I posted that up the top, you have to understand some on this site want to rush the development of our young players. It was common sense for Sam have a good hit out and gain confidence at a lower level. It will be the same with Tapscott he will go back to Casey next week get another run and hopefully come round 4 or 5 both Sam and Luke have the form to force there way into the team.

I actually think they will give Tappy another go in the seniors next week. He showed enough and dean bailey's comments suggest theyre keen to get him in...

i believe morton had played 40 odd games in his first two years at the club...blease has played none in his first two years...now both players 'arguably' need big years to hold there spot.

I disagree - there are so many players that would be cut before Blease and Morton.

Yep, anyone who thinks Morton's spot on the list is in jeopardy, doesn't have a clue what they are talking about.

I'm more worried about him going to GWS than Scully.

If the Giants are smart, they'd be offering him a decent-sized contract.

Ssoosh- I think you have hit the nail on the head and this guy has so much upside. To me going forward,he is more or equal to Scully going forward.Gee, just shows how important Harrington's job is this year.

Quality guy is Cale, had my two little boys sitting behind him eating some lunch yesterday and just viewed Cale for a good half hour. Speaks well and really GAVE his time to everyone that came to him.

Re Sam Blease..Does anyone have a report on Casey at Pakenham Saturday?

Posted

I spoke to Sam Blease at the Family Day and Dean Bailey at training on Friday, Sam had a bit of tonsilitis the week before and put him back a bit, he came through unscathed at Casey, and is itching to have a run in the Seniors

The guy has just made his way back from a badly broken leg, he misses a couple of pre season games with a cork and some of you are calling for his head. Get a grip people! Maybe think a little bit before you post..

I agree, other clubs are recruiting players far older than Blease as mature rookies- reality check-please

Sam suffered a cork at training last week, Being rested for the Brisbane game.

Somehow everyone must have missed it....but Sam was named for Casey Yesterday and played a fine game against Box Hill.....

It was thought that he would gain more from a full run with Casey than a half or so against Brisbane yesterday....

I wish this was posted at the start of this thread to stop all the misundertsanding and rubbish that followed!!!

Yeah, it's a bit rich to say his career is in jeopardy ("big question mark over his future") hoopla...

Im not too worried, he was injured for year 1 so he's only had 1 season.

He was drafted very young as well, and has a slight build so Ive got no problem even if the club give him another 12 months at Casey.

Posted

He was bottom-age as an early pick in the same draft where Michael Hibberd was not even taken.

He is far from the finished article, yet Essendon are willing to start putting time into Hibberd starting now.

Blease should be afforded that and more.

He had about a half a season last year.

Edit: So I think his Main goal this year, should be to Try to play about 20, full games of footy, for this season... If he manages to get 2 - 3 AFL games in, he'll be lucky.

Unless Hibberd broke his leg the year after not being drafted I dont get your point. It is not like Blease is playing full games at Casey instead of for Melbourne in the rpeseason. He is being nursed in the best interests of ensuring when he is right to go in the start 21 he stays there.

Doesn't it mean that Blease should be given more time, like Hibberd presumably has?

Hibberd hasn't looked flash for the bombers, and is older than Blease, yet they still think they can tap his potential and are prepared to give him a spot on their list, presumably for at least the next 2 seasons (as is the normal minimum).

Blease is younger, has probably looked better (at least in my opinion), has more potential, has had injuries and yet some have suggested that if he doesn't perform this year, he will be facing the chop.

In short, Blease has a lot more time on his hands.

This thread has provided me the information I had been looking for. On the basis of this information, I'm happy to agree that Sam's career is alive and well. I just asked the question .... and am delighted with the positive answers. He is the sort of player we need.

From one absurd extreme to the other...

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
