One thing that was nice about the bye this week was not going through the agonising decision of whether to tip the dees out of loyalty or whether to pick based on who I honestly think will win. I know that every time I tip I have this horrible decision to make so to have a week off was nice. I almost always end up going with my heart, as I tend to think that supporting my team is a bit more important than winning a small amount of dosh. However I have no problem with those who do, as they probably do far better in tipping competitions than I, especially the last couple of years. Although the worst thing that can happen is to tip against the dees and have them get up, did it once and never again....

So what of my fellow demonlanders? In our week off I thought maybe you all could shed some light on the age old heart or head tipping dilemma...

I used to always tip Melbourne as I didn't want any incentive to want us to lose, even if it was the most minor of minor reasons. Then it became necessary for us to lose for a period of time and my reasoning for not tipping against us went from seeming important to seeming trivial and silly.

I now always tip who I think will win. It doesn't affect the outcome and tipping against the team doesn't impact on my desire for it to play its best footy and win the match. And if I can benefit from the side losing in the form of winning the tipping, then great.

I don't go in tipping competitions anymore!! i know it is pathetic, but i hate that awful feeling when i picked against the Demons and they win.

I can see our "Great Norm" giving me the Bird, and i feel ashamed....so i refrain from tipping comps.

Doesn't stop me having the odd Bet though, odds change like a good set of waves B)

Not tipping this year, but it depends. I'll go head if it's a situation like the last couple of years. However, if it's a 50-50 or even a 60-40 against I'll tip the Dees.

More often than not I pick against the dees. Firstly cos we're not very good, and then also because if we lose, I get a point in the tipping, if we win... well... we win. So I get something out of it regardless.

I was exactly the same, I only really started tipping against us during that 2008-2009 period.

When Melbourne yo-yoed in and out of the finals under Daniher, I would get the jump on the rest of the competition in the even years and fall away in the odd years.

In my maybe 20 years of tipping. I can honestly say that i have never tipped against the Dee's. And I never will. I have twice won the comp I was in. Both times when we were one of the top sides. I dont care if others do or dont. The sad truth is every week, no matter how badly we are playing, I will always think that we are some chance to win.

Go Dee's.

I tip who I think will win. This year I have tipped us every week so far, for that very reason, and I will be tipping us to beat the Eagles on Thursday night.

Well I didn't tip us this week...

I used to tip us every week because I thought it would be wrong not to do so. Then I started losing tipping competitions. Now I usually tip us in Round 1, regardless of the opponent, but after that I tip us only when I think we'll win, like any other team/game.

I treat tipping as a contest in itself.. you can only apply logical reasonings and discerned expectations. I love all the wallies that back their teams in week in week out religiously.. They probablywonder why they never get a prize !!

Ill tip Melb every week when their good enough....Somehow thats not this year

I'd like to think I tip with my head rather than my heart, but I suspect emotion sometimes takes over...but not in he way you might think. I reckon I'm a harder marker for the Dees so am more likely to tip against than for when it's a true 50-50 proposition. I'm probably a bit like the coach who has his own child in his team and treats him more harshly than the rest of the side to avoid being accused of favouritism.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
