Who's going to get games now?

We've lost 3 more top-22 ers to add to the 3 we alread had out (Grimes, Trengove, Jamar, Scully, McKenzie, Rivers)

So 6 blokes are getting a game this week that wouldn't have been. This could motivate the whole of this group and force some talent to bloom. They will be put in more important roles than they otherwise would have and someone could be unearthed. At the very least it is a development period for fringe players that will need to step in over the upcoming years at various stages. Dean Bailey gets the chance to try a few things and a few blokes. This is my attempt at finding the positive.

Bate

Warnock

Wonaeamirri

Tapscott

Gysberts

Bail

Maric

Bennell

Morton

Martin

Blease

Cook

Howe

Strauss

Jetta

Newton

MacDonald plus all the other brand new guys we don't really know yet

This group has room for the best 6 to go to AFL level for the upcoming month or so while the side tries to hang in the 8 until players return.

Who are your 6 players to replace our 6 injured?

For mine:

Grimes - Morton

Trengove - Gysberts

Jamar - Martin

Scully - um... Tapscott

McKenzie - Bail

Rivers - MacDonald

then you've got Bennell, Ozzie and Maric

DemonWa and RM both Nicholson and Evans have been much better than Strauss and Blease over the Casey Games so far .

IMO they both deserve a run at senior level before S and B, trouble is they are Rookies and would need to be elevated.

Depends on the role to be filled.

Blease or Strauss would be better on a HBF than Evans.

But Blease is recovering from concussion and I think would need to re-find form at Casey first and Strauss is recovering from when Dunn ran through him at training in Perth, reportedly putting him out for a month.

It's only been 2 weeks.

Artie, were you a rookie on an AFL list at some stage and never got promoted?

I think if the Trengove suspension stands we might see an early elevation of Evans or Nicholson. Strauss is also a chance at getting that spot.

I'd prefer that over bringing back Morton or Bennell.

Those rookies really have a go, and in the crushes. That will be important against north at Etihad. AT Edies'hat, you don't want so much outside players, but rather hard running inside type players, with composure.

No.

I just understand the reasoning and circumstances related to the promotion of rookies.

And it seems like you don't.

Wish I was though.

Where did you hear that?

On here, funnily enough.

Not necessarily the best source, but I've no reason to disbelieve it.

I didn't notice anyone come out & refute it.

Can't remember if I also saw it elsewhere, but I'm pretty sure Strauss didn't play on the weekend, which would lend weight to it.

What part of Michael Evans' recent form doesn't warrant a rookie promotion, especially now that we have a midfield/half back flanker on the LTI list, and no primary list players showing the form that Evans is at Casey? If, in your opinion, he doesn't deserve such promotion, then what criteria do they have to meet?

The rookie list has been created for situations like this, but your not willing to make use of it? there has to be an underlying factor on your thought process - Evans has the best form at Casey, even better than primary listed players, money shouldn't be an issue, especially if he can take that form in to the seniors, would be worth every cent.

Let's put it this way, at the start of the year we were able to promote 1 rookie becuase of our veteran status. We chose Juice. Let's play hypotheticals now and pretend we took Evans instead. Given our current injury situation, would you be wanting the Club to promote Newton now? I have no doubt you wouldn't given your stand on the rookie situation, but as a replacement for Spencer, we'd have to consider Juice or Campbell. Oh that's right, we shouldn't promote for the sake of promoting.

The FD will only promote a rookie when they are ready to play him

So if they deem Evans is ready (which I'm inclined to) he will be promoted - simple as that

(the situation with Juice is a different set of rules and had to be done at season start)

Sorry DC, I thought you would've been able to tell I knew that already!

Further to this, the rookie can only be promoted when there is a Long Term Injury. This is the first opportunity for the year (apart from the Newton scenario) where the Club has had the opportunity to make a promotion. I think Evans is more than ready given his form at Casey, but as you said, they will only promote him when they think he is ready.

I would be quite happy to see Evans get a game.

With Jamar out for seemingly @ least 4 weeks, or more, IMO the first Rookie elevation should be Campbell, they may elevate 2 @ the same time tho.

I'd love to see Evans, or Nicholson, promoted, as I've watched both and they seem impressive.

PS: I like the speed I've seen with Nicholson, but with not knowing the No's early season, I was getting both mixed. Both good.

JUICE will get a game or the FD made a really bad error with their first rookie decision, Juice is the versatile player we need atm imo, ruck and forward option if he cant get a game under these circumstances after kicking 2 bags of goals already for Casey then im stumped.

I also think that both Evans and Nicholson are deserving of a shot...only one will get a gig though should be very interesting, i think that both of these players are in better form than, Bennell, Morton and Jetta

Also Macdonald is very in fine form in my opinion, is to good for the VFL, this could be his opening... big body, mature etc experienced

He's done (very) well of late which is great to see, but I think you're stretching it a bit there. Gotch listed Bennel as our best last week, Bate the week before, and if you go back earlier, Evans gets a good wrap but not really anything more.

Think for changes this week, we'll go for the obvious (e.g. Martin) and/or experience (e.g. Joel Mac). Still a bit of water to go under the bridge re Rivers, Martin and Trengove yet, fingers crossed. I would have thought Bennel and Jetta would be closer than Evans or Nicholson.

this is a good positive post,i am particularly looking to morton ,he is not my kind of footballer, but then again football is played differently these days.

we have a shocking record at etihad so i am looking forward to morton using his extraordinary ball use in the result of loose ball gets.i would like to see the onus put on him to see if he can indeed be our link man,i would like to see him stay goal side of his opponent and kick some goals.think embley, goddard when in this role

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
