He'll definitely get the ax this week. His body language after sh***ing himself in front of the Melbourne cheersquad and handing the Saints a goal was an absolute disgrace. Really, really disappointing. He just stopped and stooped down, head down to the ground, like he'd just been giving a spanking by his dad or something. He was genuinely embarrassed.

Absolute garbage. There is something seriously wrong at the club. Smells like festering discontent from a carcass full of maggots.

Please explain why what I said was absolute garbage.

And tell me how our senior players are better than WCE's senior players.

I so want to punish thi sguy. I so want to banish his to the archipeligo that would it would seem, going to the magoos. I want him to hurt as much as i hurt when i watch him now. But then that becomes all about me.

Possibly the more scolding a punishment and more effective a remedy is to require that he does actually run out for the seniors but that he is made accountable for everything. Let him not hide in obscurity . That might be too easy an out for him. He could run and dance and sing his footy song at Casey. It would be all too easy.

Maybe he is very much simply out of sorts. It happens. it happens to all of us in our lives at times. We get into a funk and its bloody hard to get out of it.. He may wel lbe sh!tty about a lot of things. Its all culminating in his onfield performances ( a kind description )

Im now leaning towards the notion of re-inventing him. Instead of labouring him with soome Hurculean task this week give him a much simpler one. One he CAN wrap his teeth around and one he might succeed in. This might become a platform for restablishing himslef. We know he has talent.

No...demoting him might be too simple and too easy .

Lets play tag the tagger. Lets get him to nullify someone. It might just exorcise his Demons.

Nup. Too nice and too easy. Like we always are. Sends the wrong message.

You pike, you squib, you sulk ... you go to Cranbourne.

If you can't get out of your 'funk' ... then take your 400 grand pay-out and 'funk' off.

I think its too easy to just send him there. Yep ..you squibbed.. you balls up more than a handful of opportunities...go be the bad boy sookilala in the magoos. In all reality he can do this on his head. Sure it would be notionally humiliating but would he really learn ?

MNaking him front up again at teh G..and giving him a truly punishing role ...that might ram a better message through his skull... i.e there is no easy punishment here.. you WILL do hard time.

Playing seconds is a doddle for someone like Davey.. thats...TOO easy for mine..

I see it as.. dont let him off th ehook with an easy weekend...make him go out there and do "something " properly... Much harder...ANd by doing so he might earn himself some respect.. and come away with some SELF-respect....That might be more useful in the long run

some will disagree... thats OK :)

The problem is you start applying different rules for different players. What would Bennell and Morton make of the different outcome for Davey? What happens to a battler like Bartram if he squibs a few contests? Does he also get to stay up and 'learn'?

No, we've got to stop treating certain players as 'special cases' at Melbourne and apply an iron fisted rule.

There'll be some pain along the way but the weaklings and those without the stomach for a fight will get weeded out.

I will be horrified if Davey is selected against Carlton.

Terrible idea. Make a creative player play a negator. May as well ruck him for 4 quarters.

For what he did given his position in the team and the way he did it there is an important meassge in addition to getting him focussed on winning more of the pill.

We need Davey back in the team actually playing with a bit of mojo. He needs to start the road back from Csaey.

Sub.

He'll be embarrassed, not to mention livid.

Will come on in the third/last and destroy; will find some small amount of redemption.

The entire playing group, but more importantly the youth will understand this move without any explanation necessary - nobody is safe.

Spot on. I reckon this is what will and should happen.

And I'm not buying into the argument that we don't have anyone else to come in, that we've got too many injuries.

Have a look at Evans, straight in off the rookie list and had a red hot crack.

Bring in Lawrence, bring in Howe. Any kid who's shown a bit who looks like they have a bit of ticker and won't drop their head.

No more sacred cows!

how predicatable... Rhino say balck to anothers white.. ffs mate..its tiring.

You want him up and running.. well in this id agree.. But hes of littel use in teh magoos ..is he.. what effect does he have at the G if hes at casey ?? NONE..

What he needs needs to relearn is accountability. He needs to stick to a task and make it his, He might actually learn somethig by trying to outguess and neutralise the opposition instead of sooking that someones picking on him.

he needs to get his head inside the enemies and undertand what theyre doing to him...then he might be cleverer at evadiing and dealing with his own tags.

Make the hunted...the hunter..

but youd never get that.

so whats your solution bright spark ??

come up with something.. dont sit on the fence forever taking potshots.. thats lazy... maybe thats why you afford Davey his easy out... you know it well.

Simple (one-week) solution. Play him as a forward pocket. Instruct him not to leave the forward 50 even when the flood is on. It will take out a defender and with a huge amount of space and Davey's (once famous) leg speed might bring him into the game.

Good games, bad games are one thing, but the contest he squibbed on the half forward flank was as bad as it gets. I'm sorry, but a first gamer gets excused. A vice captain? Bye bye to Casey. No other choice. If we don't, we're not fair dinkum.

Spot on

Posted

It's not that he needs to be punished. I'm sure if he had his choice, he wouldn't be playing this way. He just needs to find form. Get 20+ quality touches, make some tackles, get a feel for the game again. He can't do that at top level because top level is not used to run someone into form. So give him some time at Casey to do it. IT IS NOT A PUNISHMENT, it is for everyone's best interest.

I could not think of an easier out than playing him again this week. And also in a role he would have minimum impact given he is to "re learn" the caper.

His issue is that he is not trying..period. How can a player get 9 possessions, squib efforts, give away goals and let his tagger/his direct opponent gain 22 possessions?

I have already stated my view earlier in the thread. Thanks for the profundity.

That won't happen

we would have to change the game plan

There has been no one in the forward 50 for 2 years

you are asking for a revolution.

There is a better chance of me getting a game on friday night.

I am getting worried this is the third time I have agreed with you in 24 hours.

Again... ..tis is really simple..

What wil lhe gain from playing the Magoos ? what

If he serves pennace in front of a few hundred as compared the searing scorn of thousands ??

He can canter at half pace at Cranny and still look like hes trying...there's teh easy out.

Chasing an oppo all lday and having to best him... well Rhino Id suggest hed need to be trying a bit harder..

I do agree..effort is the issue. Its accountability he needs \.

Aaron Davey let his Team mates down on Saturday...He does not deserve to be in the side, untill he wants to fight for his possessions.

Back to Casey for a stint, and then when he is playing with some fire, bring him back as the Sub.

His Behavior on Saturday must never be accepted at this club EVER again.

This is part of the Culture we are all looking for...

I Hope "Flash" comes good...but it is up to him.

2011 MFC stats.

He's 4th in disposals (2nd in kicks behind Beamer) and 6th in tackles for the club.

He deserves a game this friday to redeem his performance on the weekend.

Flash is a top 5 player at the club.

Name 5 above him based on the season and who we have available for Friday.

Beamer, Syl, Jones, Green (he had a similar performance - WCE).

Things I will concur:

He most certainly let his tem mates down

His behavious on Sat must never be accepted

Its up to him.

Yep..yep..yep yep and yep.

But i really dont see any point in telling him to go sit in the naughty corner.

He needs to learn accountability. He needs to learn about real effort. Does he get this by languishing in happy valley ? How doeshe learn playing at a level where 90% is fine ?

He nneds to be shown the erro of his ways for sure but by application not participating in pedestrian procession.

he needs to up his work rate...not reduce it.

Yes they do.

And that is why we aren't very good.

The quicker Trengove, Watts, Scully, McKenzie, et al. become our top players the better.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
