Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The Varcoe Tackle

Tigers Dayz

Recommended Posts

just posted this in another thread.

will travis varcoe go for his tackle on goldsack. chased him down, slung him to the ground and he hit his head as he fell. pinned both arms so goldsack couldnt cushion his fall. while he wasnt injured, if this is the stance the afl wants to take in terms of protecting the head, then surely he has to be reported. (he definitely shouldn't, it was a great tackle, but this is the afl we are talking about.)

Ye I just saw that!!was worst than trenners tackle!if cited he should get 3 weeks for that!they have to be consistent!also good on goldsack for getting up straight away!he was tackled just as hard as dangerfield and his head hit the ground yet he got up straight away and didn't put on a pathetic performance like dangerfield!3 weeks

Unfortunately, unless you are knocked out, it will not be a reportable offence.

This does not mirror the bump, where Campbell Brown missed Barry Halls head when he took him front on, but still got weeks.

As with most things AFL, inconsistency rules.

if the AFL believe that kind of tackle is dangerous they are being negligent in allowing them to occur as part f the game many times. They are inviting the injury in allowing it and then blaming the player when it goes wrong.

I just can't see how it can be anything other than an acident when such a tackle (pinned arms and slung) happens so frequently in a game.

It should be about technique and process not result or as I said the AFL are inviting it and the ones being negligent.

Trengove is just unlucky that dangerfield went to kick and was off balance as he was tackled. But he wasn't when he committed to the tackle and was not something Trengove could have been aware of in the 1.3 seconds it took to complete the tackle. As in most circumstances ie. Most of the tackles tonight and even the one he lays 5 seconds latter there is no problem.

So lets get this straight, a tackle can be laid & completed & is perfectly legal until the recipient hits his head & is concussed right? So one second it is legal & then the next it becomes illegal. Makes perfect sense to me.

The question is whether forceful impact is made to the head. If this has occurred the offence is the same as Trengoves however it will probably only worth one week as it will not be judged as high impact.

The issue of concussion is irrelevant on the negligent and High contact points allocation, through it does play into the assessment of the force of the incident

Can we get any isolated footage of this Varcoe tackle, and make it available as a direct comparison to the Trengove tackle, perhaps to headline the 'Free Jack' Facebook page?

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
