The Good

Martin

Our forward line

Sylvia

Maric

Petterd

LJ

Performing in crappy conditions

Frawley

Dom Cassisi playing brilliantly despite almost certainly being distracted

The Bad

Watts - just not his night

Scully until 3rd QT

The deja vu moment when it hit 14pts in the final quarter

Fading in and out of the game

The Ugly

Morton

Jones' mo - Jesus man, didn't you learn from Dunn?

Making the same mistakes and realising a better side would have demolished us

Surely Morton hits the ugly column. Replace him with Watts in the bad section, wasn't his game at all tonight but lacked effort, was often on his ass.

Loved Sylvia, was a warrior tonight, Petterd too was magnificent.

Posted

Why was Watts bad?

Just unlucky to an extent, but also lots of poor first efforts, average disposal and his 2 shots at goal were pretty poor. Poor after recent form. His second efforts (especially that steal!) were quite good, but often forced because he'd stuffed up his initial go at it.

Disagree about Watts, he worked hard, close in.

Thats what I meant sorry, Watts was just way below his previous weeks, but it's understandable as it was completely not his sort of conditions, he just looked absolutely wrecked after quarter time. Speed was out, and his attack at the ball was a bit tentative. Should bounce back next week.

Yeah I reckon you're right. Running around in the heat with a mop like that sucks...from experience too.

We did what needed to be done. A good win in the conditions and circumstances.

Take the four points and re-load for the Hawks next week.

Huge four weeks coming up!

the good.

Frawley- Thnaks danners for drafting him. Kept Schultz out of it

Pettard- Consistent game again

Jurrahs 3rd quarter

Stef MArtins work again

Moloney

Watts did some nice things. He doesnt look like a boy anymore, Now that he has bulked up and has a bit of abeard he now looks like a man

Winning the game. How much did we make even though it was a low crowd

The bad

Garland getting caught out a few times

Morton again

Some missed esy shots. You dont have to dribble the ball along the ground every time.

The fact we play hawthorn who will be fresh coming off the bye and we are coming back from darwin playing in 71% humidity

The ugly

not much

The Good

James Frawley: honestly I'm not sure if I've seen a better player wear red and blue. Fully fit again, he is just unstoppable when he plays like that. Amazing.

Stefan Martin: alright I'm gonna say it. Better than Jamar. At the moment anyway. Terrific last quarter.

Some good work by the usual suspects (Moloney, Sylvia, Jones) throughout the midfield.

Trengove, I do love you.

The Bad/Ugly

Don't like to divulge in this after a solid enough win but Morton worries me. And I've been a long-time Cale fan!

Posted

Can't believe Watts is copping flak. Those were the worst conditions for a big man possible.

Port's big man seriously struggled, and I'd say that we won because our big man in the end were better. Jamar was great in the ruck, Martin superb around the ground and Frawley destroyed his opponent.

Watts ran hard, worked hard, was as clean with the ball as anyone out there, but it just wasn't a night for tall leading forwards. As long as the effort is there, I'm happy.

Posted

Sorry forgot to add the bad/ugly.

Our stupid runner. Seriously I know it was an honest mistake but stay away from our player when they are kicking for goal. I reckon Green would have slotted it through.

Seriously it doesn't take much, does it?

How funny that green didnt know him from a bar of old soap though??!! just goes to show the runners worth in a club

Yeah, harsh it may be, but he was down on recent form tonight. It may have been a one-off, yeah, and next week will be telling of that.

Also, I try to have at least 3 in every section so I don't just lump bad and ugly together - means I generally try to make a funny while I'm at it.

Posted

Good was the cohesion in the forward line. Petterd. Stef Martin. Maric's first half. Sylvia and Trengove streaming towards goal.

Bad was the last quarter, Gysberts disposal and Jones' moustache.

Ugly was Nicholson's game apart from a decent goal he was caught regularly, gave away frees and scrubbed many of his kicks.

How good was gig Stef?

How SHITE is Tim Lane

How ugly are some posters even after a win in tough conditions

Yeh, he didn't seem our biggest fan tonight. Didn't like his claim that Petterd dropped his feet to win a free kick when he clearly slipped over.

Think Tim may have still had the [censored] on from the blues losing there 5th straight game to the filth!

Ill be glad when 10 lose the rights to televise the games.

Tim Lane, Michael Christian, Luke Darcy, Kelly Underwood, Matthew Llyod, Quarterbrain, Anthony Huddo. Who else?

I'm struggling to think of anyone from channel 10 that I actually enjoy listening to.

And Watts worked his backside off tonight. Ran very hard and was unrewarded on the stats sheet.

Posted

Heard from a good source before the match that Watts has been sick all week with the flu and nearly didn't make the trip.

I thought he was pretty good, maybe not as good as in previous weeks but most definitely not a liability......

But if this is true then his efforts were genuinely fantastic.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
