What happens if we start 0-4 or 0-5

Do you remember this one RPFC?

Yeah, I was pretty happy with it.

I knew this year would be frustrating.

Alright, as long as you are willing to put up with 12 losses and some very awful displays on occasion.

I didn't realise how frustrating, of course...

I can understand why you are going through the old posts from the beginning of the year but I was not the 'Neville Chamberlain' of 2011.

I knew we didn't have the senior players to progress in 2011.

Here's hoping the kids take over in 2012.

I predict that if we start at 0-4 or 0-5 next year the following events will occur:

  • People will be screaming for the heads of Morton, Jones and Bennell (assuming they are still at the club).
  • They will also say Josh Mahony has to go because our forwards lack structure and leadership (once again assuming he is still around)
  • There will be at least one person on these boards declare that they are sick of the heartbreak and are never going to another Melbourne game again.
{*}The theme of "we should have taken Martin/Cotchin/Rioli will be revised.

I feel very safe in my predictions.

even at the start of the year you were pessimist. :)

That wasn't pessimism it was realism.

We were talking it up and dismissing our pre season form which was terrible; big mistake. I get sick of the pie in the sky crap that some on here spout about how good we are and how god our list is, it's not and as soon as the club and the supporters realise this they can do or will do something about it. I get young kids on here telling me I don't know what I'm talking about, well if you look at this you will see I'm closer to the mark than most of them. I know this club I've seen it all before and this latest debacle worries me, we have collected some cash and now we expect everything to fall in to place and it won't.

I've followed this club for many years and desperately want them to succeed, I convinced my boys to support them, my Grand children as well and it hurts to see them as bad as they are.

We need a genuine overhaul of all departments of the club, professionally done so everyone knows what their function is and everyone works together, it is ridiculous to expect G Lyon to do this on an ad hoc basis.

We need a proper list management so we don't have the stupid situation of having to demote two players to the Rookie list so we can use another pick or two in the draft.

We need to become professional and stop being run like an under 18 team. The idea of the CEO interfering with the Football Department is a joke and the fact that Connoly hasn't been seen for months is worrying, do we actually have a Football Manager any more?

You really did put your balls on the line didn't you?

I'm not going through the old posts from the beginning of the year I just brought up a couple that might give a few posters something to reflect on.

I copped a lot of stick, and still do, because I don't sugar coat it and tell it how it is.

well if you look at this you will see I'm closer to the mark than most of them.

Really?

it wouldn't surprise me if we were 1 and 3 at the end of the fourth.

Wrong.

We got thrashed by Brisbane at Princess Park and the score line flattered us, their players were better than ours on every line and their desire for the ball was greater; anyone putting the third round match against them as a win should think again.

Wrong.

Sydney will beat us easily

Wrong.

but we may beat the Gold Coast, I wouldn't put my house on it though.

We beat them by 90 points.

I bumped a few threads myself a few weeks ago, RF.

One of them basically said that our senior players wouldn't allow us to be a middle of the road team in 2011 so I knew what was coming.

You cop stick because you look at the grim reality and see the Grim Reaper...

Huh. The demotion of Meesen and Newton was a demonstration of clever list management by opening places on the list to more preferred options. What was your problem with that given you called it a "stupid situation"?

Why do you want to murder your wife?

Classy and thoughtful response.

You cop stick because you look at the grim reality and see the Grim Reaper...

Absolutely spot on.

You do understand I was responding to this don't you, you do get it don't you?

If not perhaps you should look it up.

Almost like Pagliacci....

He was a Clown too.

Read the whole thing and get back to me.

Newton should never have been offered a two year contract in the first place that's why it was stupid.

The reality is indeed grim we are no better off now that we were two years ago.

Grim Realist I reckon, you can have your head in the sky with your rose coloured on but it doesn't help when you get to the end of another year and it's still the same old same old.

You do realise how awful we were two years ago?

I am all for bloviation and exaggeration but the Demons of 2011 may be crap, but they are less crap than the Demons of 2009.

They are more disappointing that's for sure...

I'm not sure who on here has their "head in the sky," there's probably more with their "head in the oven."

Yes that was a back breaker for the Club wasnt it. Newton's resigning has been neither here nor there. A base level contract for player number 36 on our list who in the past two years has been rookied and only been used where we had a number of injuries to ruckman at the same time. Glad you sweat the really big stuff, reaper.

A fair summation that will be missed by those that should be considering it the most.

rpfc if I am reading your comment correctly it appears we are talking about degrees of "crapy".

I for one am more disappointed this year than I was in 2009.

This year we should have been a lot better than we turned out to be.

As bad as 2009 was we did not have a 186 point belting.

I also struggle to see where the improvement will come from next year.

The senior players that supposed will support the team while the kids develop are simply not there.

Next year looms as the same as 2011.

Bunch of kids, most of whom have not yet shown they are AFL "good" standard.

Led by a group of senior players who are either at the end of their careers or simply not good enough.

It looks like more of the same to me.

It seems to me we punted on a 100% youth drive

on the basis of the older players are good enough to support the team for a few years.

IMO that is the failure, they are not good enough!

I hope the new coach is JC because he will need to be.

Then why bother?

Honestly, OD. I read you. We all do.

WE ARE SHITE.

Now what are we going to do about it?

Isn't that the true measure of character?

I have said that we need to move on a senior coach with experience.

I have said that we need to bring in big bodies and experienced heads into the team.

I have said we need to overhaul the Footy Dept.

Now if that isn't enough to turn around the malaise, then...

Then you say "Frack" and try again!

You say you are sick of the false promises and failures.

I'm starting to get pretty tired of the hopelessness and boundless grief for the death of a club not dead.

We're Demons aren't we?

What do Deomns do when they get kicked around?

I guess that is up to us.

No. It seems that this is your 'Reality'.

Pessimism deflates confidence. If confidence is deflated, so is ability, and it eats away at effort.

The destabilising effect of losing Junior ate away at team harmony and security. Destabilising.

Glad to see we agree.

Now we have 6 months I guess to see what happens.

Earlier this year I noticed it was the second decade of the 21st. century

I thought it was time to stop think of what might be in 10 or 5 years time.

because I may not have too many of those left.

I would like to enjoy 2012 a lot more than this year.

So I want the 2012 season to come around very slowly.

That way i can enjoy "what might be in 2012" before reality sets in April.

Now that is not too much to ask is it?

Just help me understand how we get around the problem of poor senior players at the MFC!

I mentioned it.

Get better senior players.

Or you can wait for the kids to grow up.

I can do both.

You will too, even if you say you can't.

does not appear that I have much choice.

I intend to live for some time yet rpfc but sometimes you do not get a choice as the years advance.

just the new tack I am now taking.

Live every year as though it is my last,

do not look too far ahead you might miss all the great things that happen today.

IMO we should use our draft picks this year on experienced players.

Now I know that is easier said than done but that is the major problem as I see it.

We have enough kids.

the playing group will look like a kindergarten in 2012 unless we replace Green and Davey etc.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
