Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

2011 Draft

Could Someone please tell me what pick we would have if the season were to finish now

Also if someone could give the breakdown of what picks GWS get (basically a full run-down of the draft)

that would be fantastic.

I think GWS get something like 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15. Something Hideous like that!! i heard Shifter Sheahan talk about it all on SEN a few weeks back.

GWS get the same concessions, I'm pretty sure, which is picks 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 and the first pick of every round afterwards.

So as it currently stands, we are in line for pick 19.

Edit: Dammit, ninja'd. And Satan, compensation is decided by...someone I don't know of, but basically there's tiers - first-round pick, end-of-first-round pick, second-round pick, end-of-second-round pick or third-round pick. For the picks not at the end of the round, that pick comes instantly after your pick in that round - e.g. if we finished 8th (pick 19) and used a first-round compensation pick (hypothetically, we currently don't have one) then it would be pick 20, and every pick below us would be pushed back one. So if you finished bottom of the ladder with pick 1, and had a first-round compensation pick, you have the new Scullgove twins. :)

Would be nice if we could ship out a player (Bate?) to GWS + our first pick for a better pick.

Bate + pick 19 to GWS, pick 5 to Melbourne.

Me gusta.

No matter what happens with you know who, our club should lobby the AFL to ensure that any team which loses a #1 draft selection would be compensated with the first pick in this year's draft. That's a lot fairer than having such a player stolen by GWS for pick 17!

The response I'll see from the AFL is that if they had to match Tom Scully as a number one pick then they'd have to match Watts, then Kreuzer, Gibbs, Murphy, Deledio and so on. Where would the cutoff be?

From a realistic and common sense point of view it's unfair not to receive the first pick in the event that he left, but from an AFL point of view, it's unfair to give us the first pick.

The AFL point of view should be to protect the integrity of the competition and not to create conditions under which it is well nigh impossible for a club to retain an outstanding player aged under 21.

So there you have my cut off if you like. The players you cite are all over 21 and have all given their clubs more than two years' service. In my view, it's absolutely unconscionable that a situation should be allowed to arise whereby there is even a question of uncertainty about the future of a player of top calibre at such a young age.

If the AFL decided to compensate TS for pick 1, I wonder if GWS would abandon the deal.

Good luck trying to get the AFL to agree to anything that disadvantages GWS. Won't happen.

Pisses me off that our own CEO supported this rubbish when clubs were being questioned about draft picks and compensation levels for GC/GWS!

Surely it'd be like all other compensation picks, in that it can be used in any of the next 5 years, but if you use it this year you'd have to wait until GWS had their picks.

The very fact that the club hasn't (publicly at least) lobbied the AFL is a positive sign.

I can't see why they would care - it's not their pick.

He is saying "if we don't get the first pick in the draft then Scully isn't worth it."

Doesn't hold much water for mine, being pushed back a place is nothing - the talent you are going to get is going to be good anyway...

Whereas if you recall last year, Geelong did come out at some stage with concerns about the compensation "IF" they did lose Ablett to GC.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
