I would have thought you should have to be the one to elaborate since you drew the unfair analogy between Sampi and Woona. Maybe you should do some research into some of the off field challenges Sampi was dealing with.

Not unfair analogy in my opinion depending upon what way you perceive it, let me put it this way

both very talented forwards who can turn a game.

both had bad run with injuries

both had to deal with situations off the field which they had no control over

both talk about wanting to play AFL Finals -SAMPI was on the ground in 2006 shared the moment with the Eagles and said this only made him more determined to comeback and share in future success. Wonna said 2 weeks ago he wanted to comeback and play well for Casey and try and break into the Dees side should they make finals. What my inference with committment was it is all very well saying something and what you wish to happen but there is a big committment required to make these things happen.

Other matters may prevent you realising your potential, not having gone through what either of these two have had to endure nor wishing to I don't fully understand their mindset, but if you are committed why turn up to training pre season so badly out of condition and overweight that you are behind the 8ball.

So in closing I will say Sampi's talents have been lost to the game without him reaching the obvious potential he had and I believe Wonna may suffer the same fate.

I hope Aussie makes it, but I have my doubts. He is a straight kick, but he is not particularly big, strong or fast. I don't believe he has "the tools" to make it as a long term player in the AFL. Sampi most definitely did have the tools. Enormous leap, very fast, one-touch, a gun... if he had had a better run with injuries and got his head in the right place.

Much will depend on Austin's attitude and commitment to returning in 2012 and beyond and to the position a new coach takes on him.

I can see the possibility of him being delisted with a view to him being picked on the rookie list if he really wants to remain at the club and make a renewed tilt at remaining an AFL footballer.

That to me is his only possibility of remaining with the MFC.

At the risk of offending you with my negativity RR

I have always had doubts on Wona.

How many good games has he played?

From my reckoning 5 - 6, by good I mean ones that justified his selection the following week.

But the biggest problem is he does not make it onto the park very often.

I acknowledge he has had a bad run with injuries.

But I don't know if he has the will to get himself fit enough for AFL.

IMO if you cannot get onto the playing field on a regular basis

Then your chances of having an AFL career are severely limited.

The latest injury could not have come at a worse time for his future.

How long do we keep a spot on the list for him?

AT this point I would rather have Lawerence on the list.

The MFC has quite a few tough decisions to make over the next 3 months and he is one of them.

I don't think a rookie spot proposition is unreasonable for Aussie. He has to realise that he's coming off a small base in 2011 and even as a rookie he'll still have the opportunity to play senior games next year if he steps up.

Not for me but there seems to be an ellement within the MFC that see him as the chosen son or something similar.

He must be a really nice guy because he has IMO been cut a lot of slack over the years.

We dont have a class small forward. Everyone has their focus on the big bodied KPF. But it hurts every time the ball hits the ground up forward that we dont have a good crumbing forward with smart goal sense. This has given him some scope but the window is closing and the new coach will have fair say in that.

I agree with you on this, I never said we should keep him on the list, I beleive for his personal and injury matters he has not been able to get back onto the park, but on each occassion he has returned out of condition. I would de list him and tell him if he proves he wants it.

If he is committed we will see how he comes back pre season as proof and see how he trains over the pre season before offering him a final spot on the rookie list

Sampi had more control over the kitchen implement than Wonna had over his fathers situation. Sampi's issues were very much in his control regime. Wonna's issues are not on a par. There are better analogies for Wonna than Sampi.

I still think he is more worthwhile than Maric. Aussie is a great kick but more importantly, a good user who knows how to find the right spots. Maric is a good kick, has good skills, but can't put it together.

Aussie may not be fit until round three or four. He will effectively be missing the first four or five weeks of pre-season. Not ideal but if he manages not stack it on over the lay-off, he might be OK.
