Did anyone receive a phone call tonight from a player

We had Sam Blease ring my house to speak to my brother about re signing. The funny thing is he already had round 1 but it must have got lost between the mcg and the office.

Anyway just interested because I wonder if there was anyone who had the guts to say why should I buy a membership when you guys are getting paid heaps & not performing.

I also wanted to know if the youngsters called because supporters would be a little easier on them.

I don't think they need to cop that when all they are trying to do is make a friendly call to get a member to renew....... especially a kid like Blease. The players and coach have been beaten up enough by the media this week without having to cop it on the phone from supporters!

I'm embarrassed to say that I watched the footy show tonight, and I even saw footage of Bailey working the phones!

I think he would have copped a right earbashing.

May I ask why everyone has such great hatred towards the Footy Show? I know it's not top-line football reporting, but most AFL fans should reap some enjoyment from it.

I find the humour juvenile and it's the only footy show that I won't watch .

Also hated the fact Maguire , and Newman would use it as their personal soapboxes .

It is horribly contrived and predictable comedy, executed poorly and has little to do with football. There are moments where they could be analysing a game or interviewing a player but we're still waiting for them to finish a joke we knew the punchline to a good hour and a half beforehand.

It's aimed at the bogan market.

I agree that it has a fair bit of crap. I cant stand Craig Hutchinson, and oddly enough I think Gary Lyon is a [censored]. But I still find myself watching it most weeks. Basically because it is about football. However, I wont lose any sleep if I go to bed early or dont watch at all.

The show does seem to cop a lot of critisism. It seems that people that dont like it, need to tell others that they dont like it. Why? This is in general public, not just confined to this site.

Great urban legend about Brad Miller ringing a bloke up and him saying "You're the reason I didn't renew"

Presumably this was before Brad was with Pia or the comeback would have been obvious..

Can't stand the parasite Hutchison either and also think Lyon is a [censored] . That hospital sketch he was involved with Crawford they did a few years ago was about the last straw . Lyons standing nose dived from there with me and for that reason shudder at the thought of him coaching (not that it will happen).

Cause I was asked .

On the subject of receiving calls from players to renew membership . Geez , at times like these I'd love to receive 1 , ask them "What the F... is going on down there ?" I got 1 from a volunteer under danihers reign , after assuring him that I still intended to join I asked him if he saw the dribble we dished up the previous 2 games . "Your a Melbourne supporter" I told him , "You know how I feel." We ended up lamenting how disappointing we were together over the phone . Brothers in Arms .

I've done the phone thing for the club as a volunteer and it always amused me when people took that attitude. I alwys wanted to give them a critique of their support? I reckon they are the type of people who are happy to jump back on board in the good times whilst the supporters who stick fat keep the club going during lean times.

If I was doing it now I would just remind them that we are 20,000 members and about 3 million dollars behind Collingwood and of Ron's mantra, "if it is to be, it's up to me"

Let's face it . Collingwood fans get value for money , they've been up around it for years and I'm sure many of those extra 20,000 you speak have jumped on board during the last 2 . Do you think they're on the phones looking for lost members ?

Maybe they are , I don't know .

With our clubs record , I'm proud of the amount that do indeed stick fat .

We've put up with a hell of alot of mediocrity over the years and this year looks more of the same .

Jimmy wanted 40,000 members during the offseason , if they players had've produced some enthusiasm for the contest till now I'm sure he woulda got them but ..... No , momentum lost .

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
