher level than the opposition players Do. > (Scully comes into frame).

The question is would Cook have done any better today? We complain when we are easily beaten but then suggest we replace older more experienced players with first gamers who are no where near ready for AFL. I'm not having a go at you but we can't have it both ways. We're not a match for Hawthorn and the only thing we can do is try to limit the loss; playing kids who will get slaughtered is not the answer.

Agreed.

In the end, Bate and Dunn are limited footballers who are not good enough, and for that alone, should not be playing.

Same goes for Warnock, Newton and Maric.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
