Another pre -season? He is in his 4th year. He'll have no value next year, very little now.

And if you are seriously suggesting his interrupted pre-season is the cause of his current malaise I'll spew. He had a finger problem FFS. Nothing to do with his fitness base.

If he has so little value now ... what would you be happy the club traded him for ie pick?

Give him one more full pre-season and see what he does next year. We'd get peanuts in return if we traded him now.

And I don't think the FD will want to let a pick 4 go so soon.

I remember '08 and '09 when he often kicked multiple goals to go with his 25-odd possies.

Ha He He, ' got it caught in a Tea Cup.

Give him a 2 year extension if Scully and col leave. We can't afford talent to fall off the list. He's a number 4 pick, an investment and with a full pre season next year I'm sure he'll come good again.

Did i just read that? You lambasted old55 after asking you a very similar question.

You don't talk players now do you? Belittling etc....

Contrary to your disbelief I think the PCL he did last year and a broken finger this year has in fact hindered his progress

but more importantly his confidence is shot. His value right now is negligible compared to what it will be in 12 months.

I'm still willing to give a guy who got a mid 15 beep test, won the Larke medal, won best first year player, 2008 nominee for rising star,

is the 4th selection overall in 2007 draft, and put 40 games together out of 44 in his first 2 seasons another 12 months.

But then again I've obviously based my opinion on a knee-jerk reaction because I'm mad and hysterical....

If we lose Col & Scull we'll have to reopen our list build for another season. 2 of our main Mids, we'd have to recruit more Mids and get years into them. We can lose only Scully. We can't afford to lose 100 gamers like Sylv'.

Keep Morton, trading down instead of Up. IMO trade Out for a pick to use on Viney or to substitute that early pick we have to use next Year.

Oh yeah, he was really blitzing it last Year. I love the way he throws his body around banging up the opposition. I'd rather have 4 2 6 back, in his place right now.

We've got to stop picking these mellow fellows.

I remember Gary Lyon saying on the footy show Cale will be a superstar on a level with Joel Selwood a couple of years back when he was going well. IMHO he hasnt been any good since he ran away from Brendan Lade in what seemed and felt like a very embarassing incident for any Melbourne fan. I hope he makes it but hes going to have to stand up and smack someone to turn around my opinion of him. Oh yeah and Cale, no more short steps, youve got long legs just use them and break lines and kick long. Metres gained should be your objective.

With all due respect ... He (old 55) asked me who I'd delist. Who interestingly we haven't heard back from.

I just asked another poster what he would accept ... but did I quote a number? No I did not.

If he chooses not to answer ... thats fine. But I wont go off the planet like you appear to be doing.

But thanks for your concern.

Don't let facts get in the way of your misguided views. Your opinion is what it is but [censored] I'm glad your not in charge of list management. Morton is a spud except it and except a number four pick has been wasted. Shouting and swearing always makes a point sound more valid.

After 2 or 3 games I was singing out for him to put some pressure on by going for the ball or tackle. Afterwards I heard people saying all these platitudes, so I thought I'd wait a while. Last year, after 2 or 3 years, I saw one or two things, a good kick to a team mate some effort at the contest, backing back once or twice. I thought OK, is there something. This Year, nothing...

He just doesn't have the courage for the contested ball,,, that todays footy demands. There is no space in todays footy. When he was spotted and finally drafted there was more space to find around the MCG wings. Not now. That is why Nicholson & Evans are such good pickups, they can work in tight, & run & carry as well. They're skilled with good reflexive decisions on the move for todays tempo.

Cale either has to adjust his game quicksmart or his gone. He was dropped coming into the big games of our season for good reason.

Why? It's easy. Keep everyone.

Why? is it so easy for you, to be so disloyal to players from the MFC. Yet Scully is called a mercenary, for the same attitude.

Lets get rid of everyone, why not? start again? yeah! great idea

Cale is a player for the MFC!

Disrespect the jumper? did i miss something? Did Cale burn a red and blue jumper at the "G", or did he just have a few bad games?

I've got a great idea, let's send all our players to an abattior, and the Cattle that escapes, we should keep.

PS. I was the one who mentioned Tom Scully or should i have said "specimen pick one, year two zero zero nine".

I don't think we've got anything to lose in keeping Cale for another year, at least, he has got talent and he can play but lacks a bit of go and a bit of confidence at the moment. If we keep him and then decide to trade him in a year or so I doubt there would be much difference in what we got/get for him.

I don't think he's a defender and see him more as a natural forward or mid, he doesn't play tight enough to defend. He does have the capacity to drift in to the forward line and take a mark, he seems to be able to find space and it would be interesting to see how he would fare if someone had to mind and stop him. He's got a big tank so good luck staying with him.

We may well, but just keeping him won't change a thing.

We have to demand that he adapts his game. You don't give out accolades to footballers who don't deserve them. When they deserve them, give them. Thats how they strive for achievement. If you give them the rewards before they achieve, well thats putting the cart before the horse, it just doesn't work.

I think Cale, like Oooze, got games he didn't perhaps deserve early on because there was no one else and therefore didn't have to work hard at it. It's different now and we have other players that can perform his role so he has to fight to get a game, I guess this is where performance based wage comes in to it. If Cale wants to be part of the future at the club he has to start to pull his weight, not that he has much, and show there is a place for him be it back or forward, he has the talent he has the skill it's up to him and the football department to get the best out of him.

Maybe Cale will be one of those that will star in a lesser competition but never be able to make the grade in the big league, who knows, but I think we have to at least find out. Trading him now will get us very little and if he does kick on at a new club we will probably kick ourselves. We don't know for sure who will coach us next year but it may be someone else and that someone may be the one that can get the best out of him.

Rippa Post mate, didn't know half of that about Cale, I too would hang on to him because as you said his trade value now would be way down. Take the punt that his value will go up and if it does then obviously he'll be playing good footy for us and we may choose to keep him.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
