just remember guys nick reiwoldt started in defence when he started playing.

Dazzle, really, he's all flash and No pan. Him and Montagna are the reasons the saints are rooster teasers. He's really about 60% as good as he appears. He's do well as a magician.

I must add that the VFL reserves fixture is an absolute nightmare to work out.

The Casey Scorpions have already had one bye earlier in the season and have a bye this week and again next week. That's three byes in their first eight rounds.

They played their first and only home game for the season a fortnight ago when they beat Frankston by over 100 points. Their next two games after the byes are away from home so they don't play their second home game for the year until the mid-point of the season in round 11.

The reserves have played five games this year, two of them against the Northern Bullants and, of course, both of them have been away games.

Even in tomorrow's practice game against Cranbourne at Casey Fields there's no home ground advantage because the two clubs share the venue although there has been some controversy locally about that because the powers that be want the Cranbourne team to play on ovals other than the main ground. I don't want to buy into that particular issue but it's good to see the two clubs co-operating in holding this game and I wish that there was more of it in the area.

The two byes in a row would have severely hampered the return of players coming back from injury like Jordie McKenzie, Robert Campbell and youngsters Troy Davis and Cameron Johnston so it's good to have a local club like Cranbourne coming in to lend support.

Over the years of VFL alignments with both Sandringham and Casey, many players began their rehabilitation from injuries in the reserves sides and rather than dump alignments, we will be better off strengthening the local areas and teams in order to improve the standards of our lists and our support base.

What a shambles. Maybe they should merge the VFL 2's with the TAC Cup? Would at least give 'the kids' (the TAC Cup ones) a chance to play against some mature players without being totally outclassed.

I care about one thing and one thing only... The JMac getting through the whole match without his groin exploding, thus pushing his case for selection next week. Amen

I hope they win convincingly. I want next weeks INs to be difficult choices - but in a good way.

Kelvin Lawrence shows some pace to kick Casey's second but a 50 metre penalty to the Bombers gives them a 27 point lead late in the quarter.

The siren goes and it's 6.5.41 to 2.2.14.

Please tell me Gawn is dominating the ruck and will be thrown into the side next week

who from the dees have been playing well so far WJ

Nobody really standing out. Matty Bate should be back next week. Jordie McKenzie is getting into the game.

Sam Blease just kicked his second.

Half time: Bendigo Bombers 12.5.77 to Casey Scorpions 7.6.48

Bendigo kicked the last four quarters just as Casey was fighting its way back into the game. I like Max Gawn's game in the ruck but then again, I am his sponsor :) .

Jordie McKenzie hasn't lost the ability to tackle. Matthew Bate is doing well and will be back at Melbourne next week.

Early goal to Jeremy Howe reduces the lead to 25 points. A pass from Kelvin Lawrence to Fevola for a long goal, quickly followed by another off the carpet to Fev. 11 points in it.

Ahh...Melbourne players... really shine at the Magoos

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
