Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Michael Newton is improving and should make an excellent captain in a couple of years.

For me Beamer. This year has proved that Green was a very bad call, and should have been Moloney.

Great when your "captain" goes out on the fizz and makes a social embarrassment of himself. Battled to hold the VC role.

Well, and I know I many will disagree with this, I am of the opinion that the club should be making some sort of guarantee of captaincy down the track (based on performance criteria of course), so that he is encouraged to remain at the club.

It cant if the players vote for captain. On the same performance crtieria then Scully is odds to be captain of GWS at some stage.

Short term Rivers is actually the most likely (according to current players).

Long term, give it to Trenners. His actions following his suspension have been a stand out for me in terms of poise, ability to speak to the media about a variety of issues, and his onfield actions have no peer.

Short Term - No

Long Term - Quite possibly.

JT for mine.

'Good times' Grimes may have straight laced leader written all over him, but you get the feeling from the snippets of Col Garland and Ricky bobbies articles that good times may just be too serious for the calling. He might end up a bit like Sam Mitchell - deadset gun however the 'spiritual leader' in Hodge was the real captain and has now been named. I reckon JT may end up the 'spiritual leadr' of this gorup coming through. don't know why just do. plus he's just an all out all round gun

How Aaron Davey has fallen...

I hope it's not an Adem Yze like decline at the end of his career.

Davey broke his leg last year against the hawks...ended his season. I wonder if that broken leg is partly to blame for his current issues.

Lets hope Davey can get back into the side.

Are we better off with a captain that we, the general membership, can get behind, who we trust in the media to say the right things, and perform on-field, performing bone crunching tackles and kicking 50m+ goals with ease, or...

Do we want a captain that never says anything to anyone, struggles to get a game in the best 22, but motivates the hell out of the rest of the team, pushing them to be their best each and every week?

I guess we have to ask, what is the role of the captain, and what is the role of the leadership group.

Jack Watts.

Reasons:

- Star: I believe he has more star potential than any other player on our list (admittedly, this is yet to be proven).

- Charisma: Some have it, others don't - Jack has it.

- Size: He is turning into a physical specimen - not that size is a prerequisite for leadership, but it certainly helps.

- Media: The camera loves him and he is very well spoken.

- Aggression: I think this is an underrated trait in Jack. He doesn't take a backwards step. With size and responsibility, will come more aggression.

- Teamplay: While watching him during games, I noticed he is very encouraging and positive towards teammates.

I don't think any other player on our list has this combination of leadership traits. Jack Watts for captain.

Trenners......the only young fella at the club with a bit of mongrel in him, and i think that is what this footy club lacks

Your not calling Jordie Mckenzie soft?

No doubt if Scully gives up squillions to stay with us there will be some 'sweeteners' in the deal...

If, scully changes his mind and stays,,,,, then he'll have to take some time to earn back the trust of the group, so they can believe him again....

....if he goes,,, he'll have the same problem @ the GWS,,, can they ever believe in him when he says something!!

!!!!!!!!!!!! Integrity,,,, born with it and carry it for years, till adolescence when we get some Latitude with It,,, 'til we're expected to 'Live Up to It',,,,, Or we will never have it again...

Frawley has shown the most leadership, courage and consistency out of the younger group of potential captains. He is the standout for the job IMO. Trengove is only playing his second year so it's too early to tell and Grimes is hard to judge because he hasn't come close to getting a full season under his belt.

And why are Jamar/Moloney on a poll for the player to "emerge as a long term captain"? They are 27 and 28 this year and Green is only in his first year as captain.

*Edit ... You're right, have removed Jamar, Moloney and Sylvia as choices. It is a "long term" Captain poll.

If Tom does decide to stay. I would have absolutely no problem with him being Captain from Round 1 2012.

He has the x factor that a great captain needs, just watch his final Quarter against the Dogs last year again.

Captaincy written all over it.

Don't blame Tom for holding out on a decision, with the HOA stalemate at present Blame the AFL if anyone.

I don't like the waiting either, but if no decision has been made do not blame Tom.

He will be a captain though.

I'm starting to like Beamer more than I ever have...But Beamer can't dominate against the higher ranked teams...his stats are great when we win and poor when we lose...is at the age of 27 so doesn't fit the longer term leadership plans of melb... and has admited he has a binge drinking problem...not a good look for a captain.

That being said...he hasn't been injured this year...has gained his VC back...if he can dominated the second half of the year against the higher ranked sides. He will strongly push his case..

Why single out Beamer? All our players are great when we're up, and go missing when we're struggling, before last week many, many on these forums were saying this about Sylvia.. He was brilliant and probably the only shinning light last week.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
