Tom Scully Injury

Dee Fan

Recommended Posts

Last week on Footy 360 they said the injury was more than likely going to be double (at least) the reported four weeks.

They must know more than our football department knows about Scully's injury because the official club line on Tuesday was three weeks (Injury Update).

You would think that the club knows and that the club is being transparent with members and supporters.

The issue isn't with our medical staff, it is the fact we have had so many young players come onto our list. Most young players will have some sort of injury through the fist couple of years of AFL. Like any professional athlete you are going to get injured, young players are trown into the AFL system and the clubs try to manage work loads but it takes time get get young players developed enough to cope with AFL training. On top of this we also had a few years when the cue went into the rack early and any player that had a smallniggle was spelled.

If we still have this issue when our players mature then we have issues but for now this is just growing pains.

You've made some poor posts, but this shows you really have no clue and are happy to wildly speculate.

You obviously have no clue and so accuse me of wild speculation .

Not to worry , you can remain blissfully clueless . ;)

It probably shows how we are careful in not playing the kids whilst injured so that we can prolong their careers, rather than shortening them in a blind attempt to win a few more games now.

It is also probably demonstrative of the gap in talent in the mid-age bracket at our club - in other teams, kids being injured and not being able to play might be more easily missed, as they aren't desperate to push the kids into the senior side as soon as possible.

Someone like Sam Reid at Sydney has had injury, but we don't hear about it because last year Bradshaw, Goodes and White were able to carry the load in attack and the team still performed well enough to make finals.

Perception isn't always reality.

Lewis Johnston would be a better example at Sydney.... High draft pick (Same year as Watts) that was not expected to step straight into their forward structure... Hasn't played a game yet due to injuries and form

Tom Lynch at StKilda is similar as well...

Once again, another one of our young posters has been called clueless.

The reason - Melbourne's medical staff.

Cause and effect.

Some early draft picks from last year are struggling. Morabito is out for the season for Fremantle and now this with Scully. Glad Trengove is fit, and Martin for the Tigers. Hope this isn't true, but it's not looking good. The more he misses, the less likely GWS will chase him in my opinion.

Maybe it was GWS that said to Tom to go down with knee "soreness", and milk it for as long as you can.

A soreness issue is like a soft tissue issue, it's almost impossible to detect on scans, xrays, etc. Classic Work Cover injuries are soft tissue injuries. They can take as long as they want to heel, because it's hard for a doctor to disagree without evidence.

First and last time I'm commenting on the Scully issue.

Never mind the fact the "soreness" is the result of a stress fracture which I think you will find is detectable on scans, xrays, etc.

Sad but true , I mentioned this in the Injuries thread the other day .

Our second rate medical staff botched the rehab of an off season knee Op .

Tell me the basis for this accusation. If you have no foundation for it then you should be banned from the site. but if you are right then it is grounds for discussion. These sort of comments are very easy to make, but unless you can support them with fact, then you should go away....

Christ this is hard to take.

Out injury record for new recruits is appalling. Are we the worst in the league ?

Other teams have also gone through it. North have not had a good run lately, Freo also. Bombers are still waiting on Gumbleton, Max Baily has had a shocking time at Hawthorn. It is just unlucky at times.

I would also be waiting on word from the club before we get carried away. I know it doesn't sound good, but I make a general rule to not listen to anything much of what triple Eddie has to say.

My post was tounge-in-cheek and I apologise for the silly remark (it's Friday arvo and I'm hanging for the weekend!).

However, I, like many, am reading in to the Tom Scully a bit too much. But one thing I did notice (or to the point, didn't notice) was the words "Stress Fracture" in any article. I remember the word "Stress" being used, but no mention of fracture. That's why I made my silly comment!

I'm happy to be shown the article if it does say fracture in it, I just don't remember seeing it. But you're spot on, stress fractures do show up on xrays, been through that myself a few times.

Yes, and what's in it for the medicos to minimize the lead time. Their incentives if anything are to err on the pessimistic side to avoid exactly this sort of conversation

This was the quote in the Herald Sun;

"Demons doctor Andrew Daff confirmed the young gun was suffering from "bone stress" in the kneecap. "The best course of action is for Tom to undergo a period of rehabilitation while resting from football loads," Daff said.

In my expertise as a google-medico, there is a difference between stress fractures and stress on the bones.

I have been laughing over this line for the last 5 minutes.

Do you have a copyright on it ?

I believe I have occasion to use that line in my occupation at least a dozen times a day.

Thanks for throwing that flaming turd out there..just love it !

My turn to apologise... it was actually somewhere in between what we were saying "The scans detected bone stress in Tom’s left knee cap." - anyway, whatever it is, it was detectable from scans obviously :-)

This is also bordering libellous. What are you going to do, throw in a no foundation scandalous accusation, then say this is the last time you comment.

This site is getting beyond the pale from some posters. No-one should make these sorts of accusations without foundation. If they have them then table them, otherwise be quiet.

Last sunday when we got 2 points from the Swans.

i'll see that and raise you a 'Collingwood stuffs up paperwork and allows Liam Jurrah to go to the PSD'

or Lethal Leigh and Brett Ratten giving up first round draft picks for Johnstone and McLean

Could I split Aces and double up on not selecting Troy Taylor in the draft and not recruiting Fev when he was offered to us by Carlton.

Dees, I have apologised for my little spin. It is in no way meant to be an accusation, and if my comment is a scandal, well I apologise for that too. Whilst my comments have obviously upset a few of you, you are taking them far too seriously. I for one do not want to lose Tom, and will have tears if he does leave, but at the end of the day, regardless of what comments are made on this side, idiotic or realistic, we as members have absolutely no power to ensure he stays. Because of this, I am writing to ask people not to take things so seriously and worry about the things we can control.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
