Round 17 Results hurt MFC

I know if we are to play finals this year we need to start winning more games and with 7 games to go it should be still up to us. But gee there were some results this week that really hurt. Essendon comming back from a 36 point deficite to win. St.Kilda hanging on after it looked as though the Eagles were steam rolling them. Likewise with Freo hanging on against a late Swans charge. And I'm guessing the Dogs will probably beat North.

That Bombers win on Friday night was the closest I've felt to when Melbourne lose.

Funny one going on ATM Brisbane and Geelong scores level even with J. Brown kicking 0.1 and JPod with 5.0

(Make that Lions in front by a goal 25 min mark of 3rd qtr)

If you come 8th you will probably run into the Eagles in Perth.

I have Carlton finishing in 5th so Blues at the G I predict. Gonna be super hard now though due to the sides around us really peaking. I have Eagles 4th.

The loss to the Western Bulldogs really hurt in terms of our chances of finals footy. You'd have to think that we would need to win two of the next four, and our final three to assure a spot.

I give us a chance against Carlton and the Eagles.

Please please please let one result go our way this week, and let North win.

As disgusted as I feel saying this, because I loath North Melbourne and I wish them nothing but pain, we need to keep in touch with the Dogs if we're any chance of making the 8.

Sydney losing and Essendon winning has totally f'ed us up to be honest. We are only a slim chance of making finals now. We're going to have to pull some spectacular games out of our behinds or rely on everyone else completely blowing up to pieces. I thought Essendon were well on their way to doing that, but apparently not. Bastards!

Although realistically even if we do make finals, we're likely to get smashed first up. I'm thinking I rather finish 9th, give the boys some fire in the belly to go much harder next year, and not suffer a crushing loss to West Coast, or far worse... Carlton. *Shudder*.

Finally so far so good, 8 goal North qtr to 2. Maybe we'll get one result. Not sure about not wanting to play Carlton at the G in a final, surely wouldn't play defensive to soften the margin, if we are on and take the game on, who really knows. But even looking at the predictor a little biased a struggle to get us into 8th. Definitely need one of the next 4 and then the last 3, I think 11.5 will be good enough maybe % will be the difference. Still a long way to go and this w/end showed anyone on their day can win anywhere. We just have to be on!

Don't worry about other results. When we are good enough, we will make finals regardless. Not there yet. We haven't had one big scalp this year, so don't deserve to play finals in my opinion.

We havent even been competetive against the top 5 (haven't played Cats as yet) so unless we show more over the next three weeks wouldn't want to qualify this year

Hehe, it's about time we upset the Blues and knocked them out of the finals again (1988, 1994, 2000 - OK so we didn't knock them out in 1994 but sent them on their way beating them after finishing 7th and they finished 2nd. We also ruined their party in the last game at Princess Park).

We also owe them for those two losses in 2006 as well as the "bruise-free" comments this year. Beat them in 3 weeks and again in first week of finals would make my year.

I'm still struggling to see what's achieved by finishing 8th this year. If it's West Coast or Carlton it doesn't matter - we'll come up against a side a class or two above where we are and we'll be given a lesson. Sure it'd be nice for our guys to at least experience a final, but I don't care one way or the other whether we park in at 9th or 10th or if we fall over the line and finish 8th.

The results that actually hurt us far far more than any of those you mentioned, of which we had absolutely no control, were OUR inability to beat very out of form teams, I mean really badly out of form, namely North, Footscray and StKilda...........it is no good moaning about that which we cannot control, but I sure as hell have a big moan about those three totally inexcusable results.

There are always upsets, I'd rather they got a chance than to not get a crack, it's all experience and the reason why we play home and away games. I'm sure the boys playing care and I'm sure they'd give them selves a good chance against Carlton at the G in a final. Ok so we are a fair way behind as you mentioned but I'd take finals over missing out every time.

Exactly and on top of that I'm pretty sure the Stynes administration would be happy with a helpful cash injection that playing in the finals gives you. Not sure how much it is but something is always better than nothing.

I can't believe the amount of people on here have given up on this year with still 7 weeks to go.

Our finals campaign starts right now..(Like today).

Coaches and players are all under the pump...There is still so much we can achieve in 2011 yet, with the right mindset.

Hawthorn are a dam good side, but they are injured and can be beaten.

Geelong are good, but have been very lucky this year...Carlscum after the last "Bruise Free" game deserve a tough game.

Can we back up after a game in darwin??

Huge Test for the entire MFC this week and beyond.

You're assuming we won't improve. In our really good years over the past two and half decades we've had barnstorming finishes to the season. Get a fit and firing Davey back into our team and we're a Jack Grimes away from being at full strength.

It's one more game we get to see and one more game the team plays together.

This weeks results don't really matter at all, It in our own hands win and we make it lose and we don't.

true true

Essentially my point too

We had a chance to be 2 or 3 ahead of those teams, had we actually done the hard work and had the mantal toughness to beat them!!

Pretty much where I am at.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
